  • Questions/Answers/Bugs you'd want SE to answer/fix/tweak/etc

I made a post at KI. Anyway, I am posting here to let more people now and maybe we can suggest all the same thing to possibly get SE's attention.

For those of you who are lazy, I'll post what I posted on KI.

Here are my posts on KI(This is my post only, there are other people with other suggestions on the thread I linked)(Also suggestions are numbered, if you want, you can just skip to the numbered parts to just read each suggestion. There is a big gap between suggestion 7 and 8.):
"Questions and Answers you'd want SE to answer in an interview or so.

    My questions would be:

    1. About NMs that supposedly drop nothing(Black Triple Stars for one example).

    2. Ask SE to add an option to remove the mouse-walk feature(When you hold left click it makes you character move) as it can be accidentally turned on and 'jam' on you. I'm sure many mouse users had this problem one time or another, I've had it many times when playing RDM and it interrupted my casting(Making macros for every spell is too many macros).

No love for mouse users .

    3. If losing TP when a monster is out of range while you attempt to WS is a feature or a bug, and if it is a feature ask why? If it is a bug, why haven't they fixed it?

    4. Tell them to fix the bug where you're unable to move, attack, or do anything when you're engaging a mob while someone casts something on you or you're affected by some effect while engaging.
-I don't remember this being present in 2003-2004, so I assume it's a bug(or a hidden feature in one of the updates).

    5. Ask why exactly are things like "Bomb Core" and "Fenrir's Stone" and so on, throwable? They could make it like a fishing rod, you can't throw that.

    6. Battle Slopes, why haven't they been added to the game.

    7. Will they ever, at one point, reveal information about everything in FFXI, like how does Treasure Hunter work or how does <x> work? How does moon, direction faced, etc affect <x> things?

    Alphonze :
these are all great suggestions/ideas, but has anyone thought of going here?

It's not likely they'll listen to just one person posting suggestions, but if enough people mention the same thing then it's possible they may come up with a way to implement it, or something similar at least.

I really like the lock idea btw, I accidentally threw my Bibiki seashell during a suicidally boring exp party, I was so thrilled.
Is it the same as the playonline > services > feedback and support > suggestion/idea thing? Seems like it.

Anyway, I tried suggesting that, even the "lock" thing with the items too.
. I made a post here on these forums, with an idea like that, but not many people noticed it. Click here for the earlier thread I created. Though, it seems that post is buggy, as there is a big gap between the lines.

I tried suggesting it in both comments and suggestions, and bug reports. I've suggested it occasionally again over and over sometime, but I first started suggesting stuff to them a year ago.

I even called a GM once on the mouse-walk issue, they said it was a good idea, and they said to suggest it through playonline viewer.

This is the biggest thing that annoys me in FFXI, the fact that the "minor" issues haven't been resolved.
Though they fixed the pet problem by allowing you to ignore pets but that took years for them to resolve that issue, and that was just one.

I believe Blizzard is much better at listening and fixing minor things with WoW, least they get fixed at all.

These problems/annoyances in FFXI have existed too long.

Another thing that annoys me, is some interviewers and players who ask questions when they have the chance. In all the interviews, they usually never ask questions about problems that still exist in FFXI, and just ask the usual "Does CHR affect hate" at least five times, with all five times SE says "No". The usual "What new features will you be adding to FFXI", when we'll definitely know the answer to that soon enough.

Questions that either been answered over and over by them before, or questions that they're are going to get answered(See last question I put in quotes, above).

No one takes advantage of certain situations by asking SE useful things that benefit everyone.

For example, ask SE "Why does <x> problem/bug/glitch/exploit/annoyance still exist after 5 years of FFXI? Why haven't you fixed it, it seems like a minor problem that can be addressed easily. " If they can't fix it, obviously ask why can't they fix it.

I have more suggestion/ideas to add to my list(Most are from the thread that I linked to earlier in this post):

    8. Allow option of warp 2, maybe teleports too shortmenu that asks "Yes" "No", to teleport/warp. Add a 5 second timer(or some other second) for player to answer, if timer goes to 0, player automaticly warps/teleports.

Also Player can disable this short menu from appearing and just warp/teleport (incase you're about to die, and somebody warps/teleports you to save you and you can't click yes fast enough).

Why: If someone abuses Warp II, or teleporting in your party. I'm sure many of you have had problems like this before, or heard of it at least.

    9. Things that should have "cancel" option feature to certain quests.
    Example:
    - Brygid's JSE quest(Not sure if it was fixed, but remember that it was an issue)
    - AF coffers
    - Other quests related to these types of problems

Why: They did add a cancel feature to the escort quests, but they haven't to other quests such as Brygid's, if you ask for a certain JSE, you have to get it before you try getting another.

