Can I file this under high levels giving bad advice to newbies too? The 20 or so levels of weapon skill that you miss out on during your first ten levels of leveling aren't going to affect your ability to melee in a KRT party later on in the game.

Because I just know that there's an 80% chance someone is going to come in with level 75 TP Burn scenarios and start giving advice about that when I really don't care about that and might not even level NIN past 40 anyway...

With the "I want it, and I want it *NOW*, and I prefer not to work for it" attitude, and wanting to play Ninja of all the jobs, while not knowing anything about the amount of work that is required to support playing one (ninja tools expenses do really add up...)

Something is not right when a person needs external motivation to play a game.

oh no, trust me, i know it will be alot of work, and its not a "i want it i want it now", its a, i have to play a class i dont want to for 30 levels...its sucks, and im getting their, have you ever heard the saying if you dont have anything nice to say, dont say anything at all....well that applies here

You obviously do not know how much work it entails as, the first thing you will need as a Ninja is a Warrior sub-job, that you'll have to level to 37 anyway.
As for "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all", follow your own advice by not starting a rant, or saying that things suck, and bla, bla, bla. Did you even say anything nice? sheesh...

When you get 30+ you'll see that the first 30 levels were a piece of cake. Leveling is leveling and you can only really make it funner by pting with friends or your linkshell. If leveling is getting that boring then do something different for awhile, a couple of missions, quest some armour you need and then back to the dunes for more leveling. It's hard work but that's the whole idea, you put in hard work and you get rewarded by being able to unlock advanded jobs. Take your time when you're new, make friends because undoubtly you'll need them later on to help you out. Especially with the nin quest. A lvl 30 will get pwned trying to solo that. So take your time, learn as much as you can and don't think of it as just leveling is boring. There's a lot more to the game than getting that extra level.

Aye, FFXI isn't easy, especially in your first few months of playing.

Once you get a linkshell and a few friends, it's a lot more entertaining and easier to get help/advice - but until then, you're kinda on your own.

Just stick with it, hopefully you'll start to appreciate the game more in the upcoming weeks

Actually, methinks If I were new to a game, had some things I was wondering about i.e if leveling got any easier/better I would take it to a good forum and ask.

This thread is welcome here, if you don't like it, don't post in here.

Icemage - I guess. It has worked for me every single time I've leveled a lowbie, which has been more times than I care to count. And yeah, you need a MNK sub for it to work. Maju already pointed that out. If someone who didn't have a MNK sub tried this and then complained that it didn't work, that would be their fault for not paying more attention.

Agreed, but what I've been trying (painfully) to point out is that the original poster is level 11, and doesn't have a subjob and won't for a little while, so suggesting that they use hand-to-hand when they can't sub Monk is, in fact, very bad advice (because they're... well... new... and most likely won't know that it won't work unless someone tells them).

/MNK with H2H works best for someone who already knows a little something about the game, or who has a subjob already available. Or you can just sub /WAR and eat meat and use a Hammer/Shield combo. That certainly does the trick as well.

Absolutely. As long as you have a few levels of Monk available as a subjob, H2H with /MNK is a good strategy all around for those early solo levels (especially for higher-strength, higher-HP races like Elvaan and Galka who really see dividends from those extra few stat points early) for experienced players. It still works even for my Tarutaru character, though I do have to invest a bit more in +STR gears and food to make it pay off well.

levelings gettin better and better, its not as boring now, as i have been making friends to talk to, and gettin more gear, and i just got the empress ring so that will make leveling not as bad, i also got a pearl for a LS so that helps alot

Yeah, I kinda know where you're coming from, the only job I was really excited to play was dragoon, of course back in the day invites for my warrior dropped off at level 27 because everyone wanted to invite the new advanced jobs people were getting at that level, so I had to go and level red mage to 30 instead ^^

Hang in there! Ninja is coming around the corner!

Oh, and when you get to Qufim, instead of leveling off of pugils, I would recommend the goblins in Delkfutt's Tower, much easier for slightly faster and more dangerous exp thanks to dropped goblin bombs.

Yeah Just hang in there kiddo. best advice i can give you is lvl a job you think is best suited for your advanced job you want to take. even if it sucks it will benefit you 10 fold in the future. I hated lvling War also but i lept at it so my Nin will be the best it can be. If you find it lvling war to be trouble some lvl mnk or thf. Monk was a awesome break from War basically Bubbly Bernie was my BLIOTCH! Whenever i felt like massacuring something i'd switch to MNK and go 100 fist BB.

Also if you're getting a lil exhausted from front line battles...lvl whm, blm, or thk, mnk anything that will take you away from being the 1st guy in and usually the last one out.
lvl 1-10 spells are very in expensive for whm and blm.

but in your recent post i'm glad things are in the up and up for ya. if you were on fairy i'd most def duo with ya to release some steam lol

We'll, coming from somebody who wanted to play as SMN when they first got the game, I know how you feel.

But you'd be surprised what you can discover by playing other jobs, when I was leveling my standard jobs (WHM, WAR, THF...) I actually took a liking to MNK, and am now making it my first job that I'll lvl to 75.

Just give some of the other jobs a chance and if you don't find anything else interesting, just bear with it and try to get to lvl 30 with one ASAP.

Good luck (I'm not giving up on SMN though, planning on doing the Avatar Prime battles once I get to 60 with MNK and get my full set of AF.)
