Well the race track .dat that does exist came out of the ToAU expansion pack. If you don't need this expansion then you should be able to find that race track in your .dats somewere. If you don't and after update still don't see then you'll know racing chocobo's require the expansion.

Otherwise if eggs are to be sold more various vendors and show up as drops and such it kind of sounds like that part won't require the expansion.

      No, no, no!

You shouldn't have to have your NPC at level 60 just to win a chocobo race. The race should be dependant on the chocobo, and not anything else.

I have currently 400 IS left, I need 4 mythril coins for my blu AF body and the only place where I get it from is besieged. Currency can be sold at the AH.
It's a good idea, but keep in mind that you lose money too.

Also keep in mind that it's sort of difficult for low level players to gain IS in the first place, since Aht Urghan areas are 55+.

My idea on gambling is to have "Chocobo Racing Points", where you gain points in different ways such as:

      - Trading in Aht Urghan currency for them (although make it so that it is much better to gamble for points than trade IS for them)
      - Winning chocobo races
      - Gambling with them (duh)
      - Doing quests? Dunno about this one...

And have it so that you can trade it for prizes, like Imperial currency(so you can gamble with imperial currency if you want, just have to convert it to choco points first), some items to make your chocobo faster/look cooler, maybe a few good pieces of equipment that can be sold.

You make a good point, I wouldnt mind another way of getting IS, but I still say Currency should have more uses.

Agreed. SE has already stated that they want level ones to enjoy chocobo breeding and racing. That's not going to work with fellowship NPCs. And thinking about taking care of a chocobo AND a NPC-Jockey sounds waaay too unnecessary to me.

Well did some looking at a map and saw this.

Now to what I like to say
            - Well I like and dislike the ideal of "Cyber Jockies" yes it's good and bad. I want to see my bald char in my pld gear race . . . . so make it where the person plans how will they do it before the race and have the player race.

            - betting would be good, but fact is RMT is a problem and yes RMT might get ideal to get a few together and bum the race so . .
            - make it random entry (like the wedding but faster and not so long of a wait.)
            - bet a "Chocobo Currancy"
            - or have it bet gil only so many times during conquest.

            - I like to see prizes of the "Chocobo Currancy" for choco stuff. Like having a Choco house and have get bedding, pictures, trophys, special clothing (Choco Pld, thf, cor and so on).

On a personal note going to sit and watch races while looking for pts make it alot interesting than just sitting in town

I did say something about the prizes somewhere(I just don't remeber if it was here):

Make them like BCMN drops...you won't always get good stuff for what you bet but there's a decent chance you'll get a rare item. Don't give out gill for winning just items...

These items do not have to be EX or Rare EX...rather I'd like racing to be a secondary source for big ticket items...but make getting them a matter of chance...

I must say, what I read was really good, but I am sorry to say I have not read all of the posts in this topic.

That being said, I would just like to state what I think about chocobo racing:

                a. I belive that the entrance fee gil should be used as the 1st 2nd 3rd place prizes. I do not think that there should be gambling from people other than those involved in the race.

                b. That being said, I also belive that there should be a 'veiwing' area where players can come and sit around the racing arena and watch a race.

                c. I belive that there should be races like every Vanadeil Day, or twice every Vanadeil day. This should be like ballista, and sometimes if there are not enough entries, than one would have to wait until the next race entry period.

                d. In my opinion, chocobos should not be manned. WIthout having a jocky on top of the chocobo would test the bond between the player and its pet more intensly. If your chocobo hasnt bonded with you enough, then it has a higher chance of running in little circles instead of running all the way to the finish line.

                e. Items should not be equipable, and the 'bonds' between PC and Chocobo can only be improved by length of time or some other activity as determined by SE

Just my sole opinion, and I am not sure if they had been already previously stated. Thanks for your time

well i haven't read most of the replies so i may be redundant. I think gambling should be for items only not gil. I think winning some chocobo equipment, maybe not for stats but for looks in races

one option i'd like is to order my cho to block those behind it. Maybe a option like sprint then block

lol and last but not least we should be able to order our chocos to gang up and kill that damn black choco from FF7

I have to agree with the idea that if there's no control or very little, chocobo racing would be rendered a pointless exhibition and no longer the game we were hoping it to be. Queuing up commands seems like the best compromise here, though I feel it should be done with a deceptively simple interface, but distinctly complex under the hood due in part to differences in stats.

As far as jockeys go, I think Square's assumption was that our PCs would be the jockeys... and that the whole "other jockey" concept is being tossed around mainly as an odd backlash against the idea of there being anything that our characters do that we'd have zero control over. If our characters are literally only watching and someone else is riding the chocobos, it somehow would feel more right to those who agree with the zero-control approach. -- Pteryx

I think we should be able to ride the Chocobos in the race nad have the otion of sprinting and a fatigue gauge thats capacity will depend on how well the bird was breed.

i totally agree that we should not have direct control of our chocobos, keeps ppl from hacking and screwing it up. id like to see the system similar to the way it was done in ff7.
see your character actually riding ur chocobo, but no direct control over which direction ur moving.
i saw some nice ideas in the posts past that may not work out so well, for instance
the idea was brought up to allow ppl to sit in the stadium and spectate the races. prob with that is the amount of lag it would create, what they should do is have preset cameras around the track, maybe a camera for each rider, that ppl can spectate through.
i dont believe betting should be sanctioned through se, it complicates things, also brings up the issue of bringing more gil into the game.
I agree however that there should be entree fees to help lower in game gil and item prizes like choco armor and the like.
