Re: Feedback, Chocobo Raising (From SquareEnix)

I haven't read ALL the above post, more like skimmed it.

I was thinking since we can't ride the chocobos, do you think it's okay if they made Checkpoints in the race where we could use items for the chocobos?

Oh, and please don't limit the number of races allowed/person!

I for one am going to do nothing but race/breed when this is released, mainly because I've always wanted these features in the game.

Also, as far as rewards, there should be a variety avalible for all different kinds of groups. Diggers, Racers, Party-goers(Fireworks as a conpensation prize?) breeders etc.

And something like monthly tournaments with leaderboards and such would be a very nice and appealing idea.

Edit: As for gambling, do not make people gamble using thier IS points! Currently, the only way to get a good ammount of these is by either
      a) Having a 60+ job and getting experiance points in ToAU areas, or;
      b) Having a 70+ job with enough luck with lag to get 700 IS points/besieged.

I like the idea of chocobo points, but gil works too. If you calculate it well enough you could have the racers cause more of a sink in the economy compared to the 'fountains' (rewards) from betting.

Re: Feedback, Chocobo Raising (From SquareEnix)

Okay, just chatted with ls about this and did some brain storming. Alot of my ideas are from "Chocobo Racing" released on the PS1 by Squaresoft. It was a "cart racing" with FF theme. Some of those concepts are applied to my ideas except for items that crash up other racers. Mainly I would like to see chocobo racing as a kinda of minigame that Final Fantasy is known for.

        1) Everyone in my LS wants to be in control on chocobo during race mainly cause it's more interactive and fun then just sitting on the sidelines watching. I think if SE designed a different button configuration for both controller and PC keyboards to be that more designed for an actual racing mini-game it would help alot. Maybe SE can make it so you can chose to auto pilot or control you chocobo in a race.

        2) Each course need to have obstacles to help balance out the play field alittle and add to the excitment of the race. I think boulders, bushs, rock, and pitfalls would do this fine. Also maybe make objects you can jump over too. Prehaps SE can make it so you breed different type of chocobo abilities such as cornering, stamina, speed, etc.

        3) Please limit the amount of players racing from 2-10 to help with lag issues. This is going to be key to help with connection speeds too. Also I'm not to keen on how exactly a connect speed would help beside when zoning but if it is an issue maybe add a time delay factor. Also please have a race once every vana'diel day.

        4) Prizes, prizes, prizes. We all love prizes be it items for our character or personnel chocobo we want them.

        5) As far as gambling it okay with me if you give npc money to gamble on the odds.

Re: Feedback, Chocobo Raising (From SquareEnix)

Looks like it will be a random jockey riding your chocobo, having no effect on your stats.

We may be controlling these birds much like in FFVII and the Gold Saucer. Which will work out just fine.

I assume the only thing that really needs to be decided for release now are "bets". I would really like it to be Gil, yet if it were, we would have to work it in such a way that RMT cannot take advantage.

If we have Ex Items, we can freely have many races through the day.

I would have to say that the safest way is a point system like our signet or FFVII's Arena. I know I have mentioned FFVII twice and sound like some sort of fanboy, but it works.

i third? this. >_> its gonna be kinda lame not to be able to name it...most of the names for wyvern/puppets are kinda lame :/

            I just want my Akaijr chocobo ; ;
also, what would be neat, are prizes O.o which could be anything, from aht urghan currency, to rare chocobo items, and such o.o also, food for your chocobo sounds nice :D like, Endurance+3, Speed-2 or something.

also, being able to equip your chocobo with good saddles, rehns?(i have no idea how to spell it), chocobo shoes, and, like special pendants/items to make your chocobo better, kinda like the puppet attachments :O

              Chocobo Naming:

It should be our choice. Not from a list. I have not seen anything about this officially. Although, I have not really looked. Five chickens in the same race all named Bullet (The only Cool-Choco-Name in the list) would annoy me.

Sorry, but it has been officially announced you will pick from a list, though SE has stated that the list will be much larger than the lists for Automatons or Wyverns... I really wish that was a feature too. There are always going to be chocobos with the same name.

Re: Feedback, Chocobo Raising (From SquareEnix)

Like, how big of a list? I'd like to get a name that I will end up only seeing 1 or 2 people that chose tha name also. =/ Uniqueness helps a lot.

I love the idea of the Chobi points, and getting them when you bet, so thus it takes tons of gil out of the servers. I think you should be able to place your NPC as the jockey on the chobi, that'd be awesome. ^^ (I still think you should be able to zone with your npc...)

Weather should definitaly be a factor in the races, and there shouldnt be a weather npc so we won't be ready for what weather could be happening.

Along with the queueing commands, if it does go like that, there should be specific points, but we should be also able to change them throuout the race if its not going how we want it to. Hey we have linkpearls, we can talk to our jockeys cant we?

I also belive we should have races where we Can control the chobi, just not able to get anything from it. I'd Love to race my friends!

