I kindly ask you, Icemage, to either stop posting off-topic or leave this thread, or I will be forced to report you again to a moderator. Mog do not talk off topic either(I learned first hand taking part in an off-topic conversation is against the rules, even if you didn't start it). This thread is about creating a low-level guide for new players. Could you please stroke your ego, as you put it, somewhere else? I'd like this thread to only progress and not have any set backs.

Discussion of your involvement in a guide (especially when eliciting the assistance of the community at large) falls under "on-topic". The onstensible point of this thread is to provide accurate information to the public, that would require the help of people that actually know what they're talking about - and your involvement hurts that cause.

Report away if it floats your boat. I stand by my statements - they are factually true and accurate.

Hmm, it seems this thread is being taken over by someone who lacks the respect for the rules, but also isn't being punished. If there is anyone in authority reading this, should I make a new thread? I know firsthand of people like this can get.

Well, generally, ignoring trolls makes them go away. I'd suggest we start discussing in detail which sections of your guide need to be polished up, finished, etc. and act like he isn't there.

Re: Completing the Complete FFXI Guide

That is a fine suggestion. Lets hope that he doesn't continue to stroke his ego and the moderators of this forum "reward" him correctly for his lack of respect and trolling. Maybe it has something to do with me not liking his idea on that ask-SE forum. I'm disappointed in you Icemage; let's hope that this guide will prevent players from becoming like this.

I'd like to mention something... apparently SE has stopped giving out manuals with their newest Vana'diel Collection? I was helping someone who told me that it didn't come with his, not even a list of commands.

I imagine the guide making a lot of uses of Spoiler blocks like this. This way, players can be able to scroll down to the page they want, without having to deal with tons of pictures and text.

Just basically typing up thoughts in my mind without any foresight, here is a small layout. I'm not going to go into details how each section would be designed, but I imagine it would be the best possible for players to be able to absorb everything. The names are very likely to be changed as well.

-1. Pre-game: The current guide has info to talk to players before they join. Much of this will be edited(I honestly wrote most of it at 3am). It serves almost as an advertisement and decision decider for someone who wants

                    0. Basic Guide: This is a very simplified version of the guide and is meant to help players with basic commands and everything they need to know until level 8 or 10. No more than 2 or 3 pages writing.

                    1. Menus and Commands: Besides the obvious, this will also cover how to make and run parties, use the auction house, and uses of the mog house. It will also include tips on all of the subjects, that some high levels might not even be aware of. One thing that will be excluded beyond the basics will be combat combats, which would be covered by...

                    2. Combat: This will cover stats(ranging from both STR to Accuracy to Enmity) and all things combat, especially if the player is likely to encounter it before level 20. A very clear explanation of Skill Chains will also be presented. I did a really good one awhile back, I'll probably post that one, so I got this covered. Important to notice that this is also where the strengths and weaknesses of race will be mentioned

                    3. The World: Basic and incredibly unspoilerific explanation of storyline pre-game. . Explanations of quests, missions, Conquest, Besieged(not so much the actual fighting, but the system), BCNMs, ENMs, and possibly Garrison and Eco-Warrior. Very likely to be included is Chocobo Breeding and the Fellowship system. Will easily be the biggest section of the guide. Everything after this becomes rather "optional'.

                    4. The first 10 levels: Walkthrough... includes rank 1, many quests, and leveling suggestions. I'm leaving this and the following section descriptions most vague. Bait and Switch will be mentioned as preparation for later CoP missions.

                    5. 11-20: Ditto, important to mention that this guide will be very unbias on where people choose to level and will list at least a couple alternatives. Rank 2 and 3 likely mentioned. Details on running an Eco-Warrior might work. Finally, tips of on getting to Jeuno and Chocobo License.

                    6. 21-30: Ditto, perhaps details on Expeditionary Force missions.

                    7. 31-40: Ditto and final section of this kind. Mentions CoP and rank 4. I'm running out of things to mention here.

                    8. 40+: Vague mentioning of things to come: Genkei, Assault, Besieged, and rank 5+. More CoP and RoZ and ToAU mentioned also.

                    9. Further Reading: Mention of Vana'diel Tribune, FFXIclopedia, and somepage. KI will probably be linked for its event guides. I'm tired of typing now. It would be nice to be able to link the Windower in there, but probably not going to happen.

                    10. Credits

Would of been nice to hit 11 chapters for game with the word 11 in it's name. Someone think of something.

I won't lie, this guide has another motive. I would like it if players were pushed to do more "side" content. Garrison, EFs, Assault at level 50, and quests. Of course, players can take whatever they want from the guide, as long as they learn whats important.

Re: Completing the Complete FFXI Guide

Here's an excellent idea for "Chapter 11": Seasonal Events. Starlight Celebration, Harvest Festival, Valentione's Day, Adventurer Appreciation, et al. That would make a great 'optional' section that also involves the players in a small part of the game world's story in some way.

I'm a major fan of the 'extracurricular' activities there are to be had in this game. I've had a lot of fun participating in Garrisons, EFs, and Ecco Wars in the past, and it's a shame that not too many people participate in them anymore. Player designed and run events are also worth mentioning, such as the Laugh Mania that's mentioned on the POL site, or other such events, such as Kujata's OP swap a few years back, where the players of the 3 nations 'traded' Gustaburg, Ronfaure, and Sarutabaruta to each of the nations so everyone had a chance to get those rare OP warps.

Every time I see someone post about there not being enough low-level content in the game, I wonder if they didn't just buy thier high-level account, becuse there's *more* than plenty around to do, it's just that people are too set in the "must-grind-to-75-so-I-can-lot-on-XXXabj-in-sky" or w/e other endgame routine they're set on. It's a patheticly sad turn of events, honestly.

Re: Completing the Complete FFXI Guide

                        I wouldn't mind helping.

In particular I can cover the party aspect easily, how to make a party, how to find people for the party, etc.

Drg is the job I am most familiar with since it is my main, but I could also write about warrior and maybe samurai.

If you want to include a crafting section I can help with that as well, other things I could write about are, mining, harvesting, chocobo digging, logging, Eco warrior, Garrison, skillchains, although you might want to provide a little how to SC guide and then a link to Aden's renkei chart for the list of SC.

EFs I've never done, but I was the one who planned most of the LS garrisons, so I feel pretty comfortable with that one.

Just a thought, but you might want to also include racial tips. For instance there is little else better in the footwear department for a mithra melee than our RSE feet for quite some time. RSE legs are probably the best thing for a mithra mage until some job's AF.

You've probably already plan to have this in there, but since I didn't see it mentioned a how to guide on Macros would be helpful. Myself personally I have had no experiance with programming anything, so I needed someone to walk me through how to do it the first time, after that it was easy.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

I don't have a big ego, it just has a large mouth.
