  • Changing Nations, Outposts, and you.

Hello, I was thinking about changing nations from Bastok to San d'Oria so I could complete the missions...

I'm still debating whether or not to, mainly because of Outpost Warp.

I know I'll lose all my outposts when I make the switch, but I plan on coming back to Bastok once I finish the missions there and in Windurst. Will I get the outposts back once I come back to Bastok?

From what I read, no, they are unfortunatly lost for good Could be mistaken but I'm sure I read about this.

Outposts are lost. One of the developers said in a FanFest (or E3) interview with BG that they may consider setting it up in the future so that they would be saved. I wouldn't expect that any time soon.

I would love to see the other nations' stories but I"m not about to give up my outposts for it, especially since Conquest has lost a lot of steam with ToAU. It would be tough enough for me to get the normal ones back let alone the competing starting regions.

You definitely lose all your outposts permanently when you switch (I know this from first-hand experience, and this is a fairly common question).

Still, if you haven't done a lot of outpost quests for hard-to-get zones, then you might consider eventually doing a tour of duty to rank 10 in every city. The stories are fun, you can pick up some nifty EX gear while you're globetrotting, and you get really cool wall hangings for your mog house (each city gives you a Conquest Flag once you reach rank 10 in that city).

Plus you can purchase all three aketons with conquest! Would be awkward if you wore the wrong one in the wrong city though.....

Actually, I really wanted to do Windy missions, since they revolve a lot around Fenrir and such, but after getting outposts for both Ronfaure and Sarutabaruta, I figure there's no way Bastok would get them again when I come back (and ofcourse I would come back). Plus Bastok has been in 1st place the last three weeks straight so I know hell is a mighty cold place right now and would rather not tempt fate.

Nope. Outposts are still lost on switching. It's one of the stupidest 'features' or whatever in this game. There's 3 full nations worth of great storylines out there and the majority of the playerbase won't see 2/3 of it because they don't want to give up their hard work, especially since Conquest is kind of passe now.

well... if you really want to do all the missions i dont see why you cant do them then come back to your real home nation and do expiditionary forces in the areas you want to change so you can get the warps... you just need to get a bunch of ppl from the same country to help out and you can take over any zone with a little effort... at least thats what we did.

though i have to add that i did not set up any of the runs so im not sure what kind of limitations there are on which zones you can pick.

Re: Changing Nations, Outposts, and you.

I think the only limitation on EF is that you can't do an area your nation already controls, and you can't do newbie regions (Gusta, Ron, Saruta). I haven't done much of it though.

But really, how often do you use that Teriggan outpost anymore? With the new sky shortcut I don't even use the Zi'Tah one. Beaucedine/Xarcabard for dynamis maybe, but if you ask your LS for a tele-vahzl, I'm sure you can get one (unless your ls really sucks).

With WotG around, outpost in the present isn't the only quick way to get to another city...

Which are the hardest ones to get with an OP warp (and arguably, the most useful)

Whether it's useful or not isn't important-- CP aren't vital, but you get that when you switch back to your home country. Rank missions are easier to redo than some outposts; but we keep our rank too. Outpost warps, iirc, are the ONLY thing you lose when you switch nations that you can't get back, and that's just bad.

I fully agree with keeping them specific to one nation-- otherwise all that would keep people from collecting all the outpost warps would be changing countries. However, there's no good reason to lose them from your home country as well.

Re: Changing Nations, Outposts, and you.

I have multiple characters, so there's at least the theoretical possibility of getting all the national mission content that way (whether my actually getting Nya to the point of being able to do all the Windy missions is in any way likely is another matter). But Outpost teleports will prevent me from ever seriously considering nation-swaps, in all likelihood. Back in the inflationary economy, it was possible, albeit still expensive even at that era's gil value, to band together and spam cheap ammo at the outpost NPC in order to take over a newbie region for one week. This could easily end up consuming a couple hundred thousand gil from even the more casual participants, and throwing around that kind of money today is inconceivable (this isn't just about people not valuing bought gil; back then you could make that kind of money back within a week or two without much worrying about it, since demand for most things was pretty much constant).

I was part of previous takeovers by Bastok of Sarutabaruta and Ronfaure, and even helped to supply a takeover effort by Windurst of Gustaberg, so I have those coveted supply runs done (annoyingly, it's only my Windy crafting/gardening mule who has Gustaberg, since Nya was still on Remora back then). I don't see those regions ever changing hands again on Midgardsormr.

If it came down to it, I might eventually have Koren switch to Windurst in the future; she doesn't have anything really rare to lose, particularly now that Windy actually takes Zulkheim and Kolshushu on a semi-regular basis (those two used to be extremely rare for Windurst to acquire).
