  • New Years Event Guide

    Event NPCs

    Windurst Port - Pyru-Copyru - (B-4)
    San d'Oria North - Jeanparmand - (D-8)
    Bastok Markets - Bunta - (D-10)

They will tell you that you can get a New Years Gift from the creatures in the wild, you can get it by trading anything with the Wood Bugard. I recommend taking an item that stacks to 99, like the recently aquired fireworks, or cookies.

Elemental Bugards can be found in all wild regions of Vana'diel, its the Wood Bugard you're looking for...

Put /follow onto the creature and start trading items to the Wood Bugard when it will randomly give you buffs, these can include:

    Protect
    Shell
    Shock Spikes
    Enthunder

After many trades, you will recieve a New Year Gift, take this to the start NPC to recieve your reward, the Battledore.

Now buy yourself the following items:

    2 x Black Ink
    1 x Bast Parchment

Equip the Battledore and take the airship from Jeuno to Windurst. On the upper deck, you will see an event NPC named Dilauriome. Trade him the items and you will recieve a furniture item. The furniture item gives Moghancement: Money and has an elemental strength of 3.

    Still to be worked out:

    HQ weapon?
    Other furniture items?
Who is this Tommy that Dilauriome talks about?

Is there supposed to be something special about the Wood Bugard?

I checked a Chinese Calendar site and they said it's "Fire Pig" this year. Shouldn't we be trading to the Fire Bugard...?

I tried it again in a different area and asked for the pocket again and just got fireworks, so if anyone could find out what you find out with the other options about his grandpa it would be appreciated.

I think it would be cool if just in the case of this event, to make it special by making them stick..... forever!

On the other hand.....maybe that wouldn't be a a good idea. I'm not so sure though.

And WHAT reward would that be? Anyone!?

            1 x Bast Parchment

Equip the Battledore and take the airship from Jeuno to Windurst.
            2 questions.

1 - What on earth is a Battledore? Is it a weapon, or a piece of armour?

2 - "Taking the airship from Jeuno to Windurst"

Originally, you can only ride the airship to all main city ports if you have completed one of the missions. (is it mission 5? I cannot remember) What happens if you have not yet completed missions this far? Can you still ride the airship to Windy for the sake of this event?

I asked to speak to Grandpa:

"Eh? That's all you want? Well Okay. <says alot of useless mumbling>
Grandpa told me to tell you this... The whispering spirit of Garuda whisks about you. Just as the avatar of wind roams free across the never-ending skies of vanadiel, so too does your lucid heart yearn to break free of the chains that bind it to conformity.
In other words, he's saying that you were born to be an adventurer, and that your free sprit would make you a mighty good thief if there is sucha thing as a good thief.
Oh and he also says that you'd be a lot more popular if you'd stop trying to impress everyone and just be yourself. Go figure! <bit more mumbling>
Grandpa says that all journeys begin with faith in oneself. Take a good look at what lurks inside before stepping out...
Whatever that means. I don't understand half the stuff he says but i like him because he gives me candy."

So do you have to "Steal" from the Brugards? In a wind elemental place?? I just have no idea...

                It's a level one club.

Probably not, sometimes you have to of achieved certain skills or completed missions to get ALL items in an event. In the SummerBreeze Festival(or something similaar) to get the goldfish bowl you had to have certain guild skills skilled up so you could synth it yourself.

                  Re: New Years Event Guide

The furniture item is earth element. ; ; My house is set up for overwhelming wind and I don't feel like going to the great effort of changing it, but a moghancement that "Increases the amount of Gil received" sounds pretty nice. Probably doesn't add too much and only to beastman mobs and NMs, but the way pretty much everyone I know has been strapped for cash with the changing economy, every little bit helps right?

The actual art for the furnishing looks pretty nice. It's a sumi-e painting of one of the towers in Sarutabaruta. (http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Copy_of_%22Hoary_Spire%22) I bet taking the airship to other nations gets you art related to those areas. I'm gonna go ahead and get these just because they'd look nice in my mog house.

So unless we have done the Rank 5 Mission and get access to the Airship to the cities, we are SOL? That blows.

                    Thanks for the sig, Selphiie!!

Please excuse me for asking, but what does SOL mean?

Anyway, yes.... unfortunately it DOES seem like very bad luck if you haven't completed up to, and past mission 5! (I only have Rank 3, and still have yet 2 more missions to get through for the sake of this event)

I was wondering if it would be possible to ride from Jeuno to Windy by chocobo instead, but I just had to read back through the first post (on the details pf this event) to read that riding the airship is essential to this event, since you have to trade the Ink and Parchment to an NPC onboard the airship to receive a very cool furniture item which would give you gil. This is something I really would have liked too, but ahh well..... *sigh!

I guess I just WON'T be doing this DARN event!

Edit : From the link in ~Taskmage's~ post, it seems that the piece of art you receive (that which gives you gil) is rare ex.
I guess there'll be no way of being able to buy it from an AH in future, since there are some items from special events which tend to end up for sale on there sometimes. *DEEP SIGH!*

                          Re: New Years Event Guide

Historically, the items from holiday events are always available at the same event next year, so if you don't get it this time there's always 2008.

You really ought to get rank 5 for your own benefit and convenience though. 5-1 is 50 cap and can be a pain to get members for, but it shouldn't be hard to get people to help you fight the shadow lord. The event doesn't end for another couple weeks, so there's still time for you to knock out those missions if you really want the furnishing.

There must be more to this event, why would it just focus around windy?

She doesn't even need that 5-1 and the Shadow Lord fight are to get rank 6 and be able to do dynamis. 4-1 is a run in Def<tab> Tower and kill a NM and find the Ambassador, 4-2 is skippable by trading in crystals, and 4-3 is a long drawn out, time sink, but still relativly easy. 4-1 can be duoed by a 35whm and 35nin, and is nothing to a 50+ character. 4-3 is soloable with enough silent oils, prisim powders and luck, again trivial to a 75, and not too bad on a well balanced pt where people are not all counting on a mage to sneak/invis them.

I help out newer people from my social LS all the time with rank 4/5 missions, and I've got it down to about a 3 hour adventure from start to finish. Also gives me a chance to show off my leet Hexa-strike! Gogo whm/nin!!!

But as for requiring rank 5 for an event item, it isn't that bad. Why shouldn't people that have accomplished something in the game get a little exrta something from the events? If every level 1 new player had the item it wouldn't be so special. I always thought of the events as a way to keep vetern players from going insane from the same thing day in and day out. I've recently found the Dynamis is really only "fun" the first time you go, and the first time you get an item, other than that its another gil sink and competition to get what you want for what you put in. Events are just there to distract all the end-game players from yelling at SE.
