Can i farm the key and item in gusgen before my week is due? Or does oit have to be when my week starts?

You can farm the key before hand, but you can only open the chest and get the pattern when it is your week.

As far as I recall (it was a long time ago) you didn't need the quest activated, it automatically happened, but it may be worth talking to the goblin beforehand to be safe.

As for the jobs, it could be challenging with those two on the levels, but I am never so sure of Gusgen (I did all mine in Ordelle's). I am sure someone else here will have more knowledge of it.

You don't need the quest active to get the key, but you do need it active to get the pattern when opening the chest on your RSE week.

I found Ordelle's to be the easiest place for RSE. Just my 2 gil...

Ordelles is by far the easiest chest to find. Gusgen chests are a pain due to the switch system unless you are a BLM or /BLM to cast Escape and start over from the entrance (you can walk the path to get around, but ew).

Also note that at level 31, virtually everything in Gusgen as well as most things in Shakrami will aggro you. Ordelles has somewhat fewer aggro enemies, but they too are difficult to kill at that level.

I strongly suggest finding more friends or bringing someone higher level to help guard you while you are looking - you're going to need to do it more than once unless you just want a single piece of RSE.

I got all but one piece of RSE in Ordelle's. The Sachet run is also far easier than the others (though I still don't have my Sachet).

The nicest thing about Ordelle's is that you can farm Shikaree Rings and Flame Degens (a map quest item) while you farm keys--no mercy for the Stroper Chymes!

Oh and THF ftw for RSE. A THF/BLM can complete his run 10x faster than any other job--while everyone else is hunting keys, you just need to hunt the box.

I helped someone do Gusgen Mines chests for RSE, we had to be high/mid-30's, something like 35 and 37 or something. If you can get a DD around 38-40 you should be fine. The problem with Gusgen is it's full of undead which are both harder then they check and aggro low hp. Your WHM might get quite the workout.

The Mauthe Doogs also have Disease breath which is an incredible pain, the monsters occur in tightly packed groups (moreso than Ordelle's) and with the range of hp-aggro, it's more difficult to avoid deathlinks. I occasionally like pummelling the undead though, so have at it--it's fun, but you won't get your RSE nearly as fast in Gusgen.

Update to this.

I got the key 1/1. I thought it was going to be a breeze...

Kept sneak up, ran around for 4 HOURS looking for the damn chest. No pop. I swaer I checked every chest location, from ffxi atlas. I gave up in the end - I was and still am fuming. I ran round and round, started from scratch, even popped the Aroma Fly my mistake and died a quick death.

Im going to wait now for my week to be on Ordelles at a good time, not 4:25AM or something. Lvl35 now, though I may be a bit higher when I go to Ordelles, say 36 or 37. Do you think ill be ok to solo it?
