I just wanted to let you know that I will be taking leave of this game, Final Fantasy XI. My last log-in will take place some time tonight. I have pretty much given away all of my liquid assets to a couple of very close friends and bestowed upon them my prized possessions (The items that can be traded) I'm sure at one point, they were worth a princely sum, but due to the massive deflation on my server, it's just a small parting gift to those who were dearest to me.
It has been a long and wonderful jaunt through the years playing on two accounts. I've seen many people come and go and have made some really good friends and met many, many people from all walks of life and from all over the world. For that, I am eternally grateful to Square Enix for providing that opportunity. They may not have delivered handsomely at various times, but their craftsmanship is still second to none in my opinion.
I remember vividly the first time I logged into the game. It was on Ragnarok server, as a selected tester on Square's (Pre Enix) Final Fantasy XI Closed Beta program (Back in January 2003) What a joy it was! A brand new world I have not seen the likes of, with strong and vibrant colors that radiated forth from every object, terrain and character. I was mesmerized and to say the least, instantly "hooked" to the game.
The beta testing lasted about a couple of months and then I found myself as a tester yet again during the Open Beta program, which ran through the summer of 2003, leading up to the NA launch of the game (For Windows) in late 2003.
There were a lot of ups and downs, but through it all, I can say that for the most part, it was rather entertaining. I look back at my total accumulated gaming time of 300+ days and can say that I don't regret one bit the time I put into the development of several characters and the time spent with friends.
Alas, as with all good things, there has to be an ending. For me, it was a question of both time and motivation, as I found the desire lacking as of late to log-in to the game at all. Currently I've invested some time in another online game and have since thoroughly enjoyed that venture so far and with my current progress, there is motivation enough to continue. I have also very limited time to spend to online gaming in general, so FFXI is already without question the game least likely suited to fulfill my limited schedule (e.g., not being able to log on daily to check on chocobo or gardening)
In closing, I would like to wish each and every one of you propsperity and health in your future endeavors, whether your time is spent in Vana'Diel or outside of the game in your own life. I thank you all for letting me be a part of your adventures and I would also like to thank Ping and his Minions (Jei, Akosygin, Tazirai, Icemage, Neighbortaru et al) for putting together and maintaining one of the best FFXI online community out there. Without a doubt, both the game and the players have made a lasting impression on me.

(I'll probably visit the forums from time to time, checking out the game section, since I know quite a few of you are avid gamers )
