  • FFXI Gift Card

    Hello!

I myself don't play FFXI, but my brother plays it all the time, and since there's a monthly subscription, I thought a cool Christmas present idea might be to prepay his fee for a couple of months. I know for WOW they sell cards that allow you to do this, but I can't seem to find anything for FFXI. Do any of you know of something like this?

    Thank you for your time!

you would have to buy FFXI for yourself then sign him up for a free 30 day trial offer...sorry but thats the only way..

I see the color of blood and hatred within your eyes, tell me, "Who Are You?"

FFXI doesn't have prepaid cards (yet), but perhaps you can contact PlayOnline Support and see if you can explicitly request for an early payment on an account.\

P.S. Don't buy another copy of the game. The free trial period is NOT usable for accounts that have already been created!

Wow, that would be a great gift for someone who loves FFXI. S/E should make something like that available.

If he uses one of these: https://www.epassporte.com/secure/finalfantasy.cgi, You could deposit money into it.

If he doesn't, you could probably sign him up for one anyway and let him use it for a while.

I would really love if SE would implement game cards to pay for ffxi, I am forced to quit because I don't have a method of paying for it atm, I cant use my dads credit card and its impossible to obtain my own since I'm only 16 and I cannot use a debit visa because they are not available in Canada. Also there is no reasonable prepaid credit card here.

They don't sell FFXI-specific cards because the monthly fee is variable, and because they accept VISA and MasterCard, which already offer prepaid versions of their cards. You either use a real credit card, a CheckCard linked to your bank account, or a prepaid card to pay for the game. VISA and MasterCard offer all three types. Thus it's pointless for Square to expend the resourced and effort to release game-specific cards when you can just use a prepaid card, know what your monthly fee is based on what services you use in PlayOnline, and charge it with a multiple of that amount.

Pointless may be taking it a bit far, but there certainly are better things for SE to spend their resources on. WoW's gift cards are for a dollar amount rather than a set # of months, and it works very well for those who don't want to have a credit or debit card, or whose parents won't allow them to have one.

I'm not sure if you like paying $100 a year just to pay for FFXI but i dont.

If your not in the US and do not have a credit card its very hard to pay for the game, I wouldn't say prepaid game cards are pointless, also its more convenient for some people even if you have access to a credit card. Sure you can say the Canadian population playing FFXI is very minimal but if your not going to support us don't release it here, save me the frustration of leveling to 71 and then not being able to do endgame.

                    Re: FFXI Gift Card

My experience with the prepaid VISA cards is that it's about $5 each time to charge them, and then the money stays there until you use it, so I don't see how you'd spend an extra $100 a year unless you were recharging the card every month, instead of charging it for a year or so worth of gameplay at a time.

As for the age of majority thing, IIRC the Japanese version doesn't let you play unless you are 20 years of age. I had thought the ability to play as low as 13 years of age was something unique to the US version. Even in that case, there should be an adult around to approve activation of your account, and they are supposed to provide the payment method. If you actually haev income at that age, you should be paying them for use of the payment method. Otherwise, you shouldn't be playing until you are an adult.

The problem with not having a Canadian release is that the US and Canada are considered the same gaming region. It's hard to not have retailers pick up a game designated for that region. Since the billing is only in USD for American accounts, that does tend to imply that they are going by American standards for what billing options are available. If you want more billing options, like debit, added like Europe finally got available for their accounts, try organizing a bunch of Canadians that play the game to point out to Square that the available payment options for US accounts are much more limited in Canada.

I'm still sort of surprised that, given the amount of advertising I see for VISA CheckCards, they aren't available in Canada from any source. I've had one for almost 10 years now, and you'd think they would have implemented them in other countries in that time.

                      Re: FFXI Gift Card

In Canada there are only limited prepaid credit card options atm, and where I live you can only get a few brands which are all made by the same company and have the same general fees of $20 set up then $5/month maintenance fee plus $2 load fee. Theres a cheaper option in British Columbia but I live in Ontario and there is no way of me getting that.
I know there was a Canadian release of the game and just not using the us version because my copy had a french manual in it and up to the point where you register POL you can get the text in french. I would of seen if there are any other Canadian ffxi players in the same situation as me but I already bought 3 months of WoW so I'm going to be playing that until the situation gets better and I can play ffxi again. Hopefuly they fix the game when I can come back
