Baron's stuff is the high quality CRAFTED version of the Trader's set. It's relatively new so the price to buy even the normal quality is higher than some other items that may be better.

        Re: Baron set

for my DRK, I have a mix of baron and traders gear.

Some of the Baron gear is outrageous at the AH, and if you are on your first time through, I'm sure you could find better ways to spend your gil.

        Thanks for the sig, Selphiie!!

You should have no problems finding it in Jeuno. It's been around for about a year now, but most starting city AHs probably don't see much of it.

I dunno. It's not really so bad. I'm not a fan personally, but lots seem to like it.

                  For RDM? Hmmm. My RDM is level 1 ; ;

For blackmage I know "black cloak" is awesome (10k level 20 int+ tunic .. might be black tunic). If you do a lot of nuking I'd check it out. IF AH is too much check out Rabao. NPC sells it there.

                    Re: Baron set

The standout pieces of the Baron's set are the Saio (body) and the Slops (legs).

The Baron's Slops give +1 HMP, which can last you through almost your entire casting career, so it's an incredible investment. In my experience, it's also the cheapest piece of the Baron's set.

The Baron's Saio can be more easily replaced with equipment macros (Mage's Tunic for INT, Priest's Robe for MND), but it has the bonuses on one piece, which is less of a stress on your inventory. Unlike the Mage's Tunic, you also have access to headgear. No other +INT piece allows that until the 30's.

The Baron's Chapeau has a very nice +INT boost but at the cost of +Enmity. I see way too many nuke-happy BLM's wearing this thing, and every time they pull hate, I wish they'd left the hat at home.

The Baron's Cuffs are a radical waste of money, replaced more easily and cheaply by Zealot's Mitts many levels before and again by Devotee's Mitts a few levels later. Both those gear items have -INT on them, but you never need MND at the same time as INT. Use an equipment macro if necessary.

Baron's Pigaches are another waste of money. Mage's Sandals are cheaper and give a better boost.

If you pay for the full Baron's set, you're paying for a set of white borders. If all you're interested in is the look of the set, go with the cheaper Trader's gear. Still, don't understimate the value of the Baron's Slops and the Baron's Saio.

                      Re: Baron set

                      Hi there,

I dont really class myself as a font of knowledge regarding FFXI but at the moment i have Barons gear too. i got it by crafting i failed alot though and cost a fair bit i created a "mule" I let her collect crystals and sell the stacks when she gets too high I let her die a few times to drop again.
Dont get the Barons Chapeu it has + emnity which i didnt realise and with the most basic of spells can get your butt whipped!
I use a silver hairpin at the moment which gives me +mp

I hope it is of some help and good luck

                        Re: Baron set

If you know what you're doing the +2 Enmity on the Chapeau should never cause you any problems. Add a Talisman Cape and/or a pair of Mycophile Cuffs to your inventory and you can enjoy the INT without the +Enmity anyway!

But yeah, the body and the legs are the best pieces for certain. Don't even worry about the shoes.

none of the pieces are really needed, it's honestly a waste of money. but meh, it looks damn good on my Elvaan.

                            Re: Baron set

The only piece worth the long-term investment is the Baron's Slops. Works on a variety of mage jobs, is low level (great for level capped missions like Promyvion), and offers a boost that very few other pieces of gear in the game offer at the same equipment slot.

The rest of the set is entirely forgettable, and the hat isn't worth the +enmity.
