And of course, for some people, the end justifies the mean. (RMT, hackers, gil buyers, etc.)

Re: Does anyone else feel like they're playing just the tip of the iceberg...?

I was reading this post, and it reminded me so much of myself that I have to reply to it I played for about 2 years before I finally got my blm up to level 74. I had so much fun partying. I would talk to people in game, and they would complain about having to party. But for me, it was fun. I loved each time I got a new spell, and seeing the damage that it would do. I loved saving the party by sleeping something. Or tossing out cures. Or this one time where the whole party died and I was out of magic, no 2 hr, and I beat it to death with my staff. And actually won! When I finally got to lv 74 and rank 9, I stopped having fun. People started pressuring me to do end game stuff. I did sky and Dynamis. And I loved it at first--it was fun to see the Gods and fight everything. But then people just started getting on my nerves saying that I *had* to be at every event. I would want to craft (was working on fishing) or do missions or help friends, and my LS would yell at me for not going to sky. I also missed being able to level my blm. I couldn't find normal parties anymore. I have no interest in manaburn, and soloing is kinda boring to me. I ended up quitting. It's been 8 months since I quit. I'm thinking of starting over again though, with a new character. Probably blm again since I loved it so much. And I have no interest to get to endgame. I want to be high enough to travel around safely, but I want to take my time and see the rest of the game.

          /cheer Angule!!!

I couldn't have said it any better myself! Half the fun is getting there, so why rush! I work all day and have no intention of "working" when I log on to play!

We're all perpetual noobs, it's ok!

I just hit 87 days of play time, myself. But my "journey" was different. I took WAR to 26, and quit for a year (but kept paying for some reason >.>). I tried just about every MMORPG that interested me. And in time, ending with a 2 week stint in WoW, I realized FFXI was for me.

I came back and took WHM to 61 and got what I needed to level SMN to 72, where it is now. I've been doing Dynamis and have my first piece of relic armor and managed to get an "Astral Signa". I'm starting to feel like a true summoner, and endgame is fun. Just got rank 10 this weekend and hope to finish Zilart this month.

But I've tried all the other games, and I want to stay here and explore all those little things that were put into such a great game (like the aforementioned lake in Jugner Forest... can't say I remember it >.>).

I want to collect every map in the game.

I want to beat all the Dynamis and Limbus areas.

I want to be respected for being a great SMN as well as helping those who needed it.

I may be at "end-game" but I've got a lot of fun times with "the rest of the iceberg" ahead of me

Too bad none of you play on Unicorn. We could explore some together ^^

Wow, you sound really, really nice. Sadly, I'm on Remora (if only there wasn't the thing about different servers... oh well!).

                  It's about quality, not quantity.

Do what you love, and love what you do. The ship-sinking lower half of the iceberg isn't always as sweet as the tip.

To quote some famous guy/movie/or book: It's not the destination, it's the trip getting there that's all the fun.
I've been playing just over a year and tend to start another job each time I get in the 40 range. Took whm to 43 then took blm to 40 then thief to 46 (Treasure hunter 2) for farming. An now I'm taking summoner up. I agree the destination is the fun part and will get around to leveling my whm to 75 eventually, but for now I'm perfectly happy experimenting with different job each one's given me a slightly different perspective.

Hopefully we all continue to appreciate the journey.

Yeah I've been playing since NA release, only just got to level 75 at the start of this year abouts. And only recently starting to get into end-game stuff (after playing on and off most of this year).

I really haven't touched much on this game, feels like there's so many people who've do so much more than I have. So it really doesn't start to end at 75, infact I think that's where it starts. =)

"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

I felt the same exact way as you before I hit 75.Once I hit that level range, the floodgates opened.

At the start of my endgame "career" I had at LEAST one planned group event every single day of the week. It helped that I had lots of time to kill as well :p I've since completed RoZ and CoP and things have calmed down a bit (school made me limit myself as well). Weekly ENM's became a part of my routine (even though I could've done the capped ones beforehand). Dynamis, Limbus, Assault set, you name it. I haven't really dabbled in gods/HNM type stuff unless you count the occasional O hat/Rostrum Pump run.

Despite all of this, I'm still discovering new stuff to do. Even though I've got maxed fame, it's still fun to complete quests that are now easily soloable for me as a 75 BLM.

Now that I think about it, I could've done more at lower levels. Endgame's where it's at. There's almost too much to do in this game.

Re: Does anyone else feel like they're playing just the tip of the iceberg...?

I sometimes wonder if I'm a joke for the Japanese GMs when they view my account info. I've been subscribed since July 2002 with 35 days of playtime or less right now. My highest job is BLM 40, with one job at 30, two at 19-20, 2 at 10, and the rest under 4, with probably about 6 advanced jobs unlocked. I'm still working on getting Rank 4, have never done a BCNM, have done Promyvion Holla, and have never been to Norg.

Still, I have fun playing and don't feel pressured to level. I just sometimes go a few months without logging in to do more than put stuff up at the AH or garden, either because I'm into an offline game, not using my console at all, or am busy with school and work. Of course, because I was busy taking Japanese classes in college and working full-time, I didn't make it above level 13 before the American PS2 release, when I actually felt incentive to do missions and story quests because I could understand them completely, and could play with my friends.
