    Re: Why dosent SE

FFxi is getting into midlife to old age.

SE is planning bigger better things. Money shouldn't be spent on it like that.

Not to mention, market saturation. SE has no plans to enter the non first world markets like korea, china, etc, etc, etc. They're not doing anymore real localizations.

This is unlike WoW that wants to wear a different language every 2 months. And their servers are cranking out like an assembly line(locally, not centrally).

WoW was thought from the ground up, as something to sell and sell fast. Build, move on, and build more.

      Re: Why dosent SE

Yea it is definately in its mid life crisis now. But then again was there really any marketing ploy for it. i think a week or so of commercials. an a few magazines adds. Nothing much else not like WoW or EQ games, An sadly if you seek a copy of the game 2 months after its been released you have to go to an antique show.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

Why dosent SE addvertise the hell out of this game like World of warcraft does.
FFXI is 4 years old. No one spends advertising dollars on a 4 year old product.

I tried WoW, I tried Guild Wars and I keep coming back to FFXI. It has it's problems but it has it's beauty too and the big thing is for each the elitist jerks there are 10 nice people playing.

          Re: Why dosent SE

LoL Guild Wars is not an MMO, let me repeat that, NOT an MMO. It's diablo/blizzard.net-esque, chatroom log style online gaming.
"how broken everything about ToAU is."
"Do you have Haruhi in your daily anime diet?"
"ok... I've quit 5 times... and failed each time miserably... they need a patch for FFXI like those nicotine ones...."
          "Finally Quit this game"

              Re: Why dosent SE

Where in my post did I say it was? But Guild Wars falls in to the same Fantasyesque genre. Many people have left FFXI to try Guild Wars, because you create a character or a fantasy class such as Warrior or Mage class and progress through levels, you have the option of teaming up with other people in online play.

Their magazine adds also left somethign to be desired. to me they just seemed plain. Honestly i think they just prayed to whomever that the name alone would advertise it enough.
I'm going to hafta agree with that. Many people I know, myself included, only got this game because of the FF title. But even with that they did and still do put plenty of effort into making this game fun. And as long as they keep doing that, and I don't see them stopping any time soon, then there will always be a healthy playerbase in this game regardless of advertising.

                  Re: Why dosent SE

SE needs a prettier and more accessible game for advertising it to make much of a difference to a potential player base.

It was when the PS2 was considered a good gaming machine but in the days of the xbox, xbox360 and megapowered GPU's FFXI is to today's gaming about as much as UO was when FF came out.

Now FF is a old gen MMORPG:

                  bad graphics (by today's standard).
                  the old "grindfest" mentality.
and a heavy push towards forced grouping.

The grindfest isn't so terrible so much as the tedium that it takes to even get to the forced grouping part.

[sarcasm]I'm surprised you don't need a party to buy stuff from a npc ...[/sarcasm]

                    Re: Why dosent SE

I can still find copies of the game in stores here. I guess I'm just lucky though. Also, it's not as though not finding it in stores would deter me. I know how to use the internets.

FFXI is an older game. I think the advertising for it is just about right.

I have no idea what that means. Thanks. Does that mean that SE could buy Blizzard out (something I consider unlikely to happen) or were you hinting at something else?
