Its fine to take pride and mass amounts of time in what you like to do, just don't expect that same dedication from anyone else. As video games become more "normal" or mainstream, regular game players won't have the time or care to get Relic 2 armor. And, guess what, they will ask "stupid" questions because they didn't have the time to look the shit up. Sorry, but normal people have jobs, kids, wives, girlfriends, family, friends, and guess what, other shit they need to do. So here it is, when "normal" people start gaming, they will quickly realize that you elitists are the new "dork" and ignore you or not pay any attention to you like they did in high school. Rember that? Not me, I was too busy capping out at level 30 and getting laid.

I don't aggree that you have to be good at something to like or want to do it. Sex is a great example for most of the people on this site I am sure.

Idk, personally I have a 9-5 that I put in 40 hours a week to, am in a serious relationship w/ a great girlfriend, and still go out w/ friends 1-3 nights a week. None of this keeps me from going onto here or other sites and looking something up in 5 minutes so that I'm prepared for what I plan to do that night.

Am I a nerd? Definitely. Am I an elitist? Most likely. Am I more dedicated to a video game than I should be? Probably. Does any of this keep me from sustaining a decent life, a healthy relationship, and a stable career? Not in the slightest. This stuff doesn't have to be mutually exclusive in any way.

Add: Olorin is in fact epic in bed.

Umm...that's his job Evi. >_>;;; A 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. job, which is 8 hours a day. Times 5 days a week, which is 40 hours. He's just saying that he works a normal job, along with the other things he mentioned.

I think...I'm an elitist, but I'm not quite sure. I mean, I can't stand it when I have to lead 11 people through a CoP mission, and I've never done it before. I mean, can't you at LEAST wiki the mission? Have an idea? I'm okay with leading, and sometimes I enjoy it...but when people don't know a single thing, and make no effort to help, it's just frustrating sometimes. Oh, and they always get mad at me if something goes wrong. -_-;

And when I see people with shit gear, I understand, if it's their first time leveling up that high, then it makes sense, so I don't mind, but when they have say...no rings, or like harvesting feet, or something stupid like that, I just don't consider them worth my time. It's not that tough to farm up at least a -little- or anything...but I dunno, I somewhat see where Evi is coming from.

Oh, and I have a good life, I go out with friends, I work a regular job, I go out on dates, etc, and still manage to get what I need, and always be prepared for a job that I'm working on in-game.(I have my fucking Opo-crown and my BRD is 31...is an example. >_>;; )

I think he was referring to Olo's 1337, actually. Either way, the issue is more of stupidity/laziness than dedication. I wouldn't hang out with an overly stupid and/or lazy person in real life if I didn't play an MMO, so it's not any different that I don't want them mucking up my XP parties or slowing down my Dynamis runs.

But you still come off as one, because the correlation rate of someone being stupid and/or lazy and them spouting off "It's my game, I'll play how I want!" when you point out their severely underleveled subjob or that INT rings maybe aren't that great for their WAR is extremely high.

Add: The game would in fact be more fun for me if more people knew more stuff. If all 35 people in my LS were as good and knowledgeable as our top 6, we'd own Ramuh to the point where S-E would be sending in negotiators to buy it back from us.

Ok, maybe not, but at least there wouldn't be wipes because someone was resting out in the middle of the puller's path during Dynamis.

Wow, you epically failed this topic. I mean missed the entire point completely. Not only that, but you pretty much insulted everyone who posted in this topic.

FYI, people who have full time jobs, kids, families, and all that 'normal' stuff can still be elitests. And people who play day in and day out, with no social lives aren't all elitests. The point isn't how much they play, it's how they treat other people. There's a difference between not having TEHUBERESTGODSUPERGEAR in the game, having decent equipment that helps your job and your party, and having just plain crap gear. Most players of this game...and infact most people on this site...will be fine with someone having decent gear that helps them do their job. Elitests will *demand* you have "only the best" and that anything else is gimped and a War using Int rings and lvl 10 armor at lvl 60 is a n00b, no way around it.

But again, your personal life has no bearing on how you treat people in game and you *can* have a 'normal' life and still obtain *the* best gear.

And no, bad sex is not enjoyable. It's called *bad* for a reason. If you're not good at it, get better, your partners will thank you.

Again, the whole point of this thread is to point out the difference between a newb(new player who listens to advice) and a noob(bad player who ignores everyone regardless of how good the advice is) and to create an antithesis term for the what is considered Elitests(high quality players that demand "only the best" regardless and are often offensive about it).

If a DD is lvl 70 and having acc problems because they're wearing Agi rings, and I suggest to them to get Acc rings, and they respond by saying "STFU it's my game", they're being a noob but I'm not being an elitests. However if a DD dings 40 and is still using Str rings and someone goes off on them for not having dual Snipers, that second person is being an Elitest while the first person isn't being anything.

Most of us, we're the type who will recommend good (or in some cases great) gear for your class, expect most people to understand their role and how to work in a pt, and be generally well prepared to hold up their end of things. That's not being elitest at all.

IMHO, this discussion is completely relevant to the topic, as it gives even more insight into the similarities, differences, and disposition of the three types (PWNED, sorry). I may not have enough experience with elitists to have a fine-tuned radar for it anyway. Worst I ever got so far was "Leave the PT and go farm until you can afford dispel you noob" or once a guy left because his HP bar actually went yellow! Well, at the time I didn't have Dispel, I was two months into the game and had about 1000 gill to my name. With my highest job being 32 RDM, it would literally take me weeks to farm 60K at my available play time rate. (Killing leeches, bees, and crawlers) That doesn't sound like fun to me... Fun>making elitists happy.

First off, there were four 'types' at the center of this discussion and you covered none of them. Second, you basically said anyone who cares enough to get the good endgame stuff isn't "normal" when that's flat out wrong. Then went on to complain about how "normal" people don't have time to look stuff up...yet they have time to play the game. Then went on to call all those non "normal" people 'dorks' and 'elitests' because "normal" people will get laid more. All while completely ignoring the fact that this topic is pointing out the differences between Newbs and Noobs and Elite and Elitest, which is obvious in your statment here:

Again, Newbs are new players who listen to advice and attempt to better themselves. Noobs are players, of *any* lvl, who ignore every kind of advice, no matter how good, and only care about themselves. One is good, the other is not.
