Here's a secret, check out the price of a commodity on the weekdays versus the weekends. Notice that prices go wild on the weekends? Too many people play that time. Ive seen silent oil stacks go from 40k to 20k in less than 2 days. If you want to play the stock market, buy them when they go low and sell them when they go high. I knew someone who used to do that a lot and made a bit of money.

I saw J petis go 200k -> 60k -> 180k in about two weeks. It was kinda funny.

Astrals are a horrible example of 'natural' inflation as the price increase came from a change in their supply. They are no longer found in Oz and have become BCNM only.

Playing the AH is always a good idea if you're not doing much. Find some high priced items and stick in a cheeky bid. Bet Vandle wouldn't complain about prices if he got a Hauby for 200k and sold it for a few mil.

Oh yes you did leave out the details regarding about the spells Tractor and Escape. Where in the heck, do I see, you were saying you were doing Mission 3-3 before you claimed that the THF helped you farm it? The only thing you said was:

Yes i know most if not all spells are ontained cheaper at NPC's thats where i have gotten allmost all of them from, I also got a 75THF friend to kill come Wights and Bogy's for Tractor and Escape. This is'nt really a 'Me' thread just a all rounder.

Again, it's not like one item alone shoots up in price. Earth crystals may have gone up from 600 to 2k, but items you farm to make that gil have also gone up. I'm pretty sure beehive chips weren't 20k back in 2003, and I know elm logs never sold for up to 8k a piece. Those who buy the elm logs might gripe, but their bast parchment/shihei sells for more too.

Davitron: Prices seem to be falling on Phoenix back in July. I haven't been able to log in for the last two weeks, but most consumables seemed to drop to some degree. I got annoyed that beehive chips were going down to 17k, but I noticed that just about every kind of sushi was also going down by 5-10k, so everything felt even to me. Crystals have also gone back to old prices.

This entire thread is pointless.

Prices are high when demand is high, or there is significant inflation. Prices fall when the money supply deflates, or demand decreases. It's that simple. Has nothing to do with RMTs except in those cases when they marginally affect any of the above.

thats a bad example too as craft, monster drops, and farmers change so does supply and demand.

Light custers were like 20k during the rusty cap high. now its like 6k. Teleport is no longer 500g etc.

Why are you alive ?
The detail was the spells not the fact i was doing a mission. Mission had nothing to do with it hence why i didnt state it in the post, then somone (probably you) decided to assume i dragged a THF out there Just for the spells. So Just stop typing your useless jumble.
Oh and and i have to work for my Gill do i....? Damn thought i could just /shout and people would give me money.....

When I said what I said, I meant in FFXI.

And when I said what I said, I meant that SE could have chosen to do a more stable economy not subject to the throes and whims of Gilsellers, price gougers (everyday people, not gil buyers/sellers) and so forth. In sheer enjoyment factor, XI actually drains alot of the fun from the game because of the economy system which they chose. One time only things don't make anyone bigger, better, or have more of an achievement. All it does is lead to elitism which XI is so ate up with that it's almost like a rabid dog.

My entire point was that SE could have elected to do a system that would have been more stable and less susceptible to RMT and just general price inflation over time, but they did not. Surely they weren't so naive as to think no one would ever do that... or that they had prevented it. I was trying to point out how if they had done so, how they could have had such a stable, more enjoyable system where people were free to explore the game, the quests, and the roles they played, rather than camping one small section of a zone for 4+ hours trying to eke out a few hundred k of gil. For those who elect out of endgame due to lack of time, or lack of will to put up with the crap that goes on, they're stuck with that.

Whereas in Galaxies it was balanced to allow room for 'work' and 'play' and leave you feeling like you'd had fun regardless of which you were doing. It's far too late to change XI now. But I love thinking of how it could have been. I find my enjoyment in exploring the game, but you almost can't do that without thinking 'Man, I should be farming...' and I find that fact just a little depressing in the end. The higher I get the less enjoyable the game is. It's almost exponential. Early on its fun, most stuff is easy to come by, you've got time to just kill, play, explore. Later, you're farming or camping some nm in almost all your spare time to get equip for a party. Honestly I don't know how alot of people do it. Thankfully overall summoner isn't that expensive of a job. Especially in relation to whm, blm, thf, nin, etc.

I was attempting to establish a comparison only w/ my babble on Galaxies. By showing what I did there, and still being able to be at the top of my game despite not having to toss asinine amounts of time away acquiring the money for the equipment. I was challenging the point with a scenario of 'If they had done..." what XI could be today. It's a very different world, that XI, but I think it would be far more enjoyable in the end.

In the end, I guess it's a pointless endeavor to even think about it. But the current system really wasn't the best option by a long shot. And I don't know if it'll stick around for the next MMO they put out. Here's to praying it isn't.
