Wow. I can't believe you've necroed your own thread, and it was this one... It's too long for me to have any idea what your response is actually for without rereading the whole thing. @_@

I'm also frightfully elitist. I hate all mages, any melee that has an MP bar, and anyone who doesn't own at least 1 piece of storyline-win jewelry. Also, noobs, nooblets, n00bers, and n00b-goblins. Did I mention poor people?

Though a recent one was ppl inviting me to a pty as my drk, and ppl just can't function properly, yet half the pty is in a dynamis shell -.-; I rather not remember any other details.

No, unfortunately the Noob/Newb/Elitest discussion will always be the same. They will always be there in every MMO/BBS. They are even there in every day life.

Elitist are usually good if not the best players.

It is not a maybe. If they are not the best or very good, then you are not talking about an elitist.

I cannot disagree more with these statements. There are players who are elitist who are crappy players (and I know a LOT of these people), and good players who are not elitist at all. This is something I've personally dealt with a lot over the past two years since I'm somewhat of a crusader against elitists on my server. Anyways.. might as well stick to the topic at hand - here's my 'definitions', including a couple that haven't been mentioned:

Newb - Derived from newbie, a new or relatively inexperienced player. Usually they will ask for help consistently and admit they are new.

Noob - Describes any player, regardless of their experience, that constantly brags and acts like they know everything about the game; but by their other comments, the quality of their gameplay and their equipment they demonstrate themselves to know next-to-nothing.

Mentor - Not to be confused with the in-game mentor system, this described any player, regardless of experience, who goes out of their way constantly to help other players. They do their research, and like to do things by trial & error sometimes.

Asshat - There are two types, the "Asshole" and the "Top Hat" aka Elitist: Someone who constantly flames, harasses, insults, and creates drama for any reason; or any veteran player who insults other players because of their lack of certain types of equipment, use of certain types of equipment, style of play, choice of linkshell, etc. Typically one person will have both personality traits, which is why I usually combine them.

Veteran - Player who is generally pleasant, knows how to play their jobs reasonably well, has good or superb equipment for their jobs, and has an all-around good knowledge of the game. Willing to help others, though not necessarily all the time as they tend to be involved with many in-game activities on a regular basis. Can also be called "Elite", but they act more mature about it than others.

Callisto - A veritable bastion of ridiculous Refresh awesomeness. Always right, even when they are wrong. Knows pretty much everything, anything they don't know hasn't been invented yet. Also quite handsome.

Sorry lol, I'm trolling today. Work tightened up the filters so now I can pretty much only access this and a few other forums. I can't get to the sites where I get my sprites for GIFs or MogHouse's GP page, and I'm so incredibly bored.

I can access the Fraggle forums still so I'll probably be bugging them alot as well lol...

That can be easy to say, but other things need to be taken into consideration...

I can be a bit of an 'elitist' at times myself. When I do an event/mission/party/whatever with someone at level 75, I expect that they at least put some semblance of effort into it. Research the mission, don't wear gear that does absolutely nothing or actually debilitates you, know your spells. If you want to join the group and get the gear, be a contributor, not dead weight. This game has been around for a long time now, there's too much info out there and it's too easy to research to continue to be a total assclown at 75. I don't expect them to have crazy wtfbbq gear, but you can put together a well-working character for relatively cheap on any job.

I have no problem with someone wanting to play the game their way, they pay money too, but my personal mindset is that being good at something is fun, being bad at it is not, so why play a game if you're just going to suck at it?

I'm not saying I'm right, but that's my opinion. What does need to be noted is that the leaders/officers of most endgame ls' that are worth their salt share the same mindset as I do, and it's these 'elitists' who are the ones capable of planning, organizing, and leading successful events. If you don't believe me ask people how most of their pickup CoP of Divine Might groups go when any random noob is left to run it.

You can play however you want, but that doesn't mean that I have to refrain from considering you to be an assclown if you play or act like one.