    10. Things that should allow you to "switch" back items for another (such as 8-4 CoP, DM, etc).

You Should be able to switch items by trading it to npc, then you can do the mission all over again. Once you're finished, you'll be able to pick a different item.

Max of able to switch/redo quest/mission for a different item of one week/month RL(to prevent abuse).

Why: Main reason would be if a player picked an item, like say a Tamas ring, then wanted to play a DD job, or so. or regretting certain picks.

    11. Add fishing/field/craft gear to storage NPC list.

    12. Why does certain AoEs like self-destruct and dream flower hit players outside of party/alliances. It's ironic that they want to stop MPK, but still have AoEs that hit players outside of a party/alliance that exist.

I say we should all band together and demand SE to address these problems/issues/features/annoyances/etc that will help the entire FFXI community. Instead of stuff that will only help just one type of people/job like "OMG, increase the level cap to BST jugs" or "Nerf BLU in ballista" or other balancing stuff.

Stuff that helps everyone needs to be addressed before stuff that just helps just one job or one class.(Though, I bet SE can do both things at once... Balance jobs at the same time fix glitches/annoyances)

Maybe we should do something to get SE's attention, I don't know how though.

    Click

An issue wherein the game would freeze while typing during an area change.
Clap, I was going to add that to the list but forgot. Anyway, when you typed while zoning(just before the loading screen appeared) FFXI would crash. This has been a long-time bug but SE finally fixed it.

Another thing I like to ask is how SE finds out bugs and glitches? Do they test for bugs sometimes on the atomos server, or do they actually read the bugs/feedback we all can send, or both?

SE seems to make barely any effort to tweak/fix/feature various things that are "minor", but they sure add up and they sure seem to be easily fixable.

    I have a few suggestions for FFXI/SE(again):

    13. Allow weapon skilling up to be based on delay of the weapon. In other words, Two-handed weapons(with higher delay) should be able to skill up just as fast as a 150 delay dagger. It's rather unfair for certain jobs who need to skill up two two-handed weapons(Mainly just DRK who use two two-handed weapons) as they party and as they join skill up parties.

    14. Allow players to be able to view any and all cutscenes from just one NPC in some city or so. Sometimes players(me included) may want to view certain cutscenes, but don't want to walk all the way to The Throne Room (for example) to view them.

    15. Allow 800x600 res for PS2 users(at least, and if possible). I don't know if you PS2 users have seen 800x600 res or higher on a PC before, but basically You can see much better. It's like the difference of someone who has 20/40 vision(Near sighted) and the same person using glasses to obtain 20/20 vision(allows them to see stuff far away).

The chatbox takes up quite a bit of space in 640x480 resolution, and you can't see so much around your character with that resolution.

    16. Ask SE to release optional graphic/texture/sprite/lightning/etc upgrades to PC users and xbox360 users. I'm not sure much about this, if they have to redo models/etc, but if they just do **minor things just to improve graphics, that'll be nice. Though it is not needed, gameplay/bug fixes come first before graphics, FFXI graphics look good to me except for a few things.

**What Ilean said about the distance and etc.

    17. This is going to be a long post(part). This is a suggestion about improvement to ballista to encourage players to play ballista.

    Everything will be in quote.

Speaking of increased participates in ballista, one idea I thought of was to increase the point limit to 50,000(?) or so. You can purchase key items and equipment for ballista only using the key items.

    Example of rewards:

Rewards that only affect ballista matches:
    Key items:

Ballista bag, costs 5,000 points - Increases your temp. item inventory by +5, only in offical matches, only if the MC allows "extra ballista key items" option.

Quarrying gloves, costs 10,000 points - Decreases your chance of finding nothing using /quarry

Ballista bag +1, costs 25,000 points and must have Ballista bag key item - Further increase your temp. item inventory by +5, making it a total of +10.

Points band, costs 40,000 points - Doubles the amount of ballista points gained, but does not apply to rankings*

*So if you get 200 points, with the Points band you get 400, but in rankings it says you've received only 200 points.

**DOES NOT APPLY TO OTHER BONUSES, I've listed other methods of getting extra ballista points further down this post, this key item does not double the bonuses, it only applies to your base earnings.

Experience band, costs 50,000 points - Doubles the amount of experience you gain from participating in ballista.

    Equipment:
Note: These can only be equipped during ballista.

