Re: lag on ps2?
Most of the time you will not experience in major lag. With a slow connection you might get small amounts in jeuno and maybe later on around the ah in Aht Urghan, but thats normal for everyone. Much later on there will be lag while participating in Besieged and Dynamis, but thats much later down the line and everyone experiences it in these places, so no worries. You'll be fine on ps2.I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: lag on ps2?
Obligatory warning about the PS2 version:
The PS2 version of FFXI is no longer officially supported by Square-Enix, since the PS2 hard drive is discontinued. In order to play FFXI on PS2, you need an older style PS2 (not the "slim" one - it won't work!), a PS2 network adapter, a PS2 hard drive (which comes with FFXI + Rise of the Zilart), plus the PS2 versions of each additional expansion (Chains of Promathia, Treasures of Aht Urhgan).
I have heard unconfirmed reports that the PS2 version does work on the PS3, but you'll still need the PS2 expansions.

Re: lag on ps2?
I'll check if it works on PS3 in a sec... sitting through firmware patch 1.3 right now. ~_~
Edit: ...It doesn't work. It just brings you to a screen that says...

Re: lag on ps2?
nope you still need to buy the expansion inorder to gain access to the areas.
If you don't get it, the land of Aht Urhgan won't exist for you
As for lag... The PS2 is the BEST system to play on in terms of problems and lag.
I swear sometimes I see things appear in game others won't see (PC people)
Just try and out claim me :D 3/3 n00bolger
Although it does look the crapiest of the 3 at least you can go all out w/
weather & effects and have no problems.
The game was made for the PS2 what can I say ^^

Re: lag on ps2?
yes, you can play on a dial up 56k connection. I had some friends who did it.
They lagged a lot tho. A better faster connection would make the gaming experience a lot better imo.
heck if you can play this on a fiber connection you can play with your phone line SEE FOR YOURSELF

Re: lag on ps2?
Hidden charge? For FFXI? Not that I'm aware of, everything you pay is listed in the monthly summary that playonline volunteers to show you everytime you log in for the first week or so of every month. Its been a long time since I started a new account, but the first 30 days are free with a new game purchase, whatever is left of a month after that 30 days is prorated. From there on out its the prices Icemage quoted earlier. I can't remember any "hidden" charges like connection fees or other such nonsense at all.I RNG 75 I WAR 37 I NIN 38 I SAM 50 I Woodworking 92+2

Re: lag on ps2?
By the way, FFXI is still supported by SE; they still offer tech support. It will just be a lot harder finding the actual game for that platform.MisterCookie: Alla refugee since May 2006

Re: lag on ps2?
Quick Question since it's related:
About "hidden charges" is there an additional fee for reactivation?
Say I come back and get charged for the month upon activation $12.95 (1 character)
plus an additional $12.95 for the "activation"?
