Why dosent SE addvertise the hell out of this game like World of warcraft does. and why dont they start stocking stores with this game and not with x box 360 versions im talking about pc versions, its way better then world of warcraft. SE can also buy out this threat that is known as World of warcraft and destroy it.

        Ok, a few points.

Yeah, there could probably be more advertising for the game. Then again, it's several years old at this point, so I think the amount of advertising that we see is pretty comparable to what other companies do for games of this age.

I have no idea what SE not being god has to do with anything. That comment makes no sense.

SE is a very successful gaming company, but so is Blizzard in their own right. I sincerely doubt that SE could manage to "buy out" Blizzard.

I love this game too, but I know what it is. It's an older game with a niche clientele. Not every MMO gamer is going to like FFXI, and tht's ok with me.

They should keep the game in stores longer. I had to order CoP online and now I can't find ToAU in the Gamestop or Wal-Mart where I live. I want to play again, but now I'll have to go out of town just to get ToAU.

I'll even have to go out of town just to get it for PC when I get a good enough computer to play it.

            Re: Why dosent SE

What SE needs is to get some brainless morons to buy out to advertise them. It's worked incredibly well for Blizzard, since X-Play now makes a World of Warcraft reference in pretty much all of their shows, and always when they review an MMORPG.

Yes, FFXI really does need more marketing, but the best way to do it would be offer a more compact version, which could be downloaded off the site, and a 14day trial code. Sort of like a buddy pass, but without needing codes. Most people aren't going to play more than 14 days if they don't like it at first, and once their two weeks are up, they'd either be ready to decide if they want to spend 20$ on the Vana'diel Collection, or forget about it.

SE can also buy out this threat that is known as World of warcraft and destroy it.
I hardly think that WoW is a threat ... it's a completely different game than FFXI and attracts different types of players. I started my MMO experience with FFXI with the NA launch and loved the game (and still do). I made a sojourn over to a few other games (including WoW ... which I'll get to in a second), yet here I am, back in FFXI again and loving it even more than the first time I played it.

What I'm about to say may come off as somewhat comedic, but anyone who has played both FFXI and WoW will most likely agree. A short summary of the FFXI community (as I see it) is that it is a wonderful arena with many intelligent, well spoken, (and most importantly) POLITE people. That being said, the WoW community is overrun with rude, impatient people who like to have everything handed to them on a silver platter. They also cannot spell the words "you" or "for" using more than one letter or number.

Yes, WoW has more subscribers than FFXI ... but who really cares? I love FFXI because it has had time to mature in the ever-growing MMO market and it's still going strong. FFXI has made it past the "growing pains" of an MMO and weeded out the majority of the complete idiots and "1337 d00dz" whom plague many of the newer games out there. If you see WoW as a threat because your friends are leaving you to play it, I can pretty much guarantee that they'll be back sooner or later. Other than that, I really can't see how WoW would be a threat to FFXI any more than it would be to any other existing MMO on the market.

Sorry for the rant, it's 9:30 AM and I haven't had my coffee yet! Just thought I'd put in my two cents hehe.

                    Re: Why dosent SE

I have to agree with the above. FFXI and WoW attract completely different sorts of gamers, due mostly to one major difference : Cooperation and Conflict.

By this I don't just mean player vs. player combat either (though this is indeed very different between both games), but more the attitude in the game designs. FFXI takes a very cooperative model to pretty much every activity; even in PvP events like Ballista or Brenner, cooperating with your team is vital to success. WoW on the other hand makes players much less dependent on one another - it's possible (annoyingly boring, but possible) to reach max level (60) solo.

Because of this, people who like being loners and antisocial tend to gravitate away from FFXI all on their own, simply because you literally can't get much of anything done in FFXI if you hate everyone. From subjob quests to artifact armor to Assault, the vast majority of worthwhile activities in the game require the assistance of other players, which means that making good friends isn't just a good idea - it's vital in FFXI.

