BCNM30 2x Beetles

3 of us want to do a BCNM, but we have a rather strange job combination and I was wondering if we would have any luck with this one. Recentlky had our ass handed to us from the Creeping Doom one.

The one with 2 Beetles, in Horlais Peak, is the one I was thinkking of doing.

Jobs are RDM/BLM, WHM/THF BLM/WHM

Apparently one beetle is physical and the other is magical.

Srat:

1 x Elemental Seal + SLeep on physical beetle
1 x Silence on Magical beetle
Nuke / hit the hell out of magical beetle
If other wakes, elemental seal + Sleep again
then pop a few ethers and nuke the hell out of second beetle with Bind.

Reckon it will work?

I did this with some friends a while ago. We went WAR/NIN, THF/NIN and BLM/WHM. We went something 1/3 or 2/3 on it. You won't be able to keep the 1 Beetle slept indifinitely. I would think low damage would be your main weak point with your 3 mage setup.

Barstonra may be just as effective against the magical beetle as Silence. According to the posts I could find on Alla, the magical beetle is either immune to silence, or simply very very resistant against it.

I'm guessing that between the ES Sleep and the nukes, your BLM will hit the floor first. And then your WHM. And lastly the RDM.

BTW, why the THF sub for WHM?

I dunno, drops I suppose. TH1 helps a bit dont it?

The reaosn I sat Sleep is becuase ona strat read elsewhere with a similar setup (I think it was 2x BLM and 1 PLD) they said they slep it twice and on the second time they were even able to heal a bit b4 it woke up...

SO no go then...know of any BCNM's that we could do? Has to be 30, already got the orb.

Treasure Hunter does not affect bcnm items. The items do not drop from the mobs but come out a chest.

I do this one all the time and my party always owns. In my opinion, you should switch out the Whm/Thf for a Pld/War, but other then that your setup is good. They cannot be silenced so the main thing is to make sure that everyone has Barstonra and only the Paladin is close enough to get hurt by anything. We had a different Blm with us one time, he stood to close and got one-shotted.

Here is my strategy if you do get a Pld. Make sure that Barstonra is up right before you cross over into the arena. Have the Pld voke the one on the left (magical) and move it away from everyone. Blm ES+Sleep the right one (physical). As soon as the physical one wakes up the Rdm ES+sleep and then Gravity. Pld cure themself, Blm nukes and heals(only if the Pld really needs it) and same with the Rdm.

If the physical one wakes up, the Rdm has to kite it (Make sure it has gravity on) until the Blm and Paladin have good HP/MP. Then the Rdm brings it back and everyone kills it. The Paladin will be healing the mages since it is kind of hard to hold hate against the mage attacks.

The key is to make sure the physical one is sleeping or kited and that the magical one only attacks the Paladin. With all mages, this will be tough to pull off since its attacks are still strong enough to hurt you.

My suggestion: have a different set of jobs. BCNMs tend to be very rough, and you typically don't get too much freedom in mixing-and-matching jobs. RDM + WHM + BLM is rather low dmg. I think Sleeping the physical beetle is key to this BCNM, but if you don't have enough dmg output, you won't be able to kill the first beetle in time (every time the 2nd beetle wakes up, you run the risk of not being able to sleep it in time before lethal damage has been done to your party).

I'd suggest either having one of your friends pursue a melee DD job that can also tank for this BCNM, or have the RDM and WHM both level BLM to 30 for the Crawler BCNM 30 (repeated Aspir with a manaburn finish seems to be a very consistent win strategy for it).

As far as TH in BCNMs is concerned, I agree with Skoal that it shouldn't have any impact on the quality of drops. Even if it did have some impact, a failed BCNM attempt always results in 0 loot. Proper sub job selection by all members can have a huge impact on your win rate. Having the right job/sub job selection to maximize your chances of winning will increase your loot far more than TH ever could.

Thank you - I shall get a PLD/WAR instead of a WHM/THF then. Only reason this was is just 3 of us were like - yeah lets do a BCNM30, so we all went and got orbs and were trtying to find one our job setuo could handle.

But yes I agree, very low damage >.<
