  • Keeping Momentos

Just kinda a question of idle curiosity. Did anyone else keep any momentos like like your AF weapon, or your winning testimony? I've never even equiped my AF wepaon (I had a weapon same damage, same dealy, same stat buff only better), which I suppose a few people do. And i kept my winning whm testimony. No reason other than its sorta a halmark item or a badge of honor.

Am I the only one that does silly stuff like that?

First AF weapon, and the body of my starting RSE. I went to toss it all but I started to feel bad. I Also have my first Mist Silk Cape.

I tend to throw out anything that I don't use and that takes up space. I lost my sentimentality a long time ago.

I keep gifts that were given to me by friends, flowers, chocolates, weapons. It's getting to the point where I'm going to need a mule just for the sentimental stuff I have.

                Re: Keeping Momentos

I don't know if guys are more likely to keep items representing achievement, or if girls are more likely to keep items with emotional attachment, but I still have two Valentione's Day gifts in my inbox, and a bone hairpin signed by my now-in-game hubby. ^^*

...then this guy in our LS got a bunch of uber-crystals, from Summerfest or.....something, I guess, and made us all signed lvl. 1 Harpoons. o_O ....not sure what to do with that one, my DRG is about lvl 7 now. XD

                    Re: Keeping Momentos

I'm somewhat of a pack rat. I keep almost anything that reminds me of a good time. Things like a Ballista whitepage, my AF weapon, the hourglass from my first Dynamis, all event items, as well as some fireworks, gifts from other people, dead linkshells....lots of stuff. And I plan to keep my Ducal Guard wing as well even when it runs out.

                      Re: Keeping Momentos

I haven't really saved anything equipment-wise, although I've kept my AF hammer.

But way back in my noob days, in Quifm island, I ran into an Elvaan who gave me a linkpearl. At the time, I wasn't very impressed with the linkshell system, and I especially didn't expect to be impressed with this guy's pearl, since he was the shell holder I assumed that it was a pickup line in disguise and the shell itself would never have anyone on it and be virtually worthless.

To my suprise, there were people on.

                      All the time.

The shell Preators got pretty big, and I met a bunch of friends, and we all had a rollicking good time together.

Then the bad times came. The leader could hardly ever be online, he had a RL girlfriend that didn't let him play. People started to squabble and argue. A number of people left the shell, but I and a number of other devotees stayed.

Then one day it got too much. A paladin decided to split off and make his own linkshell. There was a standing invitation to everyone from the old linkshell to come join his new one.
This was the second major out-flux of people from the original linkshell. The new one took root, somewhat tremulously at first, but gaining a stronger foothold as an organized system of leadership developed.

Still, worried that the new shell would run out of members, the shell holder gave out pearlsacks to everyone who asked. A lot of people got brought in. a LOT. The faithful group that had migrated from the original linkshell was overwhelmed by a deluge of yammering, flaming drooling idiots and inter-relationship and family dramas. A number of people threatened to quit. A number did quit. A number of players had to be forcibly kicked before the shell got back on an even keel.

But for a long time it was very quiet.

Then the leader got to endgame. And he decided he wanted his own dynamisis linkshell, just for him and the faithful numbers who had not only stuck with him through the original migration to the new linkshell, but had stuck together through the drama, the mass-booting of members, and everything else.

Now there are three related linkshells...the first, and original one where everyone met. The shell is still active, but nobody ever goes on it anymore.

Except for my mule, who wears the blue pearl proudly. This is the true history of my FFXI, a royal blue linkshell named Preators, in which I met the people I still adventure with.

Most of the time I sport the yellow linkshell, the big one, with people coming in and going out every day. I can usually find a good twenty people or more on the linklist. Not all of them I want to talk to, but it's okay. Petty rivalries aside, the shell is calm and organized. When people get worked up, it's all in good humor debating the pros and cons of equipment or party setups. People come in to ask for help, and usually recieve it. A huge fellowship of people, all squabbling and allying as only friends can, disorganized except for a very loose pecking order mostly based on activity within the shell.

Then I have the silver pearl, the Immortal. The trusted few. A quiet shell, without drama. Immortal is mostly simply an officer's room for the Fellowship, where events are planned out away from the noise and activity and spam of the public shell.

I don't keep all three on my main account, but my mule has all the pearls (although he only wears the first one.)

                      That's my nostalgia.

Yes, it was inspired by the Simpsons

I keep all my old gear.

I also have my winning test, an Elshimo Frog that my friend and I pass back and forth whenever we see eachother, and a 4 leaf clover. I also keep all my keys, just incase.

I still have my Honor Sword, and I tend to hold onto the rewards you get when opening
certain jobs, just in case I want to level them in the future. (ex. Sam great katana,
                          ranger necklace, beast whistle, etc.)

I still have af weapon, kite shield form pld quest, GK from sam quest, old linkshell, and a few usless lances that people have made for me. I keep those since they are never on the ah and I like to have things other people don't.
                            Thanks Kazuki.

My Justice Badge (How could I be an S.O.B. without it? -- Don't answer that!).

My Yinyang Lorgnette (after the story behind it, I couldn't throw it away.)
