What to do with my account?

I'm quitting FFXI. I love the community, but the game has become old and dull for me. I've moved on.

Anyway, i'm wondering what you all are planning to do with your accounts? I figure I can auction off my shit for cheap in Jeuno or Aht Urhgan, and distribute the gil amongst my friends, but what do I do with my RA/EX items, and character itself? I'd really rather not sell it (especially considering i'd get crap money anyway), but I don't want it to go to waste. I've basically been off for half a year, and i'm not returning, so the whole "Well just deactivate content IDs and keep everything else" doesn't matter too much, except keeping my account for the occasional POL message (although i've got nothing but POL mails and spam in the past few months)

So what can I do that my time and items won't go to waste? I can't think of any of my friends that would have any use with my account, and no one I know would like to have a character with a moogle rod.

What would you do, FFXIO?

I don't have a good answer for you, but I'm still sorry to see you go.

For me, I love the game, but the community is like, working my last nerve right now. So it's like the opposite.

Give your stuff away, let the character fade. You're moving on, you won't care. No one else will either, except the friends you've made who will remember you (unless you sell the character, in which case they'lll probably have a bad taste in their mouths over the memory, but that's a separate issue).

I do care about the character, because I hate to see it get wasted. Not so much the levels as the RA/EX, particularly Moogle Rod and Chocobo Wand.

I can't think on anything either, in the end all our characters will return to the Matrix, I mean they will just be deleted.

Do whatever gives you the best closure, if you ever find out what that is. I guess...

I'll just cancel and say goodbye to my friends. Ask their e-mail and keep in touch.

I'll never let anyone touch my character. Not even after I've quit.

This was easier to answer when I played Everquest. Back when I quit that, I just sold some of the equipment I would never be using again to other players, and used the money to buy a crapload of virtual beer. Then, I went back to where I started the game and handed a stack of it to every single player who passed me with the words: "Hey, I'm quitting the game today, have a beer on me." For almost an hour, there wasn't a single player in Ak'Anon who could walk a straight line thanks to me.

This game makes that a bit more difficult since we lack virtual alcohol for players to mess with. What I'd suggest though is throwing a big going away party for yourself. Sure, as Icemage said no one will remember you much beyond when you leave, but at least you'll have a good time lighting off fireworks for a solid hour or so.

Give your things to the friends who need a helping hand the most.

After that, cancel your character but by golly, don't cancel your POL account. You never know if you'll wanna come back some day.

Sorry to see you're leaving FFXI.

If you're trying to give as much away as possible to friends...Buy up whatever non-EX CP items you can and AH or give those away, too.

But just in case you come back...don't drop any EX items. Just leave them on the character. SE will probably store the character for a really long time. And don't lose or burn your registration information...just in case. ^^

edit: As to what I'll do with my character...hmm...I'll probably keep playing until SE shuts down their servers or they start charging a monthly fee equivalent to my health insurance.

Heh, I couldn't lose my account info if I wanted to, it's burned into my head. Kinda sad, I know my POL user ID and pass, but I don't have a clue what my own SS# is.

I wouldn't sell your account to an RMT, that's for sure. Last thing we need is yet another instant high level bank account to ruin the game another 5% more.

What I'd do is just delete it. Completely deleting the characters. Possibly even the POL ID, since NA SE's useless POL venture haven't brought anything beyond FFXI other than a crappy card game.

Ya I'd say deletion. If the game is dull and old, like you say it is, then there shouldn't be much issue with the simple and quick deletion of your character.

And besides, won't it feel cool when you click the delete character command, and watch as hundreds of irreplacable hours of your life simply just... disappear?

Hell, I don't even know you Feba and I just got sad. Like a friend moving away or something. Anyway, when you do quit, what game (if any) are you going to? What are your plans to do with all this massive amount of extra time you will soon have? It's like winning the "Time Lottery" or something...

When I left EQ1 a long time ago to come to FFXI, I gave out all my currency and gear and deleted. It pretty much remedied any chance of my ever wanting to go back.

When I "left" FFXI two years ago, I gave nearly all my gear and currency away but not delete. I wound up coming back. I'm kind of glad that I didn't delete or RMT my account or anything.

But if you really want to ensure that you won't come back, deletion is the way the go. I wouldn't give your account to someone you met online. I've seen that turn disastrous on a few occasions. I know people that "lent" their accounts to others and then want to come back but have been told, "Too bad, its mine now."