Ballista boots, costs 2,500 points - DEF: 10~30(level 30 cap gives 10 defense, 40 cap gives 15, 50 cap gives 20, etc) "Decreases duration of Gravity and Bind"

Ballista ring, costs 5,000 points - Increases Resistance to All Status Ailments

    "Outside items"
    Items:

Miratete's Memoirs, costs 5,000 points - Increases experience by 500-1500 when used.

    Key items:

K.O. Reducer, costs 50,000 points - Decreases experience lost from K.O.(or death) by 10%, permanent key item you always have.

    Extra Rewards:

Bonus 100 ballista points when being in places #4-10 in rankings.

Bonus 200 ballista points for 3rd place in rankings.

Bonus 300 ballista points for being 2nd place in rankings.

Bonus 500 ballista points for being 1st place in rankings.

Notes: All bonuses do not apply to rankings.

Ballista Coupon, for being 1st in rankings of your job - 500 points worth of ballista points that can be exchanged or used to reduce the price of any *TEMP. CONSUMABLE ballista items.

*Items such as potions, revitalizers, etc. When used on something that costs more than 500 points, for example, if the item costs 1,000 points, using the coupon will reduce the price to 500 ballista points.

Bonus 300 ballista points for being top Petra scorer.

    Extra earnings:

-All players will receive an extra 100 ballista points (does not apply to rankings) for every 4 extra players entered in ballista; applies AFTER there are 6 total players, so at 10 TOTAL players everyone receives an extra 100 points.

Max of an extra 3,450 ballista points, if there are ***144 players entered in an offical ballista match.

-All players will receive an extra 50 experience points for every 4 extra players entered in ballista; applies AFTER there are 6 total players, so at 10 TOTAL players, everyone will receive an extra 50 points.

Max of an extra 1,725 experience points, if there are ***144 players entered in an offical ballista match.

***I made this post over half a year ago, I don't know where I got those numbers from, but I'll try to figure out. For now, just ignore that.

*Encourages larger ballista matches. If there is some linkshell event with two linkshells, that all members participate, thats a lot of extra points.

My comments: Ok this is an example, and the points aren't exactly "balanced"; I mean, 25,000 points for an extra 5 temp inventory isn't exactly the right price for that key item.

It'll definitely make me play ballista more because I would like to play for fun but also to accomplish other stuff.

If someone is playing ballista, even just for skill ups/rewards/etc, they'll probably do their best. Might as well have fun at the same time (and get better rewards for better players).
I know there are a few more minor suggestions/bug fixes/etc that I forgot right now, so I'll be adding some more as I remember.

Ok, there are other good ones at the KI thread, but here are just my post/suggestions.

    Re: Questions/Answers/Bugs you'd want SE to answer/fix/tweak/etc

We have an entire forum dedicated for this purpose here at FFXIOnline.

If you really want to kick these topics around, post them separately in that forum if they haven't already been brought up.

Most of these have been brought up separately in some fashion in that forum icemage mentioned.

Number 12 um, your kidding right? Those Aoes dont hit players unless they are on the mobs hate list.

14: Id rather walk to the corners of vanadiel for a cutscene than talk to one npc and have to search thru a million pages of cutscene names in no hope of ever finding the one I want to watch.

3: So you dont get hit by throat stab.

The real problem here is why havnt they fixed those stupid white dots when people are dcing yet?!

Oh and why do Cid and that ZM kid still have holes in their arses where some pixels should be?

Not possible I'm afraid. The PS2 (like other previous gen consoles) has a maximum resolution of 640x480. They could reduce the size of the chat box and menus but the text could be quite hard to read if that happened. Several games lately (Lost Planet and Dead Rising) have been critisised for using small text that could be too hard to read.

Not quite.. The "Graphics Synthesizer" on the PS2, clocked at 147 MHz, is capable of variable video output resolutions from 256x224 to 1280x1024 pixels. See wikipedia, or the PS2 development slides that came along with the linux development kit.

As for the questions I'd like to see SE answer, there are a few threads in the "Ask SquareEnix Questions" that really pique my interest, specifically:

              12. Yes they do, check again. I find it hard to believe that you apparently played since NA launch and do not know that those AoEs affect players outside of parties.

              14. They can add submenus of things. Like talk to the NPC > Pick which quest type in wah region(Like sandoria, Jeuno, etc), same with missions and etc.

              3. Yeah, I forgot that it affects mobs too.

Whitedots aren't that annoying. Infact, they help you better with seeing who is disconnecting, sometimes it may be hard when they have a red linkshell when they DC with a red icon.

They used to, but they haven't for some time. Now instead of being slept by other parties in the Jungles, you just have people camped on top of everyone else, so it's lag city. Not much of an improvement, to be honest.
