and i have to add that i love the idea of farming/woodlogging/mining too

any suggestions on wich monsters to kill at first as well? and which side jobs brings in a lot of gill?

and finally whats a GOOD server with nice people in it for me to join

I dont know about any ToAU jobs but Beastmaster is the only job that can really solo passed like... 30? That's a very 'liberal' number. But because they can and usually solo, people wrongly assume they aren't good in parties. Once you get to around 10, with any job(excluding ToAU jobs) but BST, you'll most likely start partying.

You should start killing the mobs right outside your starting town. ;p Windurst would be the best place to start if you want to farm, Sandy for logging, and Bastok for mining.

If by 'side jobs' your mean quests, then in the beginning none do really. Missions will get your better money, sometimes. Each time you go up a rank(2 or 3 missions) you get some gils. Starting at 1k and ascending to... erm... 100k(?). But only the first couple ranks you can do in the beginning. Quests will start having better rewards as you go up in level.

If by 'side jobs' you mean like mining and farming and such, then all the ones you listed can give a consistant cash flow. Crafting has it's ups and downs. When you first start it will be a down. ;p But once you get some decent gils, it wont be as harsh to you. IMO, farming/mining/etc is much more practical then camping Notorious Monsters(NM) but you wont be doing that until your higher in level. It's more practical, IMO, because, as I said, the cash is consistent, instead of being lucky enough to claim the NM and get the drop, you just kill normal mobs and get normal drops. ;p

You can't pick a server when you begin. You need to make a character, delete, repeat until you get on the server you want, or just have someone get a worldpass for you. I played most of my time on Sylph and like a few days on Gilgamesh. I enjoyed both but I didnt stay long enough on Gilgee to meet anyone. The people on Sylph, that I met, were mostly nice but there were some bad seeds. I'd think it's the same for every server.

For starters most races work fine for most of the jobs. The most obvious difference you'll see though is the races difference of HP and MP. Galka's have the highest HP but also the lowest MP, Taru's have the Highest MP and the lowest HP.

Aside from that difference many of the other stat differences are going to be of minor influence. Even then there are some successful Galka mages as well as successful Taru PLDs.

As far as job choices you'll get at start it's only 6 (Warrior, Thief, Monk, White Mage, Black Mage, Red Mage). Once you reach lv. 30 you can do quests to open up many more jobs.

As for soloing the job players know the most for on soloability is Beastmaster, effecient for soloing with having White Mage as sub. Though BSTs capability to solo has been effected by previous updates and even still soloing with them is not as easy as just getting a party.

As for server unless you get this magic code known as a "World Pass" from someone on that specific server then don't expect to get to a server of your choice. The game will determine which server needs more players and stick you there. For the most part all the servers are fairly even in popularity and is quite a mix of people, so any one you land is likely to be similar to another with the exception of the economy.

No, Beastmaster is not the only job that can solo past 30. There is lists that show best areas that also give RNGs the capacity to solo all the way to 75 as well. BSTs are just better known for that they have a larger choice of things that let them reach 75 solo. By no means though is soloing to 75 easy for any job, but the potential is there with the right mobs. Then once you hit 60+ there are more options that let any job solo for a decent amount of exp once every 5 days.

A close friend of mine soloed to 46 on his Monk, so I know it's possible, I just meant, like, practical levelling, ya know? It's possible but not practical.

And to add, I soloed my 2nd char to lvl19 in just Sarubaruta(sp?). I farmed a lot[/understatement]. I'd imagine you could continue into Tahrogi(sp?) and get up to 30 just there. But it would take a loooong time.

BST soloing is hardly as practical either. Put against a party the BST would do better EXP wise in a good party then he would alone. So it isn't practical for BST either. It's just more accepted because BSTs are capable of a larger variety that they can in-effeciently EXP on compaired to other jobs.

Well my BST was like... 5. So I assumed it was practical since the community feels it is. :D

Got BST to 30, it wasn't any easier then getting RNG to 30. There was however more options of mobs I can use, were RNG was a lot more limited. Still by no means was it easy and only took 1 bad event to turn a barely working method into a complete dissaster (Exactly the same as RNG had). Just 1 bad charm can change outcomes drastically.

Soloing is not an easy thing to do with many jobs on this game, this is built around parties. If you don't party it's still possible to reach 75, but options on mobs you can kill varry greatly between jobs and in many situations only takes 1 bad event to turn it all bad and lose hours of effort in just 1 death. BLU's however seem like they could have a better capacity even still for them it's more pratical to party then solo.

The one wanted by parties the most frequently has got to be Bard. After them it's like NINs, BLMs, WHMs, RDMs, RNGs, SMNs, DRKs, and so on down the line.

                  So be something like:

                  BRD

NIN (Most) | PLD (fair - low amount)

RDM | WHM | BLM | SMN (sort of in that order going left to right)

RNG | DRK | MNK | SAM | DRG (again sort of in that order left to right)

                  THF | DRG

Not really exact and by opinion which is were can change, since this is a pretty relative question.

I believe all servers have the same. I'm on the Phoenix server, and there are alot of helpful people.
One lvl 20 guy went out of his way to help me do a mission (King Ranperre's Tomb) and all he wanted in return was a few crystals (very easy to get).
If you want, I could buy you a WorldPass for Phoenix. Although, I will have to wait until 7am GMT because XBox Live is coming out with an update, so it's down right now.

Many jobs have their soloing levels. Summoners and Beastmasters can solo bombs by sending their pet to a death by explosion. When Black Mage hits the 50s, and gets access to ancient magic, they can one shot Beastmaster pets easily. Blue Mages have also gotten on the BST pet bandwagon, but I'm not sure what they do exactly.

I'd assume that Puppetmasters could get experience points by sending their puppets to a death by bomb explosion, but the recast timer on Activate is what, 20 minutes? One kill per 20 minutes doesn't sound like good exp.

Ninja is also a expensive job to level, probably the most. Looking for a job thats wants invites, BRD is the best, I'll put RDM second (least on midgar theres never a RDM)

When it comes to starting out new, I always suggest to people that they try each of the starting jobs to at least 20. By that time, they have the basic idea of how those types of jobs works and can choose their main job based off their experiences.

ah thanks, so i guess i will try the ninja path. are ninjas good at soloing too? what side job can i take on for the ninja?

Ninjas are good at soloing but it will cost gil for tools to do so. For party purposes, WAR is the most preffered subjob for a NIN for tanking. I have met a very rare few NIN who would sub something else in lower levels so they could be DD instead but most look down on this. When soloing, you can sub whatever you feel like.

One more suggestion. If you choose to go Melee only, I strongly suggest leveling THF, MNK and WAR to 37 to use as alternate subjobs on the chance you find some other advanced melee jobs that pique your interest.
