  • Is it time for me to go?

Hello everyone, I am Roren of Odin. For the last month or so I have had no motivation to log on and level, or log in period. I love the game dearly, but if I do not play the game I am just wasting that money that could be used towards something else you know? However, so far this post seems pointless, I am just looking for some advice on wether maybe I should quit the game, or force myself. So what do you think about my situation, any advice would be very helpful and most appreciated.

cancel all content IDs, not your Pol account, your content IDs and take a break. Don't delete your characters, or start tossing items, just cancel your content IDs to prevent being billed for the game. Do NOT delete your Pol account, as that is free, forever. Also do NOT delete your characters as they will be saved on the server for and extended period of time, though the exact amount I am actually un sure of. But canceling your content IDs will stop all billing of the game while you are away from it. You can reactivate your content IDs, and start playing your character again whenever you wish.

Though I think you need your original registration codes, so make sure you have those handy before you do anything.

Re: Is it time for me to go?

Yeah, cancel your Content ID's only. I quit a while back because the game bored the crap out of me... and also due to the fact that I didn't have a way to pay for the game anymore. Now that I've come back after a few months, everything seems new and refreshing. You could also try limiting your play. How can I put this... it's like eating your favorite food.. say Pizza. You eat it once in a while and it stays refreshing and tasty, eat it too much and it becomes boring and bland. That's the best way I can explain it at 3:00am sorry.

Yea, it never hurts to cancel your content ID's. You can always turn them back on when you need them, and they last til the end of the billing cycle IRIC. A lot can change in a couple of weeks/months, but there's really no harm turning off the billing.

Edit: I think I cancelled mine for upwards of 6 months, and maybe longer. I've never lost a character by cancelling a content ID.

As far as I know, they only save your Content IDs for 3 Months.

Re: Is it time for me to go?

Could make a drinking came out of how many times Ziero says "content IDs" (*shot*). Although he does have a good reason for doing it.

People will come in and wonder what to do after they've deleted their POL ID and find out that they're pretty much screwed.

You get 3 months before SE might delete your Content ID *shot* (which they rarely do right after 3 months, and I believe that you can reactivate during a "Come Back to Vana'deil" campaign.)

I'd go with the suggestion of just canceling your Content ID's *shot* and taking a break. If you decide not to play again, you don't have to do anything. The only annoying part about deactivating the IDs are that you get asked your POL ID and password so often that you'll probably memorize them by the time you're done.

Yes... I have my current one memorized, and I could probably come up with my old one from 2-3 years ago if I gave it enough effort. This shows how many times I've cancelled and come back. I love this game.

Someone should make this message a sticky somewhere on the Front Page with the Title, 'Do you need to take a break from the Game?' or something like that. The amount of unhappy players that try to return after they have cancelled their Playonline account seems unending. I do know that is clearly stated in the documentation and on screen, but it couldnt hurt.

Re: Is it time for me to go?

I thought they changed the 3 months to 1 year? Or was that for POL accounts? Err, I'm not sure.

Anyways, I've quit around 3 times thus far. Each time I thought it was for good, so I gave a lot of stuff away and restarted each time. It was only last year that I decided to stick with it and get my first character to 75 -- now I am in your boat again, and I've even had a two month break, but I can slowly feel myself getting interested in the game.

So I don't think it'd be wise if you were to delete anything, it's such a hassel to get back into the game when you need to start from scratch.

Re: Is it time for me to go?

Ok, so you need a break. But from what? I know many whos game style is like a single street. The way you phrased your post, I get the idea you may have such a style too. You may just need a break from that, instead of from the entire game. Luckily, FFXI offers a lot of ways to play it. So taking a break from one way means you still can play.
If you have mostly been doing one thing, (like leveling up with a bit of farming to finance it) you may want to consider doing all quests you can find. There's a lot of running around and seeing things you would otherwise not have seen. Besides the normal quests from various NPCs there's also the bigger stories of the standard and expansion missions. Following some of the stories is way different from just getting your numbers up.

Hope you get through your break (whatever kind of break it is) and keep loving FFXI.

I've been considering quitting too...for a vastly different and probably shameful reason...

I want one of the little model airship furnishings they give you for doing Return to Vanadiel.

                          I can't return if I don't quit.

But spending 3 months without ffxi....oh misery.

That's why you try to find a friend who likes games and rope em into playing.
