6 months later I was finaly 30 and only 3 of us were left.

I left Pandiumoum and went to Catsith and got to White mgae 21 there.

Them my two friends from Pandy wnt to Leviathan and I jumpoed to there, and got BLM to 20, before I dropped off to save my $$$$ for Christmas.

Do you remember your first time?

      Re: Remembering Your First

October 2002 I think.... Shortly after JP PC was released. I log on, create a character, got random to some server I don't remember which.

I picked bastok and started walking around. Not knowing anything at all.... I found a player fishing so I try /t his name (learnt that command from EQ) asking him how to log out.

      He replied in japanese

      I tell him I don't understand ; ;

He then... after a moment of silent, told me to use menu to log out.

I then asked him how to open menu.

      He said triangle button.

I told him I use PC only have keyboard >.>

Then, we were both speechless staring at each othe for a while. Until I tried /logout and it worked....

Started in oct 2005, logged in to bastok choosing hume, during the beginning opening dialogue tired talkign to the npc's talking, the negative reply from one of the NPC's during the dialogue I thought was a PC lol how embarrasing when you look back on it. Took me a while to learn the keys to walk around.

Sept 04, at EU release. Noob Elvaan in Sandy. Remember thinking it had crashed because the Sandy opening sequence takes FOREVER to come out of blackness...

              haha when I first read the topic I was thinking . . . . .

Anyway, I guess getting 50gil was a big disappointment after desperate /says asking where that NPC was. Then selling 2 stack of Fire Crystals for 4k and getting some leather armor was some highlights ...

                  Re: Remembering Your First

March, of 2006. I had dreams of being a badass Black Mage, who killed all in his path ;p. I had gotten the game for christmas 05, actually, but my computer couldn't play it, so I had to wait until March, when I could afford a new one.

Starting out in Windurst, I couldn't control the camera or my character, sdo I kept running into walls and such. It then took me about an hour and a half to find my wait outside. I kept on damming SE, and bitching and moaning.

I found my LS TWO DAYS after I started, they found me lost in giddeus, and helped me out. I've been with them ever since.

It is hard to believe, that in less than a year, i'm already nearly sixty, and I've made some of the best friends in the world in this game.

                    Re: Remembering Your First

July 05 if i remember correctly I picked this game up after the swg nerf. I did all the usual stuff talking to npcs. selling everything to npc shops because I didnt know about the ah. bidding N+1 on the ah because I thought thats how auctions worked.

A year and a half on im still a n00b lvl 50 in one job (though ive had a go at most of them) and still loving every minute of it.

                      Re: Remembering Your First

October 03, NA PC Launch. I roll up my Mithran Warrior in Windurst, grab my ring, and say "Hasta la vista, Hippie Town" as I start my journey to Bastok at level 2 (was forced to gain a level due to farming items for gil for the ferry)... ...(and yes, I was already that well informed from some friends of mine that had been playing the Japanese version, as well as spending a little bit of time at a friend's house with the NA version, getting used to the controls). Lemmie tell ya, MGSing my way from Windy to Mhuara, then getting a Raise on the docks of Selbina (I ran into Sea Horror on my very first day on the game; that's a whole other story for another time), then running to both Sandy *then* to Bastok, was quite fun (hell, I may just do that again with one of my lvl 1 jobs just to see if I still have those skills to do it again).

                      Ah, good times.

P.S.: Oh, I prolly do still have said MGS skills. I took my boss's level 1 Mithran Black Mage from Windurst to San d'Oria shortly after he made his character (I sent him the 40 gil he would have been short for the ferry after cashing in the ticket you start with). He still doesn't know how I did it, but mebbie I'll impart my knowledge upon him someday.

Jan 04. Just bought my brand new Sony and had my DSL hooked up. Took about 2 hours to find my way out of Sandy. I never talked to npcs though. I just died a lot as my sword wielding war.

March 23, 2004 -- the PS2 launch of FFXI. Actually, I didn't get on the game until the next day, due to the lengthy installation and busy evening I had that day.

On perhaps my 2nd day playing, I saw someone /shouting for members to do the Gustaberg Run. I had no idea what it was, and part of me was a bit shy of breaking away from solo, but I decided to give it a try.

When we got to the end of the quest, I found out that I didn't even have the quest activated. But I got something far more valuable than the quest reward. 4 out of the 5 people in that pt became close in-game friends of mine. Alas, only 1 of them still plays FFXI today.

Oddly enough, the majority of my close FFXI friends were players I met doing the Gustaberg Run. That quest seems to be a good litmus test for a new player's personality.

March 23, 2004, during the PS2 launch of FFXI at NA. However, I got the PC version I am using the same character on the same server even since my 1st day of this game. Still haven't reach level 75 yet~ <me> is such a slow poke >.<

I never thought I would play this game for almost such a long time (my first MMO, completely addicted). I have a strange feeling that FFXI would be my first and last MMO.... lol

edit: I remember 1st painful thing is to pick a name for my character... it took me almost an hour to create my character because those names that I can think of got picked by others V.V I finally give in and just let the game generate a random name for me.

June or July 2003 - PS2 NA Beta

After I created my character and selected RDM it asked me what country I wanted to live in. This was a question I had never given any thought to, so I get my sister and ask her what country I should pick. Showed her the three to choose from, and she goes, "I like the trees, go with that one." I've been a Windurst Elvaan ever since.

I remember walking out of Windy Walls with my lone spell of Dia, seeing all these Tarus killing ever Mandy, Rarab and Bee in sight. I had no knowledge of the /check system, so I died pretty quickly. Heck, I wandered around the town for nearly 3 hours before I even ventured outside to try to kill something.

I rejoined a month after the PS2 NA release. As "payment" for participating in Beta I recieved a free HDD, and had to wait for it to arrive. So I think by the 2nd or 3rd week of April I had my HDD and was back starting all over again. Basically did the same thing I did in beta. Elvaan, Windurst, just started as WAR so I had the starting Sword, and then immediately switched to RDM and got to work.

Took me about 5 weeks to get to Lv.30, and I ran into a guy I met briefly in beta. He and I then picked Advanced jobs and leveled to Lv.35 in 10 days.
