  • Did i do something wrong?

Today was a good day until i started hunting VE. I know what your thinking but its a little different. I went to Valkurm dunes to get the EX/RARE item valkurm emperor drops. I already have the emperors hairpin and was going to hunt VE so i could sell the one i have. (the non ex/rare one) I get to the spawn area and not more than about three minutes into it VE pops. I kill VE and nothing drops besides an insect wing and this is when it all began. A pretty mad player comes up to me and this is how the conversation goes. I wrote down the whole conversation. P1 will be the player who is mad at me and Me is me. I typed it out just how it went with me getting mad at him and the parts of the conversation where i couldnt understand what he was saying.
    P1 /tell pop?
    ME /tell yes
    (after I killed VE)
    ME /say nothing
(the player examines me and all the rest of the conversations are in /tell)
    P1 /lie
    Me im not kidding
P1 if you have it why you kill it
    P1 why
    P1 ?
me im killing it bc i want the ex/rare one so i can sell this one
    p1 WTF

(after the last statement i was mad)
me do i care what you think?
    me the answer is....no
me blist me all you want
    p1 i know you dont
    p1 yes. get lost now
p1 also if it popped why did you lie on the pp
    p1 you said nothing
(This is not a sarcastic comment. Am i supposed to tell other people who i am competing for this item when VE pops? Also what does pp stand for?)
me i said yes when it popped
    me look at your tells
(after this i didnt talk to him anymore)
    p1 yes for privet
    p1 ?
    p1 yes in privet
p1 keep in mind this is hunt from the long game also this is a game. also keep in mind if you like ff you shouldnt do this
    p1 goodbye
p1 also you said you blist me but you didnot

First thing you do when you get to VE camp is Blist everyone in that area, i learned this the hard way :-)

Oh by the way, if you like ff you should send me your gils. And cookies. Some milk would be cool too.

To be honest, I always thought people like you were just greedy.

(aka, people who have LL boots or VE hairpin that just go out to try and get the item, just so they can sell the ones they have, vs the people that actually try to earn a nice piece of gear by camping it themselves)

I think that update only made people who already had the item have to camp it again so they could sell their non-EX version

Re: Did i do something wrong?

How is it greedy to camp a mob for a Rare/Ex version of an item you already have? Heck, for that matter, how is it greedy to camp an item that you already own so that you can sell it on the AH for profit? I mean, yeah, I wish that people who already had one would just lie down and let me get the claim, but that's simply not going to happen.

Yeah I am guilty of that. Why? Because rare/ex > normal in my books. I have lost a E pin cause I lent it to someone and never got it back - this way I cannot do that. Its not that easy to get VE cause of the stupid repop times of it. I have no problems with it being done this way - at least it stopped the campers just selling and selling it after claiming it (on our server we have a japanese thief who not only powered goldsmithing to 100 but got a fair way on his Mandau JUST from VE before the change). I have no problem with people wanting to make some money from their Leaping boots or Emperors Pin.

I used to think this too, but then started thinking about it. If you had a Emperor Hairpin, and you needed money, you probably wouldn't hesitate to go camp VE for the RARE/EX version to sell yours. That's like 2mil gil you could have without costing youa nything. At least I would

Re: Did i do something wrong?

Protip: Talk to everyone! (Nintendo's #1 tip of all time!)

There isn't anything you can do against rude people, except ignore them. I don't like to blacklist people, because I always get the feeling that if I do, they might start shouting or something about my character. No matter how little the damage, I'd like to know it's happening, you know?

Anyway, you are not doing anything wrong. He's just frustrated that you got it and he didn't (and he was too paranoid to believe you when you said he didn't drop anything, because 'everyone says that').

This is the basic problem with MMORPGs. You place a monster with a low spawn rate, with a low drop rate, with a good item, and everyone wants it. This brings out the worst in people, because many people will trade morality for the goods. It breeds secrecy (keeping the TOD to yourself, telling wrong TODs, telling people nothing dropped, even if it did.), cheating (accepting help and kicking the person to get the item to yourself, hacks to claim monsters etc.), jealousy (I've been here weeks, and someone happened by in the last 5 minutes and got it!), pretty much all the dark aspects of society.

When you think about it, the game's no longer about helping people and having fun, is it? It's about munchkinizing your character (What?! No Haubergeon/Scorpion Harness+1/Hauberk/Ridell/and so on?! GIMP!). It would be a lot better I think if people just left the parsers, the elitism, the arrogance at home, and just have fun once again, and there was a time when that happened...

Yeah, I'm getting off topic here. I don't see why you WOULDN'T be in your right to sell your hairpin and get another one. I don't recall in the TOS where it says "Oh yeah, you can't make some gil for your character by selling things you rightfully own on our Auction House." It's not that you DON'T love Final Fantasy, you just want to get some gil for your character, which is actually pretty hard to come by.

Probably the best way to avoid this in the future, however, is to either sell your hairpin now, and camp VE until you get your replacement, or don't wear your hairpin when you're camping VE.

That, or simply ignore the guy when he gets rude.

Re: Did i do something wrong?

If i was some sort of crazy person (huh?) i would totally camp VE, get drop, toss it in the sand, and keep camping for more drops that i could toss out in the trash.

Because i can, :p and people would be all like OMG EVIL PERSON HERE /point/point and i'd be like lol.

                      <.<;

                      Not really..

It's not that bad though, is it Balfree?

I mean, I camped VE back when he dropped the sellable hairpin for the sole purpose of selling it. It popped, I got it, people were cheering me on, it was great.

I actually got it too. I immediately put it on the auction block for 300k (This was a LOOOONG time ago, when 300k was a lot to NA players), and now I'm all like "Man, I should have held on to it! I could use a million gil!"

So, for someone who can sell the hairpin now, why not? It's not like he's throwing his original in the sand, or somehow wasting it. Someone who has the gil to waste on the thing's going to buy his, and help him out with his gil. Meanwhile, he's going to go camping for the new hairpin he now needs.

I don't see that much of a problem with camping a Rare/Ex version of something you already own. If anything, the sales drive the price down some.

I see, I guess, but I guess it's just personal as it seems I can never get claim/drop, and when someone else gets the drop, it's always to sell theirs >.>

Also, it's just the EX version, since the version you have is already rare.

Re: Did i do something wrong?

No, there is *nothing* in any way shape or form wrong with camping a Non ex item dropping mob for the sole intent of selling it's item. Ever. There are lots of different ways to make gil in this game and NM camping is just one of them. The only thing you did wrong in any way was letting the jackass affect you. As said before, someone like that isn't worth your anger.

Keep camping that thing and here's hoping you eventually get the drop.
