Re: People still play FFXI?
I didn't understand what you quoted. He didn't make any sense at all.
500,000 subscribers and 500,000 players are two different things. The first means (accounts) and the second means (characters in general)
We know that all accounts have at least one character. That's a number X.
We know that some accounts have more than one character. That's a number X+Y where Y basically is excess characters not equating to the number of accounts.
If you mean 700,000 characters and not accounts, then the account number is way lower than 700,000. It's basically X = 700,000 - Y (If you know how many characters are in excess of the number of accounts you have)
Unfortunately, only SE has this data. So if SE says 500,000 accounts, then I take their numbers as more official than someone's rough guess of 700,000 "characters."

I just wanted to also add that the account number of 500,000 is about right. You might think it is strange that the number hasn't changed much at all over the past year or two, but most of you are forgetting something.
1. Some XBox players already were a PS2 or PC account holder.
2. Many players have quit FFXI (You can sift through all threads on just about ANY forum with regards to someone or some group who left FFXI for other games in the past two years and remember, only a few players uses forums or post in them, so the figure is much, much higher.
3. Many of the accounts were banned over the years, some unannounced and others made the news. Either through RMT, player griefing or just normal account banning (Like someone I knew on Hades was banned for harassing another player which was totally not related to end game or RMT)
