I can't remember what forum it was on, but one player had a theory that I think is pretty likely. He said that he thinks that all GMs get a free account for FFXI and some choose to play it (Gludd) and many don't (Jcblue).

When you ask a GM for more than a simple "move me please, I'm stuck", you can tell which ones know the game.

In the end it all comes down to how many bottles of Jack Daniels/players banned per hour to measure [GM] effectiveness.

But to stay on topic I think IF GMs play the game they would be the first ones to use/not use a windower since they know how things really work and what can and can't be detected.

          Re: GMs and windower

They don't need Windowers. Their versions of POL/FFXI has window functions already.

          D'oh.

Semi on-topic. Check out http://killingifrit.com/ Main Page on the right, they have a "Do You Use Windower?" Poll. Since it already has plenty of activity, i think people here should head over and answer it.

The answer will not suprise you though

              Re: GMs and windower

Come on, play nice with the GMs. Their situation kind of reminds me of ones I'd end up in on MUDs. One MUD being a sister to another I was a developer on had promoted my character to a developer, funny but I didn't realize at the time that the developers on the sister MUD had restrictions that didn't exist on the other.

We were forbbiden to go anywere that a player is allowed to be normally, we couldn't interact with the game. Only time we would is to assist a player when they run into a bug, so I got lot of the similar responces of "How'd you become a Dev/GM if you don't know the game?"

So really if this game is of the same structure the GMs won't know all the innerworkings of the game. At best the GMs might understand very very basics of the game and some battle stratedgy but anything more then that is asking a bit much from them. Even then going with the rules that sister MUD had the Dev/GMs were not allowed to discuss the games functions or give details/stratedgies to fight a mob. It was a very strick and illegal act that would get you banned.

This is pretty much the correct answer. When they showed pics of the FFXI GM's office each station had a dual moniter set up. On one screen was a clear picture of FFXI and on the screen right next to it was what appeared to be system type text boxes. GMs don't need the windower because they get far more power right at their station.

As for which ones are smart and which ones are dumb, well that's easy. They're all people, and some people are smart and some are dumb, you take what you can get.
