No one ever mentions Guild Wars in these things. GW looks spectacular and has some of the best cinematics of any MMO I have seen.

<.<; *adds this to his list of WoW sucks in order to make ppl from school quit it* >.>; Anyways, a few weeks ago i went on wikipedia and read up on wow, there is a ton of stuff they "barrowed" from in order to make their game as far as names, designs and ideas. More or less, WoW is just a cheap imitation of real MMO.

I haven't talked about Guild Wars because I have little knowledge of it. The uniqueness it has standing out for it is I hear the mobs have weaknesses that allow players to exploit. The weaknesses are intentional and controlled by some sort of mechanics, this helps give even low level players a chance to defeate monsters way bigger then they are if they are skilled enough to recognize the weaknesses and properly exploit them.

Outside of that I know little of it, not sure of equipment and anything special they've done with it, what missions/quests are like, or anything... Don't even know if it's a seamless world or not.

I haven't mentioned GW because my only experience of it is from the beta, which I didn't enjoy. Plus, it toes an odd line, being a "free" MMO, and thus an entirely different system from the ones I'm used to. I don't know enough about it to bash or praise, to be honest.

Very little, especially in the world of medieval fantasy is original. It's all borrowed from something (generally Tolkien, although even his ideas were mostly borrowed from mythology and folk songs), so why single out one game as being a dirty copycat, when they are all guilty?

Oh, yea. GW def. copies other ideas. I'll admit that, it's obvious. But it's not in a shame-less way. The game takes an idea and makes it something new. That's nothing special. But I think that way that it makes a player really think about how they are playing is key. In GW the way things go, are based on "builds" you have a huge list of skills and spells to choose from and you make your player completely unique. You can even buy dye to color your armor for an even more signature look. The basis of the game is center around PvP so the game is no where near as vast as FFXI, but the player vs. player interaction makes for some really great competition and awesomely thought out strats. It's a fast past mid bender... If only it wasn't capped at lvl 20 >.<

Is that image really a good representation of WoW art? Ugh. It's funny, everyone I've talked to about WoW has raved about the colorful, stylish graphics (I've never played it, or even seen screenies til today). That image is not my idea of stylish graphics. I think I'll stick with my beloved FFXI.

Oh, and I don't think that Blizzard is infringing on SE. The concept of riding large birds has been around for a long time.

Add this to the fact that I've never really liked the PC/DnD style RPG genre games and there's plenty of stuff for me to rag on XD
                    1. Almost 7 million subscribers is going to have a higher number of idiots than a game with 500,000 even if the ratio of idiots to average players remains static.

                    2. Unless you have made it to 60, earned your zone flags for Ony, MC, BWL, and Naxx and raided successfully in those zones after many months of mastering the encounters then you should really shut the fuck up and refrain from making yourself look like you're an idiot commenting on something you have no damned knowledge of.

                    3. Where is it touted as a beginner's/casual MMO? Whilst levelling may be done solo and is significantly more accessible to people without 5-8 hours to waste looking for group once you reach max level and start raiding most casuals/beginners usually roll a new class participate in PvP or grind rep for additional gear rewards.

                    4. Have you experienced all content the game has to offer across all level ranges for each race on both Alliance and Horde side? If you haven't then once again kindly close your mouth and sit on your hands.

Yeah, that one to me is kind of a bit flattering to how it really looks. Game is like Toon Town Online turned into a twisted design... graphics wise anyway. Personally I laugh when people say WoW is stylish graphics. It's pretty pathetic because even EQs new race (Drakkens) are far better designed just looking at the base model, and that's from a game years older then WoW and FFXI.

As far as art and graphics I'd classify it:
                        WoW (Lowest)
                        EQ
                        EQ2
                        FFXI/Lineage II (Highest)

Though I might put Lineage II more above FFXI because of the work they did, the transparencies and cell shadings it does are quite impressive.

This existed in WOW before FFXI. SE added this feature in their CoP expansion and WOW was already in beta stages with their gear sets in beta. In other words, this alone shows that SE also mimics other companies.

In short, I don't see what the big deal about this is. Besieged was added after SE took a look at Lineage. I don't see anyone here bitching and whining about that. ToAU has borrowed so many elements from current running MMORPGs, it's not even funny...

This is the dumbest thread I've seen in a long time here. No, they are not copying off the Final Fantasy series. The Blood Elves, at least thats who I think has the mount, have mounts who are bird based, like a flying Phoenix. However, in WoW, flying mounts come much later. So what do you do? Riding a bird that can walk fast, not fly.

The entire Final Fantasy series has done little more than reinvision thousands of mythological and real life concepts. Nothing comes to mind of what they've actually created from raw imagination. Not even tonberries. The most popular traits of FF might have came from the fact it was a limited version of Dungeon and Dragons for NES.

                            PS.

                            It goes both ways.

Besieged was added after SE took a look at Lineage.
Lineage did not create the idea of a settlement of some kind being attacked by an enemy faction. This has been around since the dawn of man. SE could of you know... lived on earth, and decided that they want to have wars in FFXI. A 5 year old boy from the 1800s has the potential to 'create' the basics of Besieged.

WoW art is really a polar opposite of FFXI. Where FFXI is very realistic with fairly muted colours WoW leans towards a more overly fantastic feel with very vibrant, and sometimes sense-assaulting, colours.

Here is a listing of existing WoW mounts. I seem to recall the same hysteria over the mechanostriders being rip-offs of chocobos over two years ago. To be fair, whilst I agree the mount looks similar to a chocobo they've pretty much covered every other kind of riding beast so far and a riding bird was inevitable. The big difference with this is the player will be able to buy one and use it whenever they choose for as long as they want without having to visit a town or crag.

Like I said which you cut out. I've seen this concept done on a MUD called IceAge which I played back in 1994-1999, way before either one of them ever did it.
