Where to start?

Hi! Today I bought Final Fantasy XI: Vana'diel Collection. So where is it best to start for a new player? Easiest to farm gil? Best class to start? Which job?

Start where you want, play what job you want. Your choice, don't go with what's easiest. Fram gil sucks period.

So where is it best to start for a new player?
Short answer: Start in the city you like.
If you know what your race is going to be, you can get a nice starting ring if you pair your race to the right city (San d'Oria = Elvan, Bastok = Hume, Galka, Windurst = Taru, Mithra).

Easiest to farm gil?
Not sure on that one, I would assume that all starting areas are pretty similar in the farming category.

Best class to start?
Start with the one you like; the beauty of this game is that you can change it at any time in you mog house.

Which job?
Hmm, if you mean job as in Black Mage, Warrior, etc.; then see above. If you mean crafting, then I wouldn't really worry too much about that at the beginning. Get a few levels before you begin crafting.

Race
Though this question was not asked, it seems to be a typical one. My opinion is you pick the race you like aesthetically.
