  • FFXI is ruining my life

Seriously I'm addicted. I wake up, I eat breakfast, I play FFXI for a few hours, I eat dinner, I play some more FFXI, I watch some TV, then I play more FFXI My school works is suffering, I can't concentrate. I just sit there wondering how many mobs I can kill to get to the next lvl. What other spells I could get to make my WHM/RDM better, and where I could get more Gil.
I know we've all heard of World of Warcrack, but what about Final Ecstasy XI?

Just keep in mind, you probably wont be playing any FFXI if you fail out of school or have a heart attack from lack of excersize. FFXI will still be there when you get back, don't let your life suffer for a game because you'll regret it later.

      Hang in there!

Re: FFXI is ruining my life

I generally take a month off to break the habits whenever I feel like I'm getting too into it. It's tough to balance with your real responsibilities and activities, especially if you sign up for too much endgame or there's something about your life that makes it tempting to escape. People compare it to drugs a lot, but anything that makes you happy has the potential to be abused to the point of being unhealthy, even working or eating. You just have to force yourself to be sane about it and never let one thing completely dominate your lifestyle or thought patterns.

A friend of mine told me once when the disclaimer that you see before you login isn't funny anymore, it's time to quit.

I only got the game a month ago. I'm still on my free trial for **** sake!
I ain't quitting, but I suppose I could try and tone it down. Maybe....only 8 hours of playtime everyday?

8 hours a day? Yeah I'd say you need to cut back. Don't spend more time in game than you do at work, or at school, or asleep.

                I agree.

I try not to spend more than 6 hours a day at most unless I'm doing something that would require it like a Mission. I usually only play about 4-5 hours a day and I don't play everyday.

Re: FFXI is ruining my life

My advice is to force yourself to take a break for several days. When I first got FFXI, I couldn't think about anything else, either. My husband was not very happy with my obsession, and I realized it was straining our relationship. That was my reason for taking a break. I didn't play for three days, and after the first day, my burning desire to be online was decreased. The following days weren't very hard at all. Lately, I usually play for 2-6 hours per day, depending on if its the weekend, or if I'm home alone while hubby is at work, but I don't have that "MUST PLAY" feeling anymore.

The game will always be there for you, but life passes by no matter what you are doing.

I know what you mean, i just got the game a month ago, and a couiple days ago i set up 12 hours and played...with an hour break to eat. Im trying to balance other things into such as my girlfriend and work. At work i stay on this site...(but i still get my job done) But it is hard...very hard. I never thought i would be this much into the game.. but i love it. I believe one of the main reasons im so obsessed is because once your logged in, your in a whole new world, it gives me a chance to escape. I love it.

hmm yea I suppose. But just think, if I'm playing this so much for free, what will I be like when I'm actually paying?

Eh, you can also consider the game is still new to you.

I don't know about you, but when I get a brand new game, I tend to play it a lot. If after a few months you still feel this way, then worry about it. ^^

I miss those days of doing nothing but playing FFXI.

I suppose it might be normal, but only insofar as you move on after a while.
