    OK, let's take a detailed look at Skadi set for RNG (as an example).

    Skadi's Visor DEF:15 DEX+4 AGI+4 Attack+6 Ranged Attack+6 Haste+3% Set: Critical hit rate+
    The attack, haste and dex are basically dead stats for RNG unless you melee, which leaves AGI+4 Ranged Attack+6. What alternatives are there in the head slot?

    Hunter's Beret+1 DEF 24 HP+13 AGI+4 INT+4 Ranged Attack+5 Increases "Rapid Shot" activation rate
    One less ranged attack, but unlike haste, Rapid Shot *does* work on ranged attacks. Limbus.

    Pln. Qalansuwa DEF 15 HP+25 Accuracy+7 Attack+5 Ranged Accuracy+7
    Trades off the ranged attack for ranged accuracy. Which is better is likely to be situational. Assault.

    War Beret/+1 DEF 20/21 HP+10 INT-3 Accuracy+7 Ranged Accuracy+7/ HP+12 INT-4 Accuracy+9 Ranged Accuracy+9
    Again, ranged acc instead of ranged atk. Synthed.

    Optical Hat DEF 0 Accuracy+10 Ranged Accuracy+10 Evasion+10
    Another ranged acc piece, offering more ranged acc than either of the above. Hakutaku.


    Skadi's Cuirie DEF:40 DEX+8 AGI+8 CHR+8 Accuracy+10 Attack+5 Ranged Accuracy+10 Ranged Attack+5 Evasion-10 Set: Critical hit rate+
    The important stats here are the racc+10, ratk+5 and agi+8. Definitely a very nice piece for RNG. Is there anything equally good or better?

    Kirin's Osode DEF 52 MP+30 STR+10 DEX+10 VIT+10 AGI+10 INT+10 MND+10 CHR+10 [LIT]+50
    I don't know if this is better or not. The stats will give you RATK indirectly and STR will also affect your damage, not to mention the MND if you use holy bolts, but at the cost of considerable RACC. Kirin.

    Pln. Khazagand DEF 42 HP+20 Accuracy+10 Ranged Accuracy+10 Increases rate of critical hits HP recovered while healing +2
    Assuming the increased crits apply to ranged attacks, it might or might not produce more damage than Skadi. Assault.

    Archer's Jupon DEF 40 STR+5 Ranged Accuracy-10 Ranged Attack+10
    It will give you higher damage per shot... if you hit. I don't know how often you'll want to sacrifice 20 RACC for that, but maybe sometimes. Ambusher Antlion.

    Hydra Harness DEF 44 Enchantment: Attack+25 Ranged Attack+25
    While the enchantment is up, will probably give more damage than any of the above. Of course you'll want to change after it wears. Dynamis-Tavnazia.


    Skadi's Bazubands DEF:17 STR+5 AGI+5 Attack+10 Ranged Attack+10 Set: Critical hit rate+
    Looks good at first, but not if you already know what the alternatives are.

    Seiryu's Kote DEF 26 HP+50 AGI+15 Ranged Accuracy+10
    A very popular piece for RNG as you probably already know. RACC vs. RATK again, so you may want to have both and switch between them depending on the fight, normal shots vs. barrage vs. ws, etc. Seiryu.

    Hunter's Bracers+1 DEF 14 HP+10 DEX+6 AGI+6 Enhances "Barrage" effect Enhances "Shadowbind" effect
    You'll probably want this for the JA enhances, although the stats aren't that good otherwise. Limbus.

    Crimson Fng. Gnt./Blood Fng. Gnt. DEF 26/27 HP+20 MP+20 Ranged Accuracy+10 Ranged Attack+10 Dark magic skill+10 / HP+22 MP+22 Ranged Accuracy+11 Ranged Attack+11 Dark magic skill+11
    The combination of RACC and RATK would seem hard to pass up, except I know several RNG who *do* pass it up... to wear Seiryu's Kote instead. If you do sometimes want RATK from your hand slot, this and Seiryu's are probably better overall than Skadi's and Seiryu's. Wyrmal abjuration (Seiryu).


    Skadi's Chausses DEF:28 Accuracy+4 Attack+5 Ranged Accuracy+4 Ranged Attack+5 Store TP+7 Haste+2% Set: Critical hit rate+
    Acc, atk and haste are dead stats again. However, Store TP is otherwise hard to find in RNG gear. Of course while Store TP does some good on normal shots and a lot of good on Barrage, it does very little for WS, so it's likely that you will only sometimes want to wear these.

    Scout's Braccae+1 DEF 33 HP+18 Ranged Accuracy+9 Parrying skill+10 Enmity-3
    More racc, less ratk. -Enmity is a nice touch if you can get it without giving up anything else important. Dynamis.

    Crimson Cuisses/Blood Cuisses DEF 43/44 HP+25 MP+25 [Fire]+20 [Lightning]+20 [Water]+20 [Dark]+20 Movement speed+12% / HP+27 MP+27 [Fire]+21 [Lightning]+21 [Water]+21 [Dark]+21 Movement speed+12%
    These do nothing for your damage, but are worth mentioning anyway for the movement speed, which is otherwise very difficult to find. Useful for some pulling situations. Wyrmal abjuration (Kirin).

    Dusk Trousers/+1 DEF 47/48 HP+35 Attack+14 Ranged Accuracy+10 Decreases movement speed / HP+37 Attack+15 Ranged Accuracy+11 Decreases movement speed
    Again a matter of RATK vs RACC. Might or might not be worthwhile. Synthed (with behemoth leather).


    Skadi's Jambeaux DEF:16 STR+3 VIT+3 Accuracy+5 Ranged Accuracy+5 Evasion-5 Increases movement speed Set: Critical hit rate+
    Very nice movement speed bonus (wonder if it stacks with Crimson), but if you're going to stand still and shoot, only the STR and RACC are all that significant. However, it looks like feet aren't a very productive slot for RNG in general, so Skadi looks good more because of the lack of competition than anything else.

    Scout's Socks+1 DEF 17 HP+12 VIT+5 Ranged Accuracy+12 Enmity-4
    These are the stats listed on Mysterytour, but they also list the normal Scout's Socks as having ranged *attack*, so I'm not sure which is correct. In any case, you get more ranged stats and -enmity too, so any time you're standing still these are probably better than Skadi's. Dynamis.


    Overall, most pieces of Skadi are good, but I couldn't find even one that was definitely better than any of the alternatives. For COR it's a little different because COR doesn't have any AF2 or AF+1 (yet) and can't wear Kirin's Osode set, but if Skadi's not clearly better than existing gear for old jobs, it probably won't be clearly better than yet-to-be-introduced gear for new jobs, either. Unless you really think that the TAU jobs will *never* get anything equivalent to AF2 or AF+1, which I doubt.
