  • JP Job Names?

I used to see this in everyone's profile, but can anyone tell me or direct me to a site what the JP symbols for each job are?

look through this page. it's not actually a job listing, but it has all jobs both in eng and jp side by side.

the 1 symbol usually is the first letter you see in the full name. except brd is the 3rd

          It goes:

          戦 WAR
          モ MNK
          赤 RDM
          黒 BLM
          白 WHM
          シ THF
          ナ PLD
          暗 DRK
          獣 BST
          詩 BRD
          狩 RNG
          侍 SAM
          忍 NIN
          竜 DRG
          召 SMN
          青 BLU
          コ COR
          か PUP

The last two may vary depending on the server - those ones seem to be effective on mine.

The PUP is kinda off. Not sure why, but you do know it's not kanji for anything and not katakana, so you can mistake it for anything, right? On my server, they just go PUP. Simple as that or there's another kanji that means "doll"

As Onionsoilder pointed, it's indeed a hiragana "ka."

As w/ all other hiragana letters, katakana letters only possess sounds, thus they don't bear any meanings themselves, unlike kanji. Given this fact all other non-kanji 1-letter abbreviations can be "mistaken" for the same reason, while it's true that hiragana letters can more likely be "mixed up" w/ sentences, thus can be overlooked if not properly punctuated/spaced.

However, in normal conversations we don't tend to use these 1-letter abbreviations, but instead we spell them out in full, or in shortened form such as "詩人" for "吟遊詩人," while the exceptions go to WHM, BLM, RDM, BLU, DRG and SAM ("侍" already is a full name for SAM in Japanese); we just use the first kanji letters even in conversations, such as "白" for "白魔道士." As such, PUP becomes "からくり" for "からくり士."

Now, thinking of when we get to use these 1-letter abbreviations, it's usually when we ask for members for things like BCNM, when we list the current members' jobs, or when we list the equipment stats, and it's unlikely that we mistake "か" for anything else knowing that wherever this is shown is for the job names.

                For instance, if we put the current party setup along w/ the invitation /tell for a party, it'll look like;

                忍戦か白黒

and for most of the time players will know this "か" is for PUP.

BTW, there's no 1-letter kanji that means "doll" in Japanese, at least among those commonly used. "Doll" in kanji is "人形," with "人" meaning "human" and "形" meaning "figure" or "form." Not to mention "からくり" actually means "gimmick," not puppet. And since "人" is already used, though not so popular, to mean "Hume," using just "人" will very likely mislead us. Even if we use "人形" we won't know you mean PUP; it's like saying "Axe" to mean WAR.
