  • Re: About Elitists

Thanks for that completely unnecessary explanation, BBQ. That wasn't at all what I was talking about.

What I hate is when people use lol as punctuation. I automatically hate anyone who does it. "lol, i just got fired, lol" "lol, I am so tired, lol", etc. Those people can die in a fire.

lol<job> however, always makes me laugh.

By BBQ's definition I'm a lolBRD and lolRDM too. It's not that I don't enjoy playing both jobs and playing them well (and anyone who thinks playing RDM at 75 is a walk in the park can, in Murphie's words, "die in a fire"). I just don't spend as much energy or resources on either job as I do on WHM.

I use both support jobs to feed merits to WHM, which is my primary and preferred job. Sadly, for some reason people want me to bring my RDM job to merit parties instead of my WHM. I can't imagine why that might be...

I didn't know WHM was your "main" these days, Icemage. Interesting, and admirable. There are far too few people who stand by their WHM jobs these days.

I wasn't aware you were dictating the terms of the discussion, my apologies, Mr. Post Count +1. I'll withdraw my two cents... not.

An lolBRD has only one instrument - a San'dorian Horn, of course,"for the CHR" - to his name. An lolBRD will always come /NIN because the guys on Alla forums said it was "superior" even though they said it in regards to TP burn and not Qufim. An lolBRD will not maintain four buffs at a time because he thinks pulling is what the job entails. The lolBRD knows what a Joyeuse does, but not Elegy.

An lolRDM is a refresh monkey by definition. Forget RDM being the master of enfeebling or a versitile job, it just boils down to Refresh for the lolRDM. Dispel? Haste? Main Healer? A party craves not these things, just Refresh. The lolRDM brings a sword to EXP and not staves. The lolRDM worships Avesta and signed up to be like Avesta, yet... never really solos anything, he just takes pride in the notion he might be able to (probably not).

And to be really lol at both jobs, you have to make excuses about inventory to justify not getting the essentials. Staves? Rings? Wands? Instruments? Sheer clutter. The lols will not spend money on this just because they know you'll invite them just for Refresh and Dispel. And you will curse their existance for every moment they are in your PT.

If your RDM ar BRD reflect those descriptions, then you are indeed a lolRDM or lolBRD and just funneling merits into WHM. If your style of play does not resemble those descriptions, you respect these jobs, play them appropriately and just play them to enhance your WHM's ability to do its job better.

And RDM is not an easy job, not by a long shot. Easy on expense maybe, but not if you really want to push it to max potential there is a lot of expense and subjob work. Its up to the player in how they wish to persue that, you don't have to do all of that to be a great RDM.

BRD is not an easy job either, especially not at high level. It is also light on expense... worst it really ever gets is the Shi'ar Manteele and relic horn.

What isn't hard about either job is to gear them adequately and know the basics of what needs to be done. After that, its pretty much like juggling flaming knives with scorpions crawling all over your body, especially so when the PLD won't line up for Ballad or the DRK cries for priority on the Refresh cycle...or when the RNG asks for Haste.

The thread is about elitists. I'm supposedly an elitist, so by all rights, I'm always on-topic in this thread

WHM has always been my main job. I started playing in NA beta as WHM and got to level 50. Started in retail as WHM, hit 75 on WHM, and didn't really work on any other jobs until nearly a year later when I decided to level Bard to 75. I eventually decided that having no jobs with solo power at all wasn't good so I levelled RDM and it's finally 75. Next up on my target list is getting BLU to 75, but I find I have much less time to play of late, and much more support jobs to level before I can work on BLU in earnest.

                Re: Omgwtfbbqkitten
I still have all the necessities for RDM and BRD (staves, instruments, vermillion cloak, enfeebling torque and all those fun things). I just don't spend much additional energy on the BRD or RDM. I've invested in only one Bard merit - Foe Sirvente, and my 7 levels of Enfeebling Magic merits and 4 levels of HP+ merits were really for my WHM. It just so happens that those things also happen to help me when playing RDM too.

I personally like to mock the loljob. I'm leveling loldrg and always put loldrg in my search comment. I also put it in my TP macro. I actually had a SAM (whose main was apparently DRG) PTing with me that got really upset about my TP macro. Obviously I don't think the job is that 'lol' if I'm leveling it.

As for lolIcemage, I generally have a problem with people that have multiple 75s these days. I don't think Icemage falls into this category and I respect him for that, but there are far too many people who have a ton of jobs at 75, and they are all gimped beyond belief. If you don't have the means to adequately level several jobs, just don't level them. Don't sell your BLMs Weskit to buy something for your RDM or sell your Noble's Tunic to buy something for your BST.

If you're in an endgame shell and tell them you can show up at events as any of these jobs, don't have them horribly under equipped (75 BLM with full AF and MP gear... need I say more). Also, full relic isn't that good for anyone, just like full AF isn't that good for anyone. And if you're a WHM FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, do not sell your Noble's because you got a Cleric's Briault. WHM in a previous LS wore full Relic on WHM (as well as her other 7 75 jobs) to every event, except when she decided to wear her Lilac Corsage instead of her Cleric's Cap while being main healer on things like JoL... Please just kill me.

Yeah I can't agree more. Yet, there are those that are stuck on the notion that having so many job at 75 magically makes them an incredibly skilled player. I think it just makes you unfocused. When you're at high level, that's when FFXI goes from being a freeform and flexible in jobs to forcing a little job specialization.

All the Rare/Ex gear to collect forces you to specialize, the merit system asks you how you'd like to specialize your character and even in crafting you're asked to specialize. You can level every job to 70 to get Maat's Cap and collect all the AFv1s, but you can't get all the endgame gear. If you're going to take another job to 75, you have to consider overlapping.

I looked at all my gear goals for COR and RNG recently. What I've liked about COR and RNG is that I had a lot of overlapping in equipment. BST is a job I plan to restart because its probably one of my favorites and when I looked over my COR and RNG's gear goals, there was BST listed as a job that could use it.

There are those that specialize in being mage jobs, others in melee or tanking. If you're going to cross over into another class-type, you have to realize you're either going to (1) halfass it due to inventory space or (2) potentially cut out some other future jobs to 75 or sacrifice an old one. If you overlap and choose to specialize, that's not so much of a problem. There is some crossover potential between class types, but its once you consider that 4th job that might not overlap it has to get a little tricky or even impractical.

If you opt for #1 and don't gear adequately, you're already headed down the lol path.

As for lolDRGs and lolPUPs, you are exempt from this logic. It is your fate to be lol for another reason. You exist for SE to frustrate and overlook you. They know they could improve these jobs but... nah.

I think I'm a lolist. Because, honest to Altana, I am on the verge of quitting this game. And not because it's "too hard" or because I'm too busy with real life, but because I am so sick of hearing AOL chatspeak. I mean it. If I hear "hay u want 2 pt?" one more time...

Why does everyone in this game type like they only have one finger? Why is 'lol' used to replace punctuation? Why do so many players have an aversion to capital letters and consonants?!

I have been playing for around three months, and in that time, I have not yet met one person who didn't speak like a retard. It's really driving me nuts.
