But...Gnomes have a metal Chocobo-like thing already. And I've seen plenty of emu-like mounts in games, TV, all sorts of stuff. I dun think its a huge deal.

I love how all of you automatically assume that if anyone rides a bird in a viedogame, that they MUST be ripping off FF. Heck, would you say anything about a Dragon that you could ride in FF? Would it be a rip-off of L2?(Lineage II)

I have played so many MMOs, and i have to say FFXI is my current, past, and probably future favorite because i dont think you can ever FINISH it (part of the whole MMO thing, but i have done almost everything in WoW.. Twice might i add)

in WoW, Eveyone has the chance to buy a mount, like a chocobo, but can be called out in the field at any time(out of combat that is) dismissed and immediatly re-called.

Each race has a race-specific mount, and the Bloodelves ( the fellow you see in that screenshot) are a new race, with a Pheonix i believe is what they call it, for a mount.

Now that i hace said that, how many ideas in FFXI came from EQ, i know a good bit of the original playerbase did, because i got this game the first day of US release. I am a very casual FFXI player, my highest class being 45, but i dont run around going "OMG FFXI SUCKS" when i am in wow, just like when i am in FFXI i dont run around going "OMFG U GUYS SHOULDNT PLAY WOW CAUSE ITS AN AMERICAN GAME".

Seriously, stop comparing, both are great in thier own right.

I don't think there's any reason to get so bothered....but right after a release of it on FF, it seems as though WoW is taking the same path...@_@ Man, it's really not a big deal...x_x; I just don't like WoW on top of it...so I'd make fun of it when there's an opportunity to do so >_> No one runs around saying the stuff that you said...at least not when I play. :x

This has nothing to do with FFXI vs WoW in anyway, it's just their new mount looks just like a watered down chocobo with uglier colors. Say what you will, but they do look oddly similar.

As far as FFXI taking things from EQ...I really don't see it. Loads of EQ players did switch to FFXI, but I think it was mostly because FFXI was new and Everquest had been out for years. Most of them didn't like it and ended up going back to EQ anyways. Although, WoW is a game that's heavily influenced by Everquest.

Take a look at the overall graphics of FFXI vs WoW. WoW may have a newer engine capable of more but who cares if what we see looks like Looney Tunes. There is no refinement there is no art.

FFXI seems to me to have a refined color palette. The designers of FFXI always seek to make things fit in to the world they have created.They take an idea and bring it to conclusion, whereas WoW has always seemed to me it takes it's ideas and gets them to the good enough stage and then they are done and onto the next thing.

In it's simplest terms

FFXI = Esthetic design philosophy
Wow = utilitarian design philosophy
