  • My very first party experience

Last night, I started out as a lvl 10 RDM in San d'Oria. I went to Ghelsba for an hour or so, I got myself up to lvl 11.
I went back into the city and started looking for a party. Luckily, a lvl 10 WAR came and helped me out. We both went to La Thiene Plateu and began to get XP. It was good. Wed had a good time. Although we had to continually stop to heal (I had RDM, but still not as good as WHM) but we did alright. I was about 900XP off lvl 12.
Then we both died it kind of sucked lol. So, we went back up to the city, he (i'm pretty happy about this) actually just turned around and handed me 20,000 Gil. I was like wtf . It turns out he had a lvl 75 THF
Anyway, so he went to a shop to buy a LS while I stayed back and looked for a WHM. I was looking for like 10 minutes when another WAR approached me to join his party. So myself and the other guy I was PTing with joined his party. We had 2 WHM's, 2 RDM's, a WAR, and a PLD/WAR. We just started to XP back in La Thiene Plataeu.
After about half an hour, we decided to go to Valkrum Dunes. That place is amazing! I got amazing XP. Each kill we got well over 130xp each (most I've ever gotten was 72). So I got myself up to lvl 12.
Unfortunately, one of the WHM's died. He got a friend of revive him and he left our party so he could solo up to 11
So we left the Valkrum Dunes and began to XP in La Thiene Plataeu. Our entire party got wiped out by one tough Orc the 2 WARs died, and everyone else was really low on health. 2 guys zoned, and me being the dumass that I am, I ran the wrong way
I got killed by the Orc, but I had a Scroll of Instant Reraise
So after 15 minutes, we managed to group back together. Over time, people began to leave and we got new people. But thankfully, before we disbanded, I managed to get to lvl 13
Altogether, I played that game from 12am until 7am (my time). 7 hours straight! I couldn't believe it. Just the day before I was thinking about letting this game go.

I just want to say to all the low lvls, do NOT give up! It may suck when you're soloing, but when you get in a PT, you will have a great time!
Now, I'm gonna cross my fingers and hope for lvl 15 tonight

I was exactly like you. I was thinking about quitting when I was around level 7...
I'm glad that I didn't do it though, this game has been great (and still is). Once you get into a PT, the game will be much more fun than soloing. Too bad that a lot of players quit before even getting to Dunes, they're missing a great game...

Thanks for your post , reminded me of some of my memories when I started to play.

I would say, next time, avoid the Instant Reraise scroll at low level. It takes very little time to recover your XP and you can use your Conquest Points to Recharge/Buy your Empress Band or get an Instant Warp scroll for when you're ready to stop XPing and go home or if you need a quick [read: slow] Get-out-of-death free card. Since you're new, saving CP can also allow you to get nicer equipment without massive gil farming. Some of the items you can get from lower rank CP are quite nice and most players can solo/duo a good portion of the low-rank Missions.

The first 10 levels are a major bore fest. Even after having higher level characters, going back on any other job is hard, although its easier than the first time you do it. Alot of people up and quit before ever hitting level 10, missing out on alot.

          Thanks for your replis guys.
Hey hey! lvl 16!! w00t! I would have gotten higher, but I had kind of a bad experience with some parties. They kept standing around and not doing anything
I'm still happy about it though. I'm almost 17.
btw, I have a few questions here:
          1) Is there any way to get a signet in Valkrum Dunes?

          2) If I'm in Valkrum Dunes, can I get back to San d'Oria without walking the whole way? Even if I don't have a Warp Scroll?

You'll always have to walk unless you have:

            1) A Warp Scroll
            2) A friendly BLM to Warp II you
            3) A friendly WHM to Teleport you (presumably to Holla since you're San d'Orian) which is not so great.
            4) The Warp Spell (BLM17)
            5) A Chocobo License can get you a chocobo at a crag if you're 20th level
            6) A Chocobo Whistle can get you a chocobo in the middle of nowhere (Valkurm) but it takes at least 30 days to get a ridable chocobo depending upon when you find the Dirty Hankerchief.
            7) Use a bloodport (aka Death Warp). Believe it or not, there are some areas where this is actually considered an appropriate form of transportation. These are generally lower level areas such as Valkurm, Qufim, and Kazham. This form of "transportation" is generally only used when one cannot safely escape the zone or you're really really in a hurry.

yeah ok I guess I'll just use Warp Scrolls then
btw are Return Rings etc. re-usable? I know they do basically the same as Warp Scroll, but can you use them over and over again? Because if you can, then I might as well save up enough CP points and buy it.

Re: My very first party experience

I think the return ring is for outpost warps.. The ring has X uses before you need to buy a new one

Get 1k Conquest points to get the XP ring. The ring will get you 50% more xp each kill, till you got 2k XP or 3hrs are up on it. You can use the ring 7 times before you need to turn it in to the gate guard to renew it for x number of CP( if you uses all 7 times, it will cost you 700CP to refill it).

To get signet from the Valkrum Dunes your nation has to be wining the region on the new week. To check, go in your menu then go to region then Conquest. That will open a new window, you will see nations flags, and if your nation flag is in the region, you can renew your signet at the outpost guard..

                  Thanks for that man.
Yeah I got a message popping up every once in a while, telling me my region has a Major influence in the Valkrum Dunes, while Bastok has Minor, and Windurst Minimal.
Anyway, I'm about to go back on now, so I'm not gonna get off until I hit 20

Re: My very first party experience

I have a Return Ring and a Homing Ring as Moogle prizes from some festival. They are definitely not worth spending CP on. First, you have to deliver supplies to the region you want to teleport in. You can only teleport to the outpost that is in the region you are currently standing in (e.g. Zulkheim) and you may only teleport when your nation is in control of the region. These rings are very limited and occasionally get passed out as Moogle Event prizes, so just wait and you can play with one eventually. If you do buy one, the Return is cheaper, but the Homing is more bang for your buck.

Good listing I just wanted to interject if you run the supply quest to the dunes you can teleport to your home nation once you hit level 20 as long as beastman don't control the area under nation control. Cost will vary on if your nation or another controls the region. (Usually I finish up in the dunes rather than walking to bastok for the tunnel if I'm still in a pt since you lose so much xp time walking if the pt is going good).

The overall utility of these rings is inversely proportional to how often you solo, I find. As a SMN who really doesn't enjoy TP burning for exp at 71, I often find myself in place where no reasonably sane player would want to be. Like the bottom of Ifrit's Cauldron, the summit of Ulegrande Range while Jorgy is spawned, Ru'Aun Gardens, etc. In these situations, I find the ring a very handy thing to have with me. If I'm in Ru'Aun Gardens, for instance, all I need to do is zone back into Hall of the Gods, pop my ring, and BAM! I'm done with that annoying trek through Ro'Maeve's magical detection mob-fest. It also drops me conveniently at the nearest OP, which I can then use to warp back to my hometown for resupplying. I'm also fairly cheap, meaning I'm almost always soloing in a zone my home nation already controls.
