Re: Do you prefer computer or 360?

I play on PC using a PS2 pad. I have the 360 version aswell but I prefer the PC version by far. The text for people / monster names is hard to read on the 360 version (I'm just using a small portable tv) and for some reason the controls just feel wierd, I dunno why.

Re: Do you prefer computer or 360?

I tend to prefer playing games on consoles (I'm getting FFXI for the 360) because I find it easier to "forget" I'm holding a pad than I do a mouse and keyboard, and therefore get adsorbed into the game more easily. Also, you don't get those "PC-isms" like Norton Antivirus alerts or other pop-ups ("Would you like to install these updates now?" and the like) interrupting the game and ruining the atmosphere. There's nothing worse than being in, say, the ancient ruins, searching for hidden riches when all of a sudden BAM! you're back at your desk on your PC with a little window asking you if you'd like to restart now or later.

That reminds me of another point. Consoles tend to be played in more relaxed, casual surroundings whereas PCs tend to be played at a desk. This Christmas I'm looking forward to sitting in an armchair in the living room, playing FFXI on the large widescreen TV surrounded by friends and family (whether they care about my new thief character is a different matter!) but it just wouldn't be the same if I was in the study sitting up to the desk and viewing it on a comparatively small, 4:3 ratio monitor.

Of course, it's all down to personal tastes. A lot of people cite the higher resolution of the PC version as an attractive prospect, but personally I find that games played on a monitor have oddly sharp edges and everything stands out too much - kind of looks clinical. The lower resolution TV actually has the accidental effect of simulating the softening effect that air has in real life.

      Edit
      I should just add:
I have a USB keyboard (a wireless one, incidentally) as I know this game use macros and is naturally dependent on talking to other players (unless you're a lone wolf character).

I do also appreciate that PC versions of games tend to give the player more control and options for the game, also with games like Ragnarok Online having the ability to fully customize the HUD.

The gameplay is the same. You're on the same servers, and players on PS2, Xbox360, PS3, and PC are all mingled - there aren't separate servers for each platform.

FFXI's difficulty does not come from the interface, but the learning curve can be a bit steep for some players.

It will neither be easy or hard since you will have no frame of reference.

That's why I'm installing it on my media center PC...that way I get the comfort of sitting on the couch playing on the big screen in high res, but the ease of use (for me) playing with the PC peripherals.

I play my FFXI on an 8ft screen. I have a projector TV that I use for games and movies. It's the only way to play. LOL.

Re: Do you prefer computer or 360?

Ive been playing on PC for 3 years now. I got the ps2 version the other day for kicks but I cant stomach the graphics. The examines take up the entire screen you cant see names till they are right in your face it is just terrible ><' I'd like to get a 360 and try it out but I dunno if its worth going out and getting one and the game just to relax on the couch and play. Id really like to though sitting at the desk and gaming is getting old . So can anyone vouch if the 360 version is really worth it, I wouldnt want another dissappointment like the ps2 version. Even tho it was on clearance for 30 dollars it still was a dissappointment.

I prefer the 360 version because its a nice change from playing MMO's on the PC all the time. Also there is almost 0 lag on the 360 which is always nice.

There's not enough game I want to play on 360 to buy it. If FFXI goes to Wii I'll get that ^^ Because I really want to play Zelda on it.

I bought Zelda for Wii already and I don't even have the console.

I prefer it on PC, but with a PS2 controller. I started out on the PS2, but the interface is too large and takes up more than half the screen when in a pt. I had to switch to PC once I built my current one last month. It's so much better, but I can't stand using a keyboard.

With the lag issue, you don't experience any if you have a nice rig. I don't have any lag whatsoever. Looks much better than on the PS2 also.

The single thing that made me want it for PC is the simple fact that you can tweak it. Changing .dat files, changing the background resolution to make character models look nicer, larger screen resolution, etc. Only if they would let us change the UI, I would never play in on PS2 again or on any other console.

I've played on all 3 platforms. Started on PC, then used ps2 for awhile, and recently tried the 360. The ps2 version rapes my eyesight. I get headaches while playing after about 45 minutes or so, same with the 360 version. The PC version doesn't hurt my eyes nearly as much due to the smoother textures and generally brighter look of the game. Thank God for 1280 x 1024.

I pretty much am in the same boat except I only used the PS2 version when my PC was busted (my fault lol, and this was before 360 version). Later I got the 360 version, and the only qualm I have with it is the D-Pad on the controller blows and this game uses the d-pad a lot for menus, etc. I usually play on the PC w/ boosted resolution (background resolution doubled "max" via reg hack, the game looks AMAZING). The only time I play on 360 version now is if I want to lay on my bed and play or my PC is dead for some reason (ya PC's aren't as reliable as consoles, is one draw back).
