    Most likely not.
Almost four years experience playing FFXI. I am a Raccoon, not a Hyena--despite my name states I am one.

Do the policemen in your town obey the speed limit? Food for thought.

Based on the picture of their office posted somewhere on here... I'd say that they don't need to. Each work station had two computers and two keyboards side by side.

Lol, actually no. Many times I've been driving down the road going right at the speed limit or maybe a mile or two over, and I'll get passed by a cop. Not at breakneck speed like they're heading to a call or something, appears to just be cruising.

Nope. I've seen cops do 10 over on the highway. o.O

In which case I'll go the same speed if not just a tiny bit slower.

Of course not. I've even seen them get near a red light, turn their lights on, run the light, and then turn their lights back off. Multiple times.

But that is a situation where the authority breaks the rules and, in most cases, regular people don't. A (slightly) better example would be parking in handicap spaces. Around where I live a police car got towed because he parked in a handicap space at a restraunt, and a guy who actually had handicap plates couldn't park in the spaces because he had taken the last one. He swears he didn't know it was there...yeah right.

                Hahahaha! Nice...

As for GMs using 3rd party programs, I'm sure they never use them on the job, no need to... but on a side note, I read somewhere that a GM was using a warphack(In the office no less) before their 3000 suspensionfest to see how it worked. The following day he came to work and tried to log in, but his GM account had been suspended =P

Given the spectacular lack of knowledge about the game at times (some of my ls couldn't enter dynamis - they called a GM who bluffed about then said "Maybe your fellow players will know better than me"), it should read "Do GMs actually play Final Fantasy XI"?

It's sad when people answer thought provoking rhetorical questions and over literalize their meanings.

So in response to what Ice said: Good point.

lol That reminds me of a recent GM call I made.

I noticed a Fire Elemental named "Oniwaka" in the Bastion area of Al Zabhi. White (yellow?) name, 0 HPs, and just spinning in place. I could only target it as an NPC, too. I had been getting a lot of back-to-back disconnects at around the same time and figured another SMN had just been skilling up and got DC'd in a very strange way. Several hours later it was still there, though, and I decided to call a GM in case the poor player wasn't able to log on because of this weird DC.

The GM who answered me asked "And you think it [the Fire Elemental] shouldn't be there [in Al Zabhi]?" Then he asked me if I would "like to report it as a bug". In the end, I thanked him for responding to my call, logged off, filed the "bug" through POL. The "elemental" was gone after a day or so.

One possibility is that there is a regular set of GMs and then an "answering service" after hours. (I read this speculation in a post.) So far this corresponds to my own experiences. It seems the GMs that answer my calls after 6pm ET or so don't seem to know the game as well.

                        edit:

I should say something on-topic. GMs probably don't need to use a Windower (multiple computers or monitors), but if they did it would be part of the job. Third-party programs + FFXI is against the ToS for players, not for GMs. ^_~

You made a GM call for something that should have been reported as a bug and wonder why the GM didn't seem helpful? Could it be they aren't technical support for the game?

I seem to recall that the window before allowing you to make a GM call tells you not to use the GM service if your reporting a technical problem with the game. Should I laugh at you for being apparently unable to read?

I considered this the same way I considered myself lagging through the Goldsmith Guild - a problem with a player being "stuck". Since you're supposed to call a GM in the latter case, I called a GM for a case where I thought a player was "stuck" and yet unable to call a GM himself. A GM doesn't have to know the technicalities of how a player can lag through floors, but a GM does have the ability to move players around and affect other parts of their game-play.

I reported it as a "bug" through POL, but I still don't consider it a "bug". A bug is when you get extra XPs from Chigoes and you shouldn't. Although game code can be adjusted to account for lag- and DC-induced errors, it's not the same.

The GM either had just started working there (a possibility) or didn't know the general set up of the game. There shouldn't be *any* fire elementals *anywhere* named a character's name; the GM didn't know this simple game concept.
