There is a very simple rule in place, don't run other programs while you play this game. The rule does not state that it's ok to chat with friends on AIM, look up recipies or maps, or perform any of the other tasks a PC can perform. The rule is so simple, there is no debating it's message.

The very nature of a PC is why they prohibit you from running other app's while playing FFXI. You are very right if you state your PC is for multi-tasking, this is obvious. This is the very reason why they want you only playing FFXI on a PC. PC's can and do run multiple programs at once, these can include AIM or Firefox, or hack-bots, claim-bots, speed-bots etc. How do you not get this??? My TV can't run AIM, or hack-bots - thus turning on PiP, or switching to cable to watch The Family Guy isn't running a 3rd party application.

people get it just fine. what they dont get is why their computer becomes gimped because of a single game. being able to watch tv while playing a game(PiP or changing channels) is exactly the same as reading a forum or talking on msn while waiting, cuz guess what? your tv comes with those features. i dont see FF locking your tv to only one channel and disabling PiP

AGAIN (cause i've seen this stupid analogy like 12 times today) I can't install MrArgus onto my TV, therefore being able to change channels is not a concern. GET IT??

afaik you cant install anything onto your tv. you can however install things to your ps2. we get that much

SE does not care if you surf the net while you LFP... But they care if you break their TOS to do so. I'm really sorry you play on a PC for whatever reason and can't use your PC while you are in-game. That is your choice.

Should SE make a windower option for FFXI? Sure, if they can pull it off and allow legitimate use of this function while preventing illegal exploitation of this function. But they havn't, and probably are not.

everything can and will be exploited. best they can do is -not- implement the features and code it so its harder to manipulate

I don't believe for a second that they are even banning people for JUST running windower, but even if they are... BOO f'in HOO.

XBox 360 has all of those loaded features. HDTV support, enhanced graphics, voice chat, IM, and SE did NOTHING to stop that. It's like having a Windower in place. And seeing how it's Microsoft XBox 360, you can bet someone will find a way to put hacks into an XBox 360.

changeing the channle and useing windower to serf the net, is the same thing, what is you could not change your channle while palying FFXI on your TV? That would be retarded right? Well same thing with PCs, a PC is ment to do serveral things at once, so being limited to just one prgram is rather anoying, if it was not for my special setup (Windower crashes since I have to run in 1200x684) then I would be useing it.

yes, but Xbox users (I beleive, correct me if i'm wrong) can access their XboxLive WHILE in ffxi (windowed, basically)

Actualy, I would consider Hi-Def to be enhanced graphics because it reduices the jadged lines for on-screen objects and I personaly hate the fact that I have a 1280x1024 LCD monater and I would be forced to play at half of that if it werent for registery hacks. Now that I recently upgraded my motherboard and graphics cards I now have duel screen support and I expect to use the money that I spend on a second video card to emulate haveing 2 computers.

Also, the X360 has enhanced draw distance meaning that you could see Castle Zvahl in Xarcabard from farther away then you could with the PC version. It does not change the draw distance for the mobs on the X360 (as far as I have been told) and there is currently no way of doing that on the PC (as far as I can find). The only way to get graphics equal to the X360's is to run the windower with the DrawDistance plugin.

Yes, this is the main reason so many people use the windower. The computer is made to multi-task (hence the alt-tab that windows has) and any decent computer around today can run FFXI and other programs eaisly. Heck, back when I was playing Star Wars Galaxies and FFXI I was able to craft on both programs at the same time.

When I come back to FFXI next month I plan to set up my mineing ship in EvE-Online while I mine in FFXI now that I can keep track of 2 programs at the same time thanks to duel screen.

I have a 52' DLP TV as my moniter, I think that is enuff lol......before when I was useing windower, I was able to run FFXI and PSOBB at the same time full speed, it was fun :p

I use windower for 2 purposes, and thats to look up maps, surf the web when I'm bored etc and also to type in Japanese. I'm sorry but It's totally unfair that Japanese players can write to us english and we're there writing back in roomaji. It's unfair they can make their macros light up with stars, complex smilies and music notes. I'm not fluent in Japanese but I'm a a decent level of speaking. I tried playing the Japanese version before windower, and I'm sorry but I don't want to struggle to read CS to enjoy playing with my Japanese friends. And on hacking, I might have 'experimented' with it, but as in using the fishing bot, which I'm sorry...there is an endless amount of fish in the ocean...I am not getting any advantage in my fishing haul from any other person. The hack is just another fill in person, it's the same thing as if you show your little brother how to fish for you and go watch tv in another room. I hasve never camp hacked before, and I probably never will, but I think it's getting to a point that you will need to hack to get a claim on harder to get NM's. SE should focus on the RMT guys, they should set investigations and have their people 'buy gil' from these companies online and ban them. Sure those people will keep coming back, but eventually I'd be tired of making characters over and over again, and using them to level up too. They'll also make money off of it too, because they need to pay to make new characters. I mean have you ever gone to google and types in "buy gil"....right you get like a million and one sites...put your rear in gear SE O_O; and stop being babies, if people can hack into crazy federal government crap, there will always be someone to hack in a video game :3

There's no shades of cheating as far as S-E are concerned. Either you cheat or you don't. Fishing programs, speed hacks, claim bots... all fall under the same umbrella.

Seriously no company would be stupid enough to play two sides of the law like that. If they wanted additional income from rmt then they would do like sony and have official rmt that WOULDN'T make customers unhappy and cause them to leave in droves due to overcompetition.

Woot! Yesterday marked the 1 week mark of me not using any hacks. Wow, it's been tough. I actually died twice the other day because I couldn't use my flee tool to flee away. Oh well, It's worht not taking a chance to lose my account, and it's not like it's hard to get it back as a bard.