Also along with the chobi raising, I'm glad that we will be able to have at least the meeting a chobi once a week, cause my school schedule is going to be Hectic! Well, I'm glad that they're adding the racing. And the raising

Oh, I also completely agree with being able to do stuff with your chobi right before the match, Raise its morale & whatnot.

*ninja edit Mwuahaha* Furniture is a must! Trophies would look sooo cool in my MH. Also the other prizes would be awesome.

                  Yay, Ty for this Eohmer~

As long as Chocobo Raising is fun and has its rewards and titles, I'm fine with it.

Chocobo Digging could use a lot of fixing. Please change the fatigue system and please add more different types of greens to make digging more effective. There was a thread where I posted two flawless systems in the suggestion forum.

Well, looks like I am going to choose the most non-generic name... No "BlackDarknessEvil" Black Choco for me. I'll save that for Clowd and Sefiroth.

Still, It should be a fun update.

I think it's nice that you can't ride them, so raising them has -a lot- of emphasis. Besides, people race dogs and no one rides those.

I'd like to see mini games to play with Chocobo like Tamagochi As well, training a chocobo in certain stats will decrease others so an overly amazing chocobo will not be abile to be made easily. Like having stats of the parents averaged, then reduced giving you an egg which depending on the environment for it to hatch will slighly change it's stats.

Re: Feedback, Chocobo Raising (From SquareEnix)

I think it's pretty cool that SE decided to ask the players what they wanted instead of the usual silence we've been treated with for the last couple of years. I really wish Playonline would open an official forum for this purpose, but that's another argument for another day.

                          So, here are my suggestions:

-- Involve lots of synthesis recipes in conjuction with this. Cooks can make chocobo food that boosts stats, other crafters can make stat boosting harnesses or other chocobo items, chocobo racing gear for the jockey, etc.

-- In true Mario Kart style, let players use items that impact racers during the race. For example, one item could Gravity all other racers for a few seconds, one could stun, one could boost a players speed. Add a timer on each use or make it once per race to avoid griefing. Bonus: let alchemists be able to synth these items.

-- Add some NPCs that give racing stats. Add on that lists the top racers on the server, top chocobos, and one that gives your own personal racing stats.

-- Let us be able to use our own Chocobo names instead of choosing from a list!

-- Have a rank system that rewards top racers. Take an experience points-type system. Each win gives X number of points, second place gives less points, etc. After earning a certain amount of points, you can "level up" in rank. Upon reaching a new level, you can now access and equip certain prizes.

                              My suggestions.

                              - Keep the idea that players cannot control their Chocobo during races. This was something I was worried about and it will be out of control with those who like to cheat their way to victory.

                              - I like the idea of strategy. You cannot read other peoples minds, yet you can learn their pattern, like a fighting game. Items to hinder of other racers progress in the race, or items to boost stats from a menu during the race would serve well.

                              - No gambling. I agree with other posters when they say someone could find an easy way to exploit that system, by having other people bet on him to win, and he somehow pays everyone, even the racers he would tell to lose, a huge sum of gil. That is, if gil doubles or triples on betting. Winning trophies and prizes would be a good benefit to racing, as well hold a ranking board where the person who has won the most races could be placed at the top, to try and be dethroned by other racers.

                              - A suggestion about the actual Chocobo Circuit itself. Recent reviews for Treasures of Aht Urhgan stated that the game did indeed get a much needed injection to make it feel somewhat new. However they said the game could have been better had you not have to ride a 13 minute boat ride everytime you want to visit the new continent. The Chocobo Circuit should be a hub that allows people to travel in between San d'Oria, Bastok, Windurst, Jeuno, and Aht Urhgan. So many people would be happy with that mode of transportation. It would also help people play more in the Conquest regions, whereas they've been pretty empty as of late. Many people like the ability to outpost warp for easy traveling, but would also like to enjoy the new expansion pack without need of a once a day warp ring (Olduum,) or a 13 minute boat ride.

                              Thats is my suggestions.

Re: Feedback, Chocobo Raising (From SquareEnix)

                                Currently Planned Specifications:

                                - Chocobos will not be controllable by players during Chocobo Racing.
I think this goes against the whole notion of the concept. I mean, I knew it was coming, but there was still that part of me that was hoping that they would find some way to make it so that players could control their own birds during the races.

I think what people were looking forward to with the whole "Chocobo Raising/Racing" system is an online recreation of the feature from FF7, where they could raise a bird that would help them get to places and find rare treasures and spells along the way, and race it themselves and get fabulous prizes.

I like the idea of no-player control: It would only take one speedhacker to ruin everyone's race.
Probably. However, then you'd have an interesting question: How many GM calls would it take to get a speedhacking racer banned?

Furthermore, would this feature create incentive for GMs to take shifts and monitor the races? I can imagine it would be easier to watch this than anything else in the game, and it'd be a refreshing change-of-pace from dealing with "they stole my claim" calls or whatever people bitch about.

"Speedhacker wins the race! His reward is...a trip to Mordion Gaol? WTF?"
