  • Should FFXI have instances?

Since I'm new here, I'm wondering what the community's feeling on this is about. From what I read, FFXI is annoying in the case of having to camp these "notorious monster", only to sometime be beatened by gil farmers. So i'm wondering, perhaps instances should be implemented? That way, everyone can get their fair shot at these NM?

It does have instances. Not all enemies are "open-claim" - there are a variety of instanced battlefields where you can acquire all kinds of juicy stuff (BCNM, ENM, Dynamis, Limbus, Assault, etc.). In fact, open claim notorious monsters are generally the exception, not the rule (though it's true that a few of those exceptions produce some of the best gear in the game).

Ah, I see. So most of the NM, where you can get your one of the best loot from is instances?

        Re: Should FFXI have instances?

True but I prefer to do BCNM atm because i have very little time what with college but it annoyig when you get the orb and get a rubbish drop but thats life,
TIP B4 going in to a BCNM figure out who's getting the drop most will say your orb your drop and do as many runs as there are people but you always get one as who will ruin the BCNM for everyone by stealing the drop

It ain't tanking unless you get hit
To those who are about to tank I salute you.

          Best loot?

          Yes... and no.

FFXI is *very* competitive but also *very* team-based. Most of the HNM's (top dog mobs, basically) require >18 people to kill.

Instances such as Dynamis can require 64 people to clear out the entire zone - and even doing that's hard with items having very low drop rates.

Basically, you get out what you put in. Unless you're extremely lucky, most of the great items won't be yours any time soon...

              It's not that bad honestly!

You just need groundrules for whatever you are doing. BCNM - do you split and share, or your orb, your loot? Easy way for your orb your loot is to ensure whoever's orb it is is party leader, then QM yourself. Swap it around for each run.

Yes the top NMs are hard to claim, but there is plenty to do, and good gear to get even if you don't go that far. Dynamis is a bit of a timesink, but you don't HAVE to have 64 people, you just won't be able to kill as much as a group that large will. And noone says you even have to do it at all, a lot of people have fun just levelling, farming, crafting and fishing!

I still wear a lot of my Pld AF. It works fine to 75 and I tank most HNM in body, legs, and feet. That is probably for the pld forum though.

and I agree with Kirsteena. So many think it is like a "job" when you get into endgame, but it really doesn't have to be. I have done the most fun things in FFXI at "endgame".
(note I am not saying there is a need to rush to 75... I am just saying that is where I enjoy the game most )

Also, I am a pretty casual player, and I have obtained alot of the gear I wanted.

                    Re: Should FFXI have instances?

There's a difference between endgame and level 75.

Endgame = HNM, Kings, Wyrms, Dynamis, Limbus, etcetc - which (normally) require you to be online in a certain place at a certain time with no exceptions.

Level 75 = Running around doing whatever you feel like, because you can. Chances are you'll never see the fancy super power ranger rare/ex gear, but you also don't lose weeks of your life in Sky or Dynamis...

I'm not saying which is the best option, that's up to you. But I know what I chose.

I never had anyone ruining the bcnm drop before.

Even in dynamis, in 3 years there was only 1 single person who break the rule and lot the item he shouldn't lot. And of course he got kicked out of the shell that very moment.

On instances, I wrote up a "FLAWLESS SYSTEM" as I called it that mixed instances and many, many world HNMs and finally other, nonHNM ways to access instances. Instances prevent bottle-necking, however too many could strip the MMO feeling and rarity. This has been some SE reps excuses about making King non-instanced. The thing is, never should almost all accessibility and gameplay be thrown away for the former two aspects.

It's not instanced - it's force-popped. Serves much the same purpose, however.
