• Rude behavior...

I just got my Warrior to lvl 10, yay for that.
Anyways, I heard at lvl 10 you start lvling in parties and someone adviced me to move to the Valkurm Dunes.
After 30 minutes of waiting there I got a party invite went to them and got kicked with the reason "lol no [Great Axe], noob.", whats up with that? (On the way back I died "delvled".) >.<
FFXI is the first online game i ever played and I enjoy it but it really hurts if people tread you like that without any advice.
I've got also accused to be a man just because I play as Mithra...
I joined Bahamut because I heard it has a nice community, I do know that I'm just a beginner but the only nice person I've met so far is Murphie which is really helpful and he also got me the WP but right now I'm kinda desperate. ; ;

Re: Rude behavior...

I'm really sorry to hear that. Although there can be some jerks in the game, the majority of players can be really nice and will be more than happy to help you out.

Sadly, most players in Valkrum can be jerks, but as you go to higher lvl areas, the number of nOOBS will decrease. As for partying, you just have to keep trying and hope you get invited into a good PT, trust me they exist in the dunes.

Finally some people will accuse Mithra of being guys in RL, otherwise known as "Manthra". I doubt anyone else will bother you about this, but if they do just blacklist them and report to a GM if they harrass you.

I hope you continue playing the game as it's really fun and I gaurantee you'll meet some really nice people.

Welcome to FFXI

Wow people like those make partying awful. It happens from time to time, but eventually you will meet some good people then.

If you can, just duo with someone your level in La Theine for while. Fight some rabbits, some birds or an orc or two. I find that experience more fun than partying in Valkrum.

Just as in the real world you'll find stupid people who do stupid things without much of a warning, don't worry too much about it and take your time to make friends.

Not many players at the dunes are very friendly to begin with, and being low level is kinda a solo experience until you start meeting more people (usually at parties). To tell you the truth the best dunes parties I had back when I started (and by that I mean parties that were actually fun, because dune parties pretty much suck xp wise ) were with other subless, rank 1-2 players like me.

That's because most people who have spent some time playing and go back to the dunes expect new players to magically know everything in the game and to have the best gear aviable for some reason. Even if you read all the guides there are it takes time to get the hang of it, specially if this is your first MMOG.

But just give it time, there's still a lot for you to learn about the game and friends to make, don't give up.

Unfortunately, the valkrum dunes not only consists of the most n00bs, but the most idiots. Just get through that 10 level stretch, and you'll encounter less and less idiotic people over time.

Some people are too picky(and those guys are usually not worth playing with)....most are nice tho. War is best at axes so if you walked out there with a sword there are some who'd tell you off bigtime.

I don't see too mny Warriors who go straight Great Axe tho...most just use one-handed axes with shields for tanking in the early levels.

When I first partied on my war at 15 (years ago lol), I was blamed for attacking a leech and wiping the party. They kicked me. After I checked the log it was the ass who yelled at me who provoked the leech. I told him to check the log and see that he was the one who did it, he said I was lying. Then he did it again on the next crab they pulled. Anyway, screw em. Just go level another few levels and try to go back and find a party.
Thanks Kazuki.

Currently I'm using Sword & Shield because I plan to hit lvl 20 with warrior and play thief as main and sub ninja later on do I really need to lvl Great Axe?

Bleh, your party was pretty rude. You're best bet is to blow them off.

Although it sounds there's little of value that came out of this encounter, one thing you can take away is that as warrior you do want to have a Great Axe available, and have it skilled up.

Trying to find a silver lining in this: If you haven't leveled your Great Axe skill, this might get you another couple levels as you attack EP (and higher) critters to get it skilled up. Less time spent in Valkurm Dunes.

Re: Rude behavior...

It's always good to take Warrior to thirty or thirty-seven if you plan on being melee rather than magic. At thirty you'll have the opportunity to do Promyvions, and Warrior is sought after job for it, as well as Ranger, Ninja, Summoner, White Mage, and Black Mage.

Warrior is simply best with axes, and best with a great axe until around fifty and fifty-five when dual wielding starts to shine. A sword and shield simple wont work because you're taking a lot of damage and losing a lot of hate while not doing anything other than provoking to hold it. Great axes do a lot of damage so they work well to hold hate.

