NPC Quest completed...first fight and..

The friggin thing provokes, takes 5 hits and dies. Just awesome for spending about 2hrs questing for it, Im sure it woulda been less time had I not had to wait on some others. Needless to say, I'm rather irritated at this point. So, from what I'm understanding, I now have to wait 20hrs for the Signet to recycle so I can summon again? Heck, I followed the guide off of Somepage that gives a listing of mobs to fight at your lvl(46 WHM). And it listed a Tabar Beak. So I go to Para/Dia II, NPC provokes, I burn all my mana trying to heal, it dies, then I die. Reraise, /rest(newbie move), get agro from a Skink, die again. What friggin lvl mobs am I suppose to be killing to get this blasted thing lvld? /angry.

Tabar Beak, Axe Beak, Wrath Beak, whatever you call them, that family of monsters is ferocious. You're not the only one that has problems with them, they're just juiced on their own and treat everybody the same.

Also, your NPC starts out at level 30, so it might have been better to solo stuff around Kazham or right outside Jeuno.

Well, you should probably fight things that you know you can handle without the NPC. After you use it a few times you can change it's job to something else so it doesn't try to kill itself with provoke.

Yes, Im a 46 WHM fighting them, and I can solo them easy, but when I burned all my mana trying to keep my NPC alive, that pretty much left me open and vunerable, WHM's are NOT as weak as you may think. I know what I can handle and what I can't while farming, Blaze Spikes, Blink, Stoneskin, Haste and some debuffs are things that tend to make fights go easier.

Well instead of curing him/her, maybe you could have tried to steal hate back to protect them from dying. If you don't want your NPC to Provoke, then change it's fighting style to either Attacker or.. Magic (I forget the correct term).

From what I read, you can't do that until you increase the bond though, or is this info that was updated since then? I've read everything I can possibly find, from where to fight, what to fight, quest to increase bond, upgrading gear...and it all leads back to the main thing, increasing your bond w/your NPC in order to do other things w/it. And that's not something you can do(to my knowledge)off the bat =(.

You can increase your bond once per day just by talking to you npc at the rendevouz point. Do that for a few days untill you can change the fighting style. Or just fight weaker mobs. Once you can change the style off of tank it becomes much easier.

Your NPC starts off as a lvl 30 war set to tank mode. It isn't able to second guess your intentions, in tank mode it will try to tank. If you fight mobs way out of its level range of course it's going to die.

each day talk to you NPC at the redezvous point, and summon them and go beat up some easy monsters. You'll get your bond up with them really quick. At least enough to change their role. Then stick it on DD mode and you should still be able to tank.

The timer on the Signal Pearl is based on REAL time, just like your Empress Band and Warp Cudgels.

I think Tabar Beaks and maybe Skinks are about the only things around Jeuno that would present a real problem. I'd probably just stick with beastmen.

The NPC Bond you get from chatting at the Rendezvous Point is limited to one per RL day, which resets on Japanese midnight.
