Although, as stated, it would take *HARDLY ANY* effort for SE to add a window function to FFXI. It's not like they would have to stop chocobo raising.

Stated as old horse because here on this thread it is much older then wanting the chocobo breeding stuff. Then also that SE has not revisted or even visited windowing makes it's perspect old in the sense of who last made focus.

I find it intresting you target and pick apart the smaller more insignificant point then apposed to the mention of what's more beneficial. Should of targeted on providing evidence that the wanting window including PS2 and 360 users definatly can be a greater number will be served by doing the windowing.

Ok, let's go back to the "Cars are banned" example. Cars are windowers, as should be clear by now, since the debate was over windower, not windower plugins, so let's say the "plugins" would be a GPS system, a tempurature gauge, and a TV.

Ok, so let's assume they're illegal. the GPS system is giving you an advantage over other drivers because you know where you are, the temp. gauge is giving you an advantage because you'll know if your engine is overheating or not, and the TV is giving you an advantage since you can watch TV while driving.

The GPS system is abused to find someone's address you found on the internet, the temp. gauge is abused for a dangerous street race, and the TV causes a crash when you focus on it too much.

Problem is... current GPS mapping services only track your car's location on a map and doesn't inform you if the person is at home or not, everyone has a temperture guage in their car, and TVs are not allowed for the driving seat. Plus, no laws are against them.

Better to compare it to a cooler of beer in the passenger seat, favorite movie on the portable dvd player sitting on your dashboard, and a racing engine in your street car. It's all there, on-hand, waiting for you to use it. Many resist... some fail.

As for Windower... I don't see anybody saying it's evil and should be banished to the 7th level of Hell. What we don't like is what Windower makes possible with its plug-ins. It effects normal and fair gameplay, stuff many of us like and enjoy.

If Windower only did what it was initially designed to do, put FFXI into a window for easy access to your desktop, you wouldn't see this debate come up. However, people took the Windower and starting adding programs that gives others unfair gameplay.

I know in the ToS it says no 3rd party programs and yet SE have screenshot and video competitions but we cant use windower. That doesnt make sense somehow.

well i cant say im suprised it was bound to happen sooner or later, if this dont send a clear messege then things may get rough in the next couple of mounths.

i dont see why they didnt just add a windower type system when they made the game, there are those of us who love to go on msn and chat to friends while playing games.

Even in the US certain firearms are illegal to own. If you have one should you be arrested because you might kill someone with it? No, you should be charged because you broke the law.

Wow, I must have read 100 posts in the last couple hours about this, and all I have to say is this:

Quit with the analogies... they don't work. They're all hyperbole, plain and simple.

There is a very simple rule in place, don't run other programs while you play this game. The rule does not state that it's ok to chat with friends on AIM, look up recipies or maps, or perform any of the other tasks a PC can perform. The rule is so simple, there is no debating it's message.

The very nature of a PC is why they prohibit you from running other app's while playing FFXI. You are very right if you state your PC is for multi-tasking, this is obvious. This is the very reason why they want you only playing FFXI on a PC. PC's can and do run multiple programs at once, these can include AIM or Firefox, or hack-bots, claim-bots, speed-bots etc. How do you not get this??? My TV can't run AIM, or hack-bots - thus turning on PiP, or switching to cable to watch The Family Guy isn't running a 3rd party application.

AGAIN (cause i've seen this stupid analogy like 12 times today) I can't install MrArgus onto my TV, therefore being able to change channels is not a concern. GET IT??

SE does not care if you surf the net while you LFP... But they care if you break their TOS to do so. I'm really sorry you play on a PC for whatever reason and can't use your PC while you are in-game. That is your choice.

Should SE make a windower option for FFXI? Sure, if they can pull it off and allow legitimate use of this function while preventing illegal exploitation of this function. But they havn't, and probably are not.

I don't believe for a second that they are even banning people for JUST running windower, but even if they are... BOO f'in HOO.

If I see one more person talk about changing channels on a TV and comparing it to running Windower on a PC i'm gonna loose it.

By SE's perspective, it's illegal and breaking the law.

By the public's standards, it's commonplace and we don't use it to cheat at all, but do common things, such as surf the web, chat with friends, whatever.

I'll go as far as to say that the public make the government. Don't quote me on starting a politics discussion, but I am fully aware that the majority of people who play FF11 support windowing.

Moreover, the US is a democracy. If people want something that doesn't infringe on the well-being of the country, they take a popular vote and will more than likely get it. The same applies to ff11. If the majority of people who play want windowing in order to have something to do on the side, instead of playing the game, they deserve to have it, just as long as it doesn't infringe on the well-being of the game, which is why I don't support third party programs. Many people may want third-party programs, but they hurt

1. the economy
2.NM hunting

which is why they should be and stay illegal. However, windower does nothing of the such, and if by popular opinion it is supported, it should damn well be made legal.

The ToS covers, and can only cover FFXI and POL. Everything outside that, the OS you use, the applications running on it that do not interact with FFXI are not subject to the ToS.

We would like to take this time to remind our players that the use of any third-party tools to change or modify the game in any way is strictly prohibited in the PlayOnline environment. We will continue to take any necessary actions against those individuals that we have confirmed to have used such tools.

Explain to me how fraps, your anti-virus or anything that is not a tool or hack FOR FFXI is a 'tool to change or modify the game.' They do not fall under the dictates of the ToS.

Agreed, however, SE has only one thing in mind: to make profit.

If they appeased the masses and allowed them to do more with the computer, they would rake in more money compared to before. Something of which I don't understand is why they don't make it legal, even though they damn well know that many people use it and SE loses a chunk of their base customers every year due to windowing.

This goes with anything in an MMORPG. If they listen to the public's crys and roars, they should and will satisfy them with whatever change they request, thus making it a more profitable game and bringing in more profit.

Why doesn't SE just have like an ingame poll or have GM's ask ppl randomly if ppl would support having windowed function for FFXI along with mp3/video/web programs as options for the PS2 and 360 users? It's one thing i've noticed, simple stuff is overlooked, hell another simple option would just not using it, but then that'll make me go afk more often to play FFX all over again just for the CS ~.~;

Doesn't make sense why to not do this. If SE is looking into improving their game, they should provide a poll for many aspects of the game, including windowing.