WoW on the other hand is inclusive of loners; there are a lot of solo or tiny group activities. While are are a number of important activities that require larger groups of player (the higher level instances, for example), and of course factional PvP, the fact remains that WoW neither directly encourages players to get along with one another, nor enforces it even in cases where it's indicated.

I think in the long run advertising FFXI wouldn't do much good - it doesn't have the broad appeal that WoW does, but that's really part of its charm.

                      Re: Why dosent SE

I've been Playing MMO's well over 10 years now, and let me tell you the only thing that holds me to this one is the players, the storyline and the challenge. Content wise many mmo's got FFXI beat, interface wise this game is appalling, the fact that the visual content can't be updated because they don't want the ps2 ver. to seem like a lower experience is another glaring flaw... But hey the people who play this game, just seem to be my type of people. I don't consider RMT a flaw because every MMO has it these days in one form or another.
"how broken everything about ToAU is."

"ok... I've quit 5 times... and failed each time miserably... they need a patch for FFXI like those nicotine ones...."
                      "Finally Quit this game"

                        Re: Why dosent SE

I think one of the reasons SE doesn't need a massive marketing campaign is because the FF series has gotten a rather large following since the very first game. It has become a very popular franchise in many countries outside of Japan and North America. Every hard core lover of the FF series was waiting impatiently for years for a game like FFXI to come out.

The only FF game I've ever seen to recieve a large marketing campaign was actually FFVII. When it first came out, I saw ads on buses, TV, radio, magazines, etc. Every other FF game has had an interview with an ad or two in gamer specific magazines. I can only theorize that SE wanted to keep FFXI for those that love MMOs and more importantly, those that have a love for the FF series as a whole.

                          Re: Why dosent SE

It's "Final Fantasy" It didn't really need much advertising to begin with. Everyone who knows what an RPG is definitely knew that this game was in the works way before JPN or USA release. Not to say that it couldn't use a little more advertising now, but I have definitely seen ads in magazines for the expansion. It's just not full blown out advertising.

And as someone previously stated, the two games are very different. Blizzard advertises epic scale battles between opposing factions, lots of spells, big weapons, etc. Basically when you start the game up, that's what you get. Cool looking weapons/spells lots of fighting action etc.

Whenever I have seen a FFXI advertisement it seems a lot more mellow in comparison to the WoW ads, mainly focusing on teamwork and a story to follow. And when you start up the game, what do you get? A story to start following and missions to start doing with your friends or whoever.

Personally, I think FFXI has the perfect difficulty level for an MMO. The only problem is organizing parties for quests, missions, exp etc. Sometimes it feels like trying to coordinate a wedding. That and the massive time sinks for crafting, gil farming, and basically anything else.

Oh another thing I notice is that everyone seems to think all of the FFXI players are so mature and educated and everything. Well let me tell you, I don't know if it was my server or what, but most of the people I had to group with were very inept at using english and basically had no idea what was going on half the time. Occasionally a rare gem would come along and I would quickly add them to my friends list, but most of the time I was weeding through morons to find the good players.

Eh, sorry I kind of turned this into my own personal complaint session for SE. Lol. Anyways, I love the game, but it could use a little fixing to fit my taste. Oh and don't think I'm some kind of WoW fan on a rampage because I haven't played any MMO in at least a year. With that said however, most of my points may now be invalid if they did change the way things in FFXI work. But from what I see on these forums, it doesn't look like it.

Anyways! I don't think SE has to advertise much because they have a dedicated client base.

Well considering they don't even sell the original versions of FFXI at local gamestores, I think SE is focusing on the current population. I assume they are happy with the amount of players right now.

If this game went by another name. i honestly think this game would have flopped. If it wasnt for the name Final Fantasy i myself may not have ever picked it up. I only base this off of what seemed to be a poor marketing ploy. Back when it first released for PC. i saw commercials every now an then. An even those commercials didnt jump out at me. Their magazine adds also left somethign to be desired. to me they just seemed plain. Honestly i think they just prayed to whomever that the name alone would advertise it enough.
