Something new with odin/alexander

First of all, to the mods, if this has been posted before please delete this thread, but seeing has I haven't seen any threads about the picture I've discovered, and the fact that it's hard to search on odin and alexander w/o getting all the server forums, I allow myself to post this.

After the recent update I checked altanaview and found this picture:



A painting of The Dark Rider(Odin) trying to destroy a white castle(Alexander).

What surprises me is the fact that this is a NPC, not an item, and I haven't seen it before now.

The .dat of the painting is ROM4\1\118.DAT

In my opinion it shows a battle between Odin and Alexander, judge yourself, and I haven't seen any refrences in or out of game to this painting.

Edit:

Took a better look at the flames and saw that it isn't the ground that's on fire, it's a town.

Also, the shape of the Dark Riders spear confirms that it is him, or his twin.

Regarding the castle, it reminds me of Alexander in FFVII with the 2 front towers which was shown on the FFVII version

Alexander = Imperial Ward?

Odin = leader of the AZ beastmen? Or even siding with the empress?

I can't see either of them being summons though... an avatar with instant death... or an avatar who is a giant castle?

That's just a little OTT, really. Diabolos was bad enough, having the king of dynamis in your back pocket is cool and all but it doesn't really fit into the story :|

Odin isn't the leader of the beastmen, in fact during the story you hear of how a Dark Rider was spotted in the Woods fighting against the beastmen(during the assault rankup missions), and that Odin is from the Underworld which looks very much like the image in the painting above.

You also learn why Cerberus is on the loose, you learn who is responsible for the production of chimaera. It's not a bad story, but I have a feeling we'll find ourselves fighting against Odin in one point only to find out Odin isn't the bad guy here, he's trying to fight against the same thing we are only he has some insider information(sounds alot like how Diabolos ended up).

Considering the ambiguity of the story and, as of yet, the lack of understanding that we have of:

a) The Empress
b) The Astral Candescence
c) The Beastmen's motives
d) What Alexander is
e) Odin's motives, considering he's supposedly evil (and therefore wouldn't be on our side?)

You can't say for sure.

Making Odin a good guy would be pretty... strange, really. Because he's not. Really, the dude's a nasty piece of work.

Luzaf owns this painting. You see it in the final CS for the currently available missions (after you get the 5 gold pieces from Shantotto).

It looks like the burning town underneith them is the ancient Olduum civilzation. It could be that they perished during this fight between Odin and Alexander. Also, take a gooood look at the top of Alexander's towers. Not the lightning bolts, but the towers themselves. Does that happen to look familiar?

What I mean is, the top half of those towers look exactly like the towers of Alzadaal that can be seen from those viewing windows inside the ruins. I think that each of the Remnant areas is one of Alexander's towers, and Nyzul Isle is the main portion of his body.

@ Legal Fish: You'd be surprised how many people are still on Knight of Gold. There's a rush now to clear Black Coffin because of Salvage, but not many people care about the Shantotto chapter. I'm surprised nobody had already posted about this. I just joined this forum a few days ago so I have an excuse for not saying anything about it until now

Shame, really. The Shantotto is probably the best part of Final Fantasy XI I've ever enjoyed.

Stop being lazy, I don't care how low level you are, make some high level friends.

I'd have to agree, the Shantotto portion is rather enjoyable. I'm looking forward to who the Bastokan Ambassador could possibly be, and there is still a chance that Jeuno will want to get involved as well (like always).

Though, I'm more interested as to when the story will focus, if at all, on the war being waged just off the map to the East. Tenzen will undoubtably become a recurring character if that comes to pass, to be sure.

The war is actually farther away than that. Remember, this is only the western half of the Aht Urhgan Empire. The eastern half should, being that it's a half, be just as big, and then the Far East (where Tenzen is from) is even farther away than that. I think we can expect a solid 2 expansions worth of content to fill out the rest of the East.
