  • New salvage gear.

I love the new gear for Mnk/sam/nin/pup the stats are great and the set give you haste.

I like how with the implementation of ToAH the new gear has set abilities when you wear the whole set.

Whats the new salvage gear you're going to be working towards to??

    Re: New salvage gear.

Morrigan's body and hands replace Dalmatica and Zenith Mitts on my wish list, as well as replacing my solo gear and Errant Hpl. Huzzah for more inv space and less gear swapping. The head and legs pieces are less OMG but still great, replacing Wise Cap/Elite Beret and Mahatma Slops respectively.

If/when I finish collecting those pieces, I may as well go for the boots to complete the set, but I wonder if the MAB boost from the set is going to be better than MAB+4 or +5 from my Duelist's Boots. I can hope but I kinda doubt it. Might be useful for blu whenever I finish leveling it though.

        hmmm

If in a trip, we can get 2 items for these armors drop

The chance it will be the piece for the set you want would be 2/5, 40%

You go with 10 people, the chance you'll win lot is 1/10.

chance to win 1 piece..... = 4% That means 25 runs.

You need 3 pieces to unlock 1 armor = 75 runs.

If you do assault everyday, you can go Salvage every 2-3 days..... let's say 2 days if you always do 3 man assault

So 1 piece of armors should take roughly 75x2 = 150 days, 5 months.

to unlock a whole set, assume you do Assault daily and Salvage every 2 days = 25 months = a little over 2 years

But well most people won't be able to do 3 man assault daily -.- so SAlvage once a week is more reality....

          Thanks for the downer

If you go with 10 people, chances are you won't have to lot against all of them for every drop b/c not everyone has all jobs.

Seems a little early to say what the expected number of drops is.

These variables are not independent (also the first one is wrong, both pieces that drop could be from the same set - and then you get to lot twice, unless you won the first one). The set you want is not the same set everyone else in your group wants, so you'll *practically* be lotting against about 1/5 of the group (less if some of them already have that piece). Maybe more for RDM, BLM, BLU since two very popular jobs share that set.

You need 3 pieces to unlock 1 armor = 75 runs.
That doesn't quite work either, because you need 3 *specific* pieces. The chance that your first 3 pieces will complete anything is very small. To get a whole set you'll need 15 pieces, but the closer you get, the fewer pieces are "right" for you (because a piece you already have does you no good). Possibly offsetting this, the same thing applies to everyone else in your group, potentially reducing your competition for lots. This makes the actual odds very difficult to calculate.
If you do assault everyday, you can go Salvage every 2-3 days..... let's say 2 days if you always do 3 man assault
Assuming you don't spend assault points on anything else. It's possible Salvage may only be worthwhile for people who have no other use for their assault points (i.e. already have all the EX assault gear they want and don't need gil from selling non-EX assault gear).
So 1 piece of armors should take roughly 75x2 = 150 days, 5 months.

Because I disagree with several of your terms above, I don't think the final product is correct either. But I won't try to calculate it myself yet because the most important term, the overall drop rate, is too uncertain right now. If most runs get 10 or 20 pieces, that's very different. (I think it's safe to assume runs with well-established and understood strategies will do better than the first few runs we have data from so far.) Also, the effect of people having certain pieces already and not being able to lot them is complex - it's bad when it happens to you, but good when you're lotting a piece that others with your job already have.

              Re: New salvage gear.

Currently, we really are getting only 1-2 unlock pieces per run. We might get more once we know more about this whole thing. But I wouldn't expect it to drop as much as 10 a run. And so far my runs have been getting only level 15-25 pieces. the level 35 pieces have yet to drop. Maybe it will drop from deeper bosses kinda like Ultima/Omega parts. Just speculation.

These unlockable armors are even better than most sky pieces which already took months and months to get. I say, at least a whole year to get a full set is about the bare minimum of what I'm expecting. 2-4 months a piece.

                Re: New salvage gear.

I think I'd have to agree with Jei on the time involvement simply via speculation because these armors, being elite gear, are not intended, I think, to be ubiquitous but rather rare and stylish. People like having things no one else has and being "cooler" than everyone else. This is what end-game is about. Getting "stuff"--not necessarily completing storyline because that is, most generally, very easy for end-gamers to do.

I would put forth, however, that even after you get these items, you have to collect stacks of very rare and expensive reagents. I can't remember the last time I saw a whole stack of Orichalcum on the AH...

Have you seen the skadi set? Its a recolor of the leather set in drumroll
                  PINK!
                  Sorry, had to say it.
Barring the fact that it will take forever to get the drops, Sabaron is right, the body piece will cost minimum of 4m, and thats assuming they don't go up in price.

I still have a few more levels to go before wearing it, but I'll most likely start working for feet and maybe legs and hands of the skadi set sometime soon. Fortunately feet and legs are the two cheapest to get, atleast for the moment.

                    Re: New salvage gear.

Who cares if the drop rates are low and it takes a long time to get a whole set. Everything in this game takes a long time to do.

Endgame gear that is really nice that I can work towards is my idea of good. It gives me a chance where I don't have a chance at the drops from the 3 kings. I can't wait to try Salvage and pretty much all of my Assault points will go towards doing these because I think the rewards will be worth it. (Plus I enjoy these instanced events like Limbus that you get to do with your friends).

Twelve Imperial Wootz Ingots for one piece of gear (at least the RDM or WHM body pieces)....now look at the price histories of these in the Auction House (even try www.ffxiah.com or just check in game).

Looking at this alone, I don't think I'm gonna bother w/ salvage...

                          Re: New salvage gear.

The drop rate really isn't as bad as people think it is. Yes the drops from the normal mobs is usually 2-3 a run, but lets add in NMs and the boss as well.

Each zone has 2-3 NMs that have 1 guaranteed drop (lvl 15 gear) and 1 semi-rare drop (lvl 35 gear)

The boss, although hard as hell, drops 2-3 of the lvl 25 gear.

So really your looking at 1-12 drops per run, from least ideal to best possible situation. 5-7 drops per run on average is better than Ice dynamis drops heh.
