  • Manaburn PT's - Where?

So Im coming up to 50 now, a mere 3k from it - when can I start joining Manaburn PT's for this awesome XP I have been hearing about? I know that as RDM I wont be nuking, but surely they need a refresher?

Also, on a side note about Warp 2 - do you, or do you not, need to be in the same party as someone to Warp 2 them?

Manaburn parties typically start around level 50, when blms receive the spell, "Freeze". However, it's surprising to me that a rdm like yourself would like to join one. Typically, rdms try to stay away from manaburns, due to the constant need of refresh whoring. But.... hey, whatever sinks your ship.

And you need to be in the same party in order for someone to warp 2 you. Otherwise, I would be warping random people I hate in the Dunes. :p

Its the XP/hr thats appealing to me, not refresh whoring. Tho its pretty much what i do in a normal XP party anyway

        Re: Manaburn PT's - Where?

Mmmm...no. RDM is much, much busier in manaburn than in a typical XP party.

        You're casting:

        6 x Refresh
        Sleep and or Bind.
If using Bard subjob, you're casting Mage's Ballad.
        Stoneskin for yourself
        Blink for yourself
...oh, and you're the main puller too, so probably pulling with Slow or Paralyze.

I strongly recommend not trying this until at least level 51 when you get access to elemental staves. Standing around getting slapped by IT+ enemies waiting for BLMs to finish their nukes when your Sleep or Bind has failed to land (remember - IT+ enemy!) is not the most amusing thing in the world to have happen to you.

It's pretty stressful, and you have to have really good timing to stay on top of a 6 Refresh cycle while being the puller as well.

Add gravity to the list. And main healing.

Then theres the not-so-rare occasion that some of the blms aren't paying attention to the time / afk and you casting something in a heated frenzy of blms getting hate.

You use gravity in RDM + 5xBLM manaburn, Jei? I can't ever get it to work - it almost always breaks the XP chain unless its early in the chain because the monster takes too long to bring back to camp. I use it sometimes when the monster is reasonably close and I'm feeling confident about the chain timer, but more often than not I don't bother and just try Bind or Sleep once it's in casting range while relying on Blink and Stoneskin to protect me.

You honestly use Gravity when trying for XP chain #5+? I just use a fast casting spell like Slow and then Bind it out of melee range once I'm back at camp. That extra few seconds of travel time can mean the difference between holding or breaking an XP chain, as I've found through experience. The earlier the BLMs can start casting on it, the higher the chances of holding a chain alive.

Yes. Worms are fair game for manaburn parties.

The way I used it a long time ago was Gravity one mob and then run and Silence/Slow another (depending on the type), then I would Sleep the Grav'd one by camp when it got there, while the rest of the party took care of the first one.

Of course I wouldn't pull the second one if Gravity was resisted, which happened more often that I'd have wanted to, but still, it was great for squeezing another mob in at the end of a chain.

I was only able to do that in Monastic Cavern though.

                          {Um...} maybe not then.

I struggle with Refresh + Haste now, so maybe its best if I stick to normal XP parties and save manaburn for my own BLM!!!

On a second note, a BLM in our party last night chucked freeze in a few times - 900dmg with Ice Staff equipped, on Ants in Quicksands. I was like, wow!!

Thing is, how would you MB one of those? The BLM would have to call the SC before the melees did as it takes so damn long to cast!

MBing Freeze is the only time blm should be announcing what spells they are using

                              Mine went:

                              /p Freeze in 3 seconds
                              /wait 3
/p Casting Freeze - skillchain stand by!
                              /ma "Freeze" <t>
                              /wait 4
                              /p Skillchain go go go

And wait for the boom. However, the only time I used Freeze as a MB was when we were doing Ouryu in the CoP mission. If melee are on the ball, Skillchain starts as soon as you say, and by the time it lands, you should be a second or so out from Freeze landing.
