  • So I been playin for 2 days...

and it seems like no one talks in this game. The few people I see when I'm out levelin just seem to ignore me when i try to talk to them or are japenese.

Being that this is a social game I'm wonderin is it like this on other servers?(I'm on titan) Any tips on getting parties?

Id also like to say that the stickies on this forum have been very helpful so thanks for the info.

It's not that no one will talk to you, but rather unless you're in the city Jueno, talking freely is rarely done. Best thing to do is to get yourself into a well established (but not too large or you'll be overwhelmed) linkshell and then talk from there. Otherwise unless you're in a party you'll rarely just talk randomly. Don't feel too discouraged.

Part of this is a result of language barriers, partly it's because this game is pretty old, and partly because there are no chat channels in which to hold conversations with random people (like in WoW or EQ). Most chatting goes on in linkshells or occasionally in PT's.

Thanks for the reply, what would be the best way to find one on my server?

The best to find a linkshell(s) to grab several at a time. There are several ways of doing this. You can shout, but only once, to see if anyone in the area(as in town, not outside a town) could give you a pearl. You can check people to see if they have any bazaar messages that indicate they are welcoming members and have a pearlsack. You can also /tell people with pearlsacks to see if their LS is the kind you would be allowed in, though, don't over do it, and if you get rejected, it was for a good reason. Once you have these pearls, test them all out and meet many people. Stick with the ones you like, but member all the people you meet.

Don't be a jackass however. If you get kicked for provoking people or letting someone provoke you, that is a sign you probably need to adjust to the fact you are not alone and need to be respectful(like in real life). If someone comments on your gear or subjob or playing style, don't be prideful and act like you know whats right. Pride is rewarded with knowledge, so absorb as much as you can.

On a completely different note, if you are new, then spend sometime noticing the small things. When I first hit level 10, I explored all the maps in the nearby area and talked to all the NPCs. Though, it didn't provide me with any instant rewards, I was able to find many quests and complete many quests without having to look for help online or from other people. It also gave me a strong foundation to how I look at things in this game, in both storyline/setting purposes and battle mechanics.

Once you start leveling up in experience parties (in your early teens), you are very likely to be invited to a shell by a party member. There are many, many social shells on every server that actively seek new members.

Re: So I been playin for 2 days...

Being new in a game that is several years old is tough if you do not know anyone that play it already.

This is so, because there will be a lot of "world champs" that feel they're too good to speak with newbies, there are language barriers, but most importantly, there is a severe lack of OTHER new players, as yourself, so you won't be exploring new areas, and facing new dangers with otehrs - you'll more than likely be the only one in the party seeing this & that for the first time.

This is something I say, because it is during exploration of a new game world that the game is the most fun - when there are no spoilers, the RMT's haven't yet been able to set up their shop for the game, and everyone knows just as much about what's around the next corner as you do.

This is what makes friends. I started in November 2003, fairly short time after the NA release. I joined the game at a time when the japanese people were kind, welcoming and helpful (they had one year headstart). Today, most of them just reply: "English, no thanks", if they reply to you at all.

During those days, 10 thousand gil was a fortune, and the auction hoouse was so affordable that I was able to level my white mage to late 40's or early 50's without spending more Gil than what I would be able to make alone farming regular ingredient monsters (try that as a WHM today! ) .

Back then, people would go as far as to help you on your first journey to Mhaura, just so that they could have you in their Valkurm party - and as you ran along, you set your homepoint each step of the way, because the world seemed so endlessly big that you didn't dare think to restart that journey shold you die.

ALL of the friends I have in-game (and they're quite a few), I made during my first year of play. Other that have followed later, came after I invited them to join my world of Final Fantasy. I recently reactivated my everquest accounts to see how it was to be new in an old world, and let me tell you, talking to people that were new to me, was just hopeless - I experienced exactly what yo mentioned, no replies at all for the most, or a plain rude "No". Keeping in mind that my toons in EQ had conquered all there was to conquer in the game and was equipped thereafter ( I left after our guild had Quarm in Plane of Time reduced to a farmable mob, for those of you that have played it).

Baseline is, once you level up a bit, and start partying with people, it's ultimately your personality that decides how many people that you will befriend. It is alot easier in a new world, in addition to have a more "pure" game as well. Linkshells aren't something you find by the way, it's something you're invited to by other players that took a fancy to you, or your game style.

RMT's will be the death of this game. SE can't control them.