I always though Sturmwind WS for the Great Axe makes pretty good damage. Raging Axe WS too is pretty good.

eh, you dont HAVE to use greatsword, id suggest a axe+shield unless you have the time to skill the
G.axe up, wich is hard to do at low lvls, either way GL ^^

Nah, you don't really need a Great Axe for now.

The way I see it you are gonna do something like this:

- WAR to 20 (and get a sub, and choco license).

- Then THF/WAR to lvl 30 and unlock NIN (plus at these levels the best weapon skill you have for Sneak Attack (until Viper Bite) is Fast Blade with a sword anyway).

- Level NIN to 37 (?) and then get THF to 75 or level both jobs gradually.

If that's the case it's then you are ok, the damage increase from Axe compared to Sword at those levels is really small, and although Great Axe is nice it doesn't start shining till you are a bit higher lvl (20+) specially after lvl 23 with Sturmwind.

So, considering all these I gotta tell you it might work better for you to just solo till lvl 20 as a WAR and get help to get the subjob Items (I'm looking at you Murphietaru! ). You might get also more gil soloing like that and it wont take too much time really.

Not to mention the headaches you are gonna avoid, you can worry about parties after you start with THF.

PS> Just keep in mind, if you are going to take WAR higher than 20 (and you might eventually) Great Axe is a must, specially after lvl 23 simply because it works the best (WAR/THF at lvl 30 with Sneak Attack + Sturmwind is really fun to watch... unless you are the mob getting hit by it that is ).

Hi-o Miakis,
Most of us on Bahamut (and the rest of the servers I'd think) are generally civil people. Although I do admit to running into a lot of questionable personalities during my last trip through the Dunes. Anyway keep going soon you'll get some good friends, a decent Linkshell and you'll learn and do more. I'm on Bahamut and you can always do a " /sea all Jethreal " and drop me a line.
Good luck

Re: Rude behavior...

Looking at the skill levels for WAR will help you understand weapon selection better. This isn't something you would normally worry about at lower levels, but it is important; the higher your skill level with a weapon, the more damage you can do with it.

For a WAR, highest to lowest:
A+ Great Axe
A Axe
B+ Great Sword and Scythe
B Sword and Staff
B- Club, Spear and Dagger
C+ Shield
C Dodge
C- Parrying
D Hand to hand, Archery, Marksmanship, Throwing

What does all this mean? The level at which you get a skill is dictated by these, at level 10, your rated weapons will be capped at the skill levels shown below:
A 33
B 31
C 30
D 28

This means that you will reach the levels for the higher damage weaponskills much faster on the higher weapon levels. Taking Great Axe as an example, and comparing it to hand-to-hand (best choice vs worst);
Weapon Skill Skill Level Job Level
Shield Break 10 3
Iron Tempest 40 13
Sturmwind 70 23
------------------------------------------------
Combo 10 4
Shoulder Tackle 40 15
One Inch Punch 75 28
(I know war doesn't get One Inch Punch, this is just for example)
Now at least you can see where the thinking comes from about the Great Axe, you wouldn't get the higher level weapon skills until a higher level on other weapons.

On the other hand, by looking at the damage-over-time, you can see that there really isn't much difference at this level:
Type Weapon Level Damage Delay DpS
Single Hand Legionnaire's Axe 10 13 276 2.82
Great Axe Hellfire Axe 8 24 504 2.94
Sword Royal Archers 10 10 228 2.63
Gt Sword Claymore 10 22 444 2.97
Note: I'm comparing weapons equippable by a level 10, and excluding the HQ versions of these weapons.

The Great Sword and Great Axe have a slight advantage over the single handed versions, by a small amount of damage per second. The single handed weapons, however, allow for a shield to be equipped. The most common at this level being the Aspis which increases the players defence by 3. This in turn translates into less damage taken by the player and therefore less down time for the party as a whole.

As a conclusion, tell the people in those parties to stop thinking like level 50+ and start thinking "lets have fun"! Your entire choice of weapon at these levels is really based on what you are going to do later. I've seen people laugh at players that take a LOL-Great Sword to the dunes, but look at those numbers and tell me why they were laughing! It has a higher DpS than a Great Axe at this level
