  • Gil selling/buying e-mail scam?

First of all, how the hell did they get my e-mail address? And why do they think I want to sell them gil?

This is virgoods.I am Emma, from virgoods.

We think you are a good player in FFXI. So we hope we can buy gils from you. Can you contact with me if you have time? It¡¯s my pleasure if you can reply to me.

    My MSN: bigbirdstan@hotmail.com
    My Yahoo:bigbirstan@yahoo.com
    My AIM: virgoodsffxi
    Sincerely yours,

    Virgoods FFXI Team
This has me puzzled and rather bothered, I mean it would be one thing if they were trying to sell me gil, but they're trying to buy it from me? O.O I've never once indicated anywhere that I had anything to do with people who buy and/or sell gil, so like, WTF?

Joke's on them, though, after some of my more recent purchases, between all four of my characters I have less than 200k gil.

LOL. Thats funny, maybe it's either a joke a friend played on you or they were a few letters off from who they meant to email, or something. Either way, you should email back and set up something and get them all excited and not show up.

Well I can rule out that it might be a friend because I don't have any friends who play FFXI except my husband, and I know he didn't do that anyway. So it makes me wonder if they found my e-mail address from a site I go to, I mean I don't think I share it with everyone but maybe somehow they got it from another site I'm registered on.

Anyway it's just junk and to the junk mail folder it went, but it's still really stupid.

Did it get sent directly to your email address, or "care of" another place? For instance, FFXIOnline has a "send email to" option, but it can be disabled in your User Control Panel. Other forums and sites have similar setups, you might check your user settings on the sites you visit to be sure.

No, it was direct. I'll look into it.

They've always done this, I wouldn't take it as a sign that they're getting too desperate.

Oh, I'd just never seen it before. At any rate, it was just spam anyway ... I'm not even sure why I bothered to open it.

It's like a trainwreck. You don't want to see it, but you can't look away.

They send them to your IN-GAME inbox in WoW.

                    Kinda sad, really.

Roffles, I got one of those a few days ago. I just laughed as I deleted it.

Yeah I've been getting e-mails and IMs from them for a few weeks now. Its really stupid and i'm currently trying to figure out how they find out our e-mails...I know IGE does the same thing and they get your e-mail from KI or ALLA's member database...I'm guessing IGE shares that info.
