Re: What do you do when you're LFP?

I'll farm, fish or craft while waiting for a party. I hate just sitting around doing nothing since it makes me feel like I'm not getting my money's worth for the game. If I'm out farming, I'll usually put in my /sea comment where my HP is so people know I can be there quickly. When I'm fishing or crafting, I stay close to my MH so I can quickly toss what I was doing at my moogle before heading out. I think my moogle hates that since he's often ended up with food on his face or tangled up in a fishing line.

I usually go and stare wistfully at stuff in the AH I will never be able to afford, do quests, crafting, or read a book/do homework while waiting for purple text to appear at the bottom of my screen.

When I'm on DRK, I'm seeking while skilling up my Great Sword in Rolanberry. When I'm on WHM, I'm on the computer: Reading [GM]Dave and GoblinSmithy, reading these forums, updating things on FFXIclopedia, and more recently, .DAT editing.

I hate lfp, so I generally lvl jobs that are in high demand. Though when I feel like playing an odd job, like SAM, I sub nin and go solo while lfp. If I spend more than 30 min lfp, I end up inviting friends to hop on a job within lvl range, and we kill stuff together.

Re: What do you do when you're LFP?

I haven't really had to do this in a long time. I static with my wife so together we are a tank (Paladin) and a healer (White Mage). We just pick up some DD and a support and we have a party instantly.

When I didn't play with her I usually would constantly use the search function. What I did was /sea level XX all, whatever was two levels above or below. Sometimes I would do xx-xx, but that doesn't always display the results. If I need a certain job then I will do /sea "job" level xx-xx all.

Icemage said something earlier about Red Mages shouldn't have to ask this. The first thing my wife and I look for is a RDM. So if there is a RDM looking when we are on, it isn't for very long.

After my rdm hit 41 (a looooooooong time ago) lfp became a thing of the past. I've had multiple invites as soon as I've logged in, even before my moogle appears. Invites when /thf, farming with a search comment stating I've not got my xp gear or that I don't want a party. I've even had invites when /anon just because the leader/pt member saw me casting refresh or wearing a piece of AF and they assume I must be their level.
In 66 lvls of RDM I've never had any of this happening. Where are these servers that have 10 PT's in each lvl range always looking for RDM?

No matter what class you play you can go for long periods of time without an invite. I've even seen BRDs with a flag up go for many hours without an invite.

Re: What do you do when you're LFP?

If I don't feel like making a party at the moment, I'll craft or something else in game, or, I'll do something irl, like clean up my dorm room, or play a game or watch a show/movie on my TV (I use PC for FFXI, so my TV is open). Sometimes I'll surf the 'net on my laptop. Whatever I feel like doing. I don't idle like many people do.

Re: What do you do when you're LFP?

                  What I do is:

-LS chat (if I have one equiped at the time)
                  -Level NPC
                  -Farm
                  -Quest
                  -Crafting
-Run around the place talking to NPCs to see if there's something new
                  -Review Cutscenes from past missions/quests/etc.
-Help people with stuff that doesn't require taking my lfp flag off
-Other stuff as it presents itself

Sometimes I do more than one of those things at a time, and I rarely watch TV since Discovery channel went all "pimp yo ride" or whatever so that's not an option really, not much to see on the TV lately (although Natgeo and History channel do have some good stuff at times though).

If SE implemented a windower I'd add watch anime to the list though.

Edit > I rarely make my own parties unless there's enough people to build a proper one (I don't like experimenting with bad party setups, there are more enjoyable things to do instead).

Re: What do you do when you're LFP?

I'll watch a dvd, browse on line with another computer if I want a quicker invite because some people forming pt's don't realize they can /see all rather than just checking the imediate area. for theif I use search comment:
___ tnl [Dagger] [Skill] caped (#)
                    [Homepoint] [Jeuno] can [Warp]
If my target pt area is off Kazam replace the jeuno with that as hp though.
This has a slower invite rate than siting in Jeuno though :+<
I tend to carry a scroll of instant warp they're cheap conquest purchase and are very useful in places like Yagtor Jungle 2nd area.
btw if you waited 20 minutes as a Redmage 41 it was a bad night even whitemages don't get quite as good an invite rate after level 41 as the rdm's due to refresh. (Although oddities like a flag of an indemand job of same level do occasionally happen just not often).

Garuda. At least from level 10-50 if you have any ability to heal your not likely to get your flag up before getting invites (Healers have been scarce lately I feel bad for the summoners rarely being able to use their avatars because of the shortage).

/em stagers, checks for other signs of Armagedon.
It can happen it's one of those things you hear about but rarely see There must've been almost no people in his level range in the world pting. I've seen Bards get away with fishing gear in jungle parties although now that Corsiar is available I've heard they make a nice replacement for the bards slot. Couldn't say for certain though.

Re: What do you do when you're LFP?

Normally, I'll fish, work on a craft, wander town aimlessly, make something to eat or listen to music.... the list goes on. Wandering has to be my personal favorite, nothing quite like waiting for 8 hours for an invite and wandering around Jeuno! Considering I'm a dragoon, I'm used to slow invites. Lately I've been having trouble crafting since I hit 25 alchemy (14 levels in 2 days >.>).

In general, I'm not really interested in being in a party with these people. They have a greater tendency to create malformed parties with either poor job synergy, level range issues, poor camp planning, etc. I find that probably 50% of my invites while in Jeuno on a weekend are of this type and it's generally a waste of time I could be flag up and picked up by a better party.

Fenrir was like that while I was leveling RDM, I dunno right now, but then again most of those invites were from people who knew me from a previous party.

Sitting in Whitegate auction house camping, talking to linkshell mates, or crafting for profit. Failing that, its time for MSN.

Sometimes, I'll farm if I'm on THF, or if I'm on a low lvl job (dunes lvl, ranger currently) I'll do a bit of soloing or duoing since I rarely party in the dunes without an LS member.

That's how I feel about it as well. If the party leader doesn't know how to /sea all inv, or even just search in the level range he needs, then I'm probably better off not grouping with him anyway.
