      There aren't going to be any more jobs, ever. There's already 18 for a perfect alliance. While I'm entertained by the concepts of a Dancer a la Maculele and other such ideas, SE has plenty of canvas to work with as it is.

      There are other signs indicating this, as well: how many jobs can you have at the start of the game? Six. Pre-Zilart, how many Advanced jobs? Five. Post-Zilart? 4 more added. Aht Urghan? 3 added. 6 + 5 + 4 + 3 = 18. By that pattern, I doubt adding what few unique jobs are left would even be practical.

        I'd be happy if they never added new jobs ever again. There is still a lot of content they can add without making jobs one of them.

          You just say that because you keep starting over

          I'd rather not see FFXI devolve into what EQ currently is, new jobs are very much what sells expansion packs..

          There's plenty of jobs left, I just don't see a need for any in Wings of the Goddess since it goes back to the Middle Lands.

          Time Mage and Mime are impractical choices, though. Time Mage was pretty much designed around the idea of the ATB battle system in the console games and I don't think we can take time magic much further than we have in FFXI.

          Mime mimics other players and emulates what they do. PUP already kinda does this - the automation can emulate varying jobs - and it was also to satisfy the desire for a necromancer. Add to this the AF does somewhat bear a resemblance to GoGo, if a little more orgainized in appearance than Gogo was.

          I'd like to see Dancer or Geomancer or, at the very least, a hyrid of both in Mog's style. Alchemist, too. And Viking.

              Even if I'd stuck with one character the entire time, I still wouldn't have 18 jobs at level 75 (as it is, I only have 4). I just don't see a need for new jobs. We have everything covered. And I have my doubts that SE could add new jobs that would provide an entirely new function without causing problems for the jobs that already exist.

              I have yet to read any convincing arguments for the many jobs we see trotted out every time someone speculates. But I certainly don't begrudge anyone else the right to dream.

                I agree.

                I like talking about old FFs and what they had and blahblahblah, but they could really do a lot within the game without resorting to absolutely flooding us with jobs eventually.

                    It probably would. You can't throw out the system the entire game is based around five years in and not expect some serious upheaval.

                        I agree, there are already so many jobs they probably don't need too many more, but another tank-type job would be handy, because as it is, the general assumption is that PLD=tank, NIN=tank (even though it wasn't designed to be one) and in the very rare occasion WAR=tank (even though this was the "original" tank in my opinion, but everyone wants a PLD or NIN nowadays). So perhaps a new tank class would be good, as they can be few and far between at times, especially when there are only two jobs that are widely considered to be tanks.

                          Adding another job that fills a particular role will only change the ratio for the short term (while the job is new), but it's not going to make people who don't like tanking suddenly love it. Much like adding new healing classes. More healing classes doesn't mean that people are going to suddenly love healing. So while you'd have more classes that can fill a role, that doesn't necessarily mean you're going to have more players playing those classes.

                            well the obvious answer to bring in a job that's a DD that has to tank. Sort of like a DRK on crack with a multiplier.
