Speaking of duplicate races, why do we need more races anyway? It's often been commented on how patiently european the elvaan are, how asian the mithra are, how african the galka are. <snip>

I mean, the similarities are there for anyone that wants to see them, and pardon me if I offend someone, but they are there for anyone with the brains to look farther than skin-deep!

All of my characters are female because, well.. I'm a female and I like kick ass women.

As a black female, I'd like at least one of my characters to be brown. But I guess I'll just have to be satisfied with the beast like galka because, you know, they were slaves too....



All sarcasm aside, I can certainly understand that the mechanics of making different skin tones is complicated. I'd be nice though.

As long as the devteam is opposed to even adding more hair types and colours, I doubt we'd ever see new skin types, let alone completely new races.

I'm sorry but WOW! The last person to use Color as a race was my Grandmother when we were shopping "Why don't you buy the colored barbie." she said to my cousin. I dont' believe I could laugh and be in such disbelief.

But yes I as well would like a little more variety in skintone. Even with the curent mainly white skined hume's they are a few with noticeably different skintones and colors(as I see them). Made me wonder why there isn't any others like that.

Seriously, Ice, I respect you so much for being a smart guy, and then you start missing obvious things I have in my posts. Have you been sick?

I saw it. Note my annotation afterwards that while I felt that there were some similarities, I didn't feel it was a direct allusion in terms of being an actual political statement. You have to remember this is a Japanese game, and their cultural viewpoint doesn't focus nearly as heavily on racism as you might think. Japanese culture does have an element of racism in it, but they typically don't really psychoanalyze it to the extent that Westerners do.

Yes but the westerners in the game do pyshcoanalyze it...

Personally I never could care less about the whole mass. If people really want to see something, they'll see it, whether it's there or not. Like the people that comb through disney movies looking for sexual innuendo, or the certain man who said he wouldn't let his children watch lady and the tramp because it portrayed chinese as villans.


But whether it was put there deliberately or not, it's still there, and you still here people talking about it and complaining about it.

As far as I'm concerned, the race issue is like the gilseller issue...the players manufactured it themselves, and while they have their own solution at hand (.dat changes and not buying gil in the first place) they still feel the need to 'mention' it to SE occasionally, hoping for gratification.

Myself, I could and have been living quite happily in ignorance of these issues.

We're on the same server (although I"ve never seen you playing), and yes we do. One of the experimental linkshells I was in with (Socialites, but not the purple socialites that's around nowadays, so it must have gotten broken) used to have daily arguments about it.

Oh speaking of people from the same server, I ran into Monkor from the .dat forum and poked him.
